    Thanks for the thorough review! Like other viewers, I’ve had my eye on this knife for a while. Amazon has it listed for a decent price, so I’ll consider picking it up this spring for hikes and camping. I wish Gerber had this knife in a full straight edge version; I believe the Bear Grills knife offered a straight edge option. Great video!👍

    It’s not a bushcraft knife, it’s a survival knife and that ferro rod is not a primary rod. It is an interesting setup for whatever reason I’m tempted to buy even knowing I have better knives for the job.

    first thing i did after getting this knife was to attach the whistle to the fire rod. you can loop it through the horizontal belt loop if your really that worried about the rod falling out. you can also pull the whistle apart and add a longer lanyard as it is a simple bind connection if your worried about being able to use the whistle quickly. that way you can loop it around the sheath and just flip the Velcro and bring it up to your mouth. also a way to store a good length of paracord for emergencies or to use the spear attachment holes.

    Hi there.
    I have the same knife and I noticed the same problem with the ferro rod. I just tied it with elastic rope through its lanyard hole and with the bottom velcro strap.
    The knife is okay, but two biggest downsides are that the knife is too thick for food prep (but manageable) and hole package wit the sheat and all is just heavy.
    Good review nonetheless, thanks.

    It's not a bad beater knife TBH. Not sure that that I would trust my life to a Chinese made 7cr17mov steel blade though. For messing around at camp or a gift to a kid just getting introduced to knives it's great, but for those of us that can spend the bucks there are far better options out there. 7cr17mov is a very cheap steel and they heat treat it to make it quite soft so it's durable. It also means that you will be sharpening it every time you sneeze. If you got to have Gerber, I would recommend the Gerber Strongarm it's a solid knife, and the 420HC is strong and stainless.

    I have the original BG knife and I smack it around super often. I have yet to have an issue with it. I don't chop with it though. I cross-baton it. Far more effective than chopping and far safer because you're not swinging the knife around. I won't chop with any blade smaller than 10 inches

    how it is compare to Swiss+Tech Fixed Blade Hunting Knife,15-Inch Tactical ?

    • @IndianHemlock
      @IndianHemlock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never had my hands on the Swiss tech so I can’t say for sure, Swiss tech is definitely less expensive, and looks more like a combat style knive, now it is a lot longer and you would have to consider that as far as being able to handle a much longer knife and does weigh a little more.
      Swiss tech 10” blade 15”overall length
      14.5 oz.
      Gerber 4.8”blade 10” overall length
      11.02 oz.
      Both Made from Stainless Steel

    Why are all your ash trees dying off? 😰

    • @IndianHemlock
      @IndianHemlock  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi 👋🏻 our Ash trees get what they call the emerald ash borer 🪲 beetle. And they lay eggs in the crevices of the bark, and the larvae feed underneath the bark, and make tunnels through the Cambian layer, which interns kills off the food supply of the tree. We do have young ash trees that pop up then and a lot of suckers, and they can survive a while until the bark starts to get more mature, and then it starts all over again, thank you for watching and for the question. I appreciate it, take care😊👍🏼
