Our doxie was adopted from a Rescue Centre. His name was Spike and we had him for over ten years making him approximately 12 1/2 years old. His nick name was Bobo and he was the most loved pet in our family. Please make sure you read all of those snack ingredients. It is important never to over feed him and pick him up the right way. Never hold him upside down . Always support his hind legs and upper torso with your arms and hands. One thing everyone should know never ever let him jump up on a chair or chesterfield (sofa) or down from it. The first important rule to protect his/her back. He’s adorable congratulations on your owning the greatest breed in the world as far as our family is concerned!!!❣️🇨🇦

Toby looks like my dachshund Peanut with a LOT more dapple patches! Peanut is a two-toned (black and tan) miniature dachshund with a few dapple patches. He's 10 years old. And I find it amazing that your little dachshund puppy has the same name as my first dog Toby, a rat terrier mix. I hope you have many happy years ahead with your Toby. Stay safe and healthy.

I think this is so cute I also have a miniature Wienie that's black and brown and his name is Kody. How ironic 💕💕 i've had him since he was five months old I bottle-fed him and all he is now two years his birthday was last July #ImAProudPetParent lol 🐶

I just realized that this is a double dapple.
He's adorable, and it's good that he's healthy, as apparently double dapple dachshunds are prone to birth defects.
It is my understanding that to be considered double dapple there must be white on the dog. Toby's light spots are still gray so I don't believe he is a double. The pet shop also said only one of his parents was dapple so that would make make him just the standard dapple. You are correct that there are serious health risks with doubles.

TripleB519 White on a dapple definitely DOES NOT mean the dog is a double. I have a smooth black & tan silver dapple and he has a large white splash on his chest. That's because his mom was a red piebald and his dad a black & tan. The dapple gene was recessive. It can also be that you are seeing "white" as silver ticking. Best that you look at the parents when choosing a pup and examine the pedigree; also look at reviews from the breeder and search for someone who's been around a long time, is reliable, and will give you at least a one year health guarantee against congenital defects.
+Justin Cutter...don't buy from pet shops! They are supplied by puppy mills! No pet shop I know of in this country sells reliable private breeder pups! You may have been lucky with your baby, but the mother is likely in a dark wire cage somewhere suffering with another litter of poor pups.
prettygirlzful, Thank you for the information. I agree with you about pet shops. Thankfully I live in a very small community. The pet shop I got Toby at is very small and gets its dogs from local breeders in the community. I looked into them a lot before I made the purchase because I didn't want to support the puppy farming you speak of! Everyone really needs to do there research before buying- especially from a pet shop. Thanks!
Turbo Toby Hi! After I posted that I realize it must've sounded harsh, and I apologize. I know there are exceptions and Toby is obviously one of them. What a smart little boy!! "Sit" and "down" and celery sticks at that early age?!? How did you manage that? My five have combined maybe one brain cell between them that says "Food, but not if she asks us to do something first." Geeez.
