also Nightfall by Isaac Asimov. every 5000 yrs there's an eclipse of a star in a 3 star system; everything goes dark and society unravels cause it's the only time it's actually dark.
Always keep in mind, despite all the really challenging problems we face right now, we are in an Golden Age. Nations haven't thrown their citizens into mechanized butchery since WW2. There are still wars, squabbles, disputes, tensions, and combat. But they affect fewer and fewer people every year while more and more people are lifted out of extreme poverty, though it feels excruciatingly slow. MAD Doctrine and deterrence keep big nations from fighting because of escalation. The US Navy patrols sea lanes and help combat piracy, many countries live under a nuclear umbrella so they don't need to waste expensive resources, manpower, and money and continue to thrive. A larger percentage of the population has food security and fresh water, schools, and medicine than ever before. Just think how much further along we could be if we weren't still dealing with extreme poverty.
IDK if you've heard but that has been happening in Ukraine.
People always say it's bad out there and they never seen it this bad. I just laugh because this is the best time to be a human on this planet in all of history. Most humans have it made compared to back then. There is still work to be done yes, but this is a golden age
for the golden age you are living in, a great part of the world still is maintain in poverty. Enjoy your privilege at the cost of billions...

@@dr.benchcanister5277 what "privilege"? Do you know how hard we work to build and maintain what we've scratched out of the earth from nothing? Maybe those billions can drop their korans and make themselves better people.
One of the things that has always tripped me out is that there is only a hand full of people that are alive when the first nukes were detonated and in a few years there will be no one alive that was alive when they were first created. Imagine if for some reason the human race almost goes extinct and the knowledge of nukes is forgotten only for a few random survivors in the far future to stumble onto a nuclear silo and not know what it is
This is a reality that will probably occur if society collapses suddenly. We have literally paid for our destruction and the destruction of our grand children.
It's so incredibly easy to forget how wonderful and prosperous are the times that we're living in. Full of wonders. Full of comfort. Full of welfare. And instead of being grateful and enjoying it, we want more. Me too. You too. Every single one of us. Greed.
What will it cost? What did it cost?
Everything.
The planet will be fine. We, on the other hand, as a society, will collapse. And we deserve it. Sooner than you think.
Just imagine looking in the eye of someone who lived a thousand years ago.
Just imagine looking in the eye of 18-year-old Trevor or "Trev".

Well.. I mean we gotta keep fighting until every race, color, religious background, immigrants, gender etc etc can say the same? Not everyone is being ‘greedy’ - some are just fighting for their turn. Now the ultra rich? They need to be eaten

I feel this wouldnt be the end of humanity. since they knew the asteroid was coming I feel that they would have found out about the underground bunkers. Since most animals try to hide underground, I am pretty sure there would be tons of them. I am not saying millions of people would survive, but by that era, humans would have either cleared out the bunkers or accessed them before the asteroid impact
The bunkers are only for the elite
Even with bunkers, if a 'big bang" sized or kind of asteroid hit our planet, all would perish, bunkers would be cooked from outside to in, and it wouldn't take much at all depending on where the impact took place in comparison to said bunker(s). Bunkers are only life saving against nuclear bombs (unless struck directly or in close proximity, disease and most natural disasters, a gigantic asteroid is not one of them however.
@@LierinLindquist in this story the asteroid is only about as big as the one that killed the dinosaurs...and although killed off the dinosaurs, allowed animals that could burrow and small animals that could move and adapt to survive. If they were able to get to bunkers or even had underwater settlements they would live. Anything bigger and all life would die out. For example: If the asteroid hit the pacific but you had a bunker in the US or underwater in the Atlantic or somewhere near the poles, and it was self-sustaining, you would survive

Video summary: We will have bunkers for one mass extinction event but for some reason not another.
An asteroid that is much bigger than the one that hit over 65 million years ago would absolutely destroy all of humanity in due time. The one that hit Earth struck in Mexico and within 15 minutes, all of Mexico and USA was engulfed in flames. It took 15 minutes for the blast to reach and decimate an area as far as California. Many dinosaurs actually lived through the blast, but it was the after effects that destroyed their life. Their food source, the acid rain, the total darkness due to the Sun being blocked out, the extreme temperature changes, awful earthquakes, etc. Any creature bigger than a squirrel simply couldn't continue on. This event would make the Ice Age Event seem like nothing in comparison. Let's hope we develop a counter measure system by then.
@@Deadsea_1993 You have some good points but also u can't ignore the fact that we are geniuses compared to the dinosaurs and squirrels, we can already clone animals and in the future will be able to manipulate matter to form anything from anything and probably will be able to 3dprint full meals out of thin air. So surviving underground even though most of our planet wont will be achievable to us. Of course this is without speculating on what unforeseeable technologies we would have developed by then.

For all we know religious texts could be the same as legacy in this vid but we will never know.
A lot of that reminded me of Star Trek where after WW3, the world so irradiated and most of humanity was wiped out. Survivors basically were thrown back into a state of barbarism and a genocide began in order to “purify” the human genome.
It sounds like fiction but society has collapsed many times throughout our history. We’re long overdue for it. Whether it’s through war, plagues, or famine, or all 3. Someday there will be another dark age for humanity.
The hope is that it takes place in the year 40k in a Dark Age of Technology and we get to fight hot alien waifus, space dinosaurs, and giant green men!

This sounds some good sci fi. “The Three body problem”, is a good series. A woman who feels hated by mankind receives a message from an alien, warning earth not to respond due to other millions of hostile life forms. Of course she responds saying she doesn’t care and it gets wild from there.
Anyways, so what your talking about is probably the dark forest theory. It’s a extension of the Fermi paradox, which explains that the reason we don’t see aliens is because they hide, because any other species is a existential threat. You might already know of this theory, but if you don’t, you should watch kurzegasgt’s video on it

What’s cool about these scenarios is that earth will survive. No matter how bad we pollute or radiate the earth, we die and the earth simply returns to what it was before humans. Our only enemy is ourselves.
