I’m trying to figure out why tx goes to rx and rx goes to tx? I recently installed a gps on my quad and it lights up and the blue led flashes but it doesn’t work. I put tx to tx and rx to rx? Do you think I should switch them?
@@wethepeople420 TX of GPS module goes to RX of flight controller. RX of GPS module goes to TX of flight controller. If you don't have them set up this way then, yes, you should switch them
You should try the (Stan FPV 2604 1690kv motors) for a 5” long range. With a 6s 1300mah Lipo. On 51x48.0 tri blade props, I logged 14min flight time. I landed when the battery voltage got to 21v. I haven’t tried a LI-ON pack yet. It’ll probably be an epic flight time. Also when you run a 6s pack and want to freestyle it’s insane. So you lose nothing. The thinking with this build is high torque motors running on low throttle. And just a conservative cruising speed I’m about 45 mph.
Great video. My biggest problem is getting enough sats for a fix. I know you made another video about this. If VTX noise is the biggest culprit to interference with the GPS module I wonder why the manufacturers of these devices (the GPS mod) don't shield the lead wires? I also wish there was a better way of powering on the GPS without powering on the VTX. I know you showed a solution to that using a balance connector but having an additional connector on a micro is not optimal. Maybe something like using the 4.5v pad which powers on the Rx when USB is connected. If the GPS was also powered like this you could use a battery with a USB charge cable and power the quad up without plugging the battery in. Only problem then how do you know when you have a fix without being able to see in your OSD? I'm just thinking out loud here. Since LR on mini and micro quads is now a thing, I think the community needs to solve some of these problems so that this works reliably.
Hey Chris, thank you! I understand. Using a pad that powers up with USB is a great option. Unfortunately, not all FCs have that ability. Regarding "having an additional connector on a micro is not optimal," I agree. However, for me, the additional 2 grams of weight has been worth it knowing that after 2 minutes of power on GPS module with balance lead, my Micro's will have a good number of satellites fixed with GPS module. I've been using the Matek SAM M8Q along with the MatekSys Micro BEC, Pyrodrone 3 for 8.99 pyrodrone.com/products/matek-micro-bec-6-30v-to-5v-9v-adj OR 3 Pack on Amazon 13.49 amzn.to/3yjH1pm (affiliate link). This method may not work with other GPS modules as well as the Matek SAM M8Q. Others have said it doesn't play nice with BN220s. With the Matek SAM M8Q, a blue blinking LED means you have a 3D sat fix. This occurs for me when I power it using the balance lead with no other power on the quad. So, I know ahead of time when I have a fix before powering on rest of quad. now, after I get the fix using the power from balance lead and then power on rest of quad with XT-30, the "fix" gets interrupted for about 15 seconds or so then comes back quickly. On aq side note, I've also got a custom sound track setup on my TX16 to notify me audibly when I have enough sat's (in my case 5) for GPS rescue (this is for when entire quad is powered on with receiver also). Just wanted to share with you what has worked well for me
Gr8 TUT, question, coming from Inav, I setup BF rescue and all works fine except when I turn OFF my TX BF doesn't recognize FS even though throttle drops to 885 and rx set to no pulses. In Inav it works perfect, parachute turns red indicating FS. Any ideas? Thx
Only thing I can think of is at the time you turn TX off, GPS Rescue "Is Not Available" (an actual condition) for one reason or another (insufficient # of satellites-default min=5, "sanity checks," not past minimum distance for GPS Rescue to be actice-this is changeable in Betaflight, etc.). See more on GPS Rescue here github.com/betaflight/betaflight/wiki/GPS-rescue-mode
When you use a switch. To activate gps...does it matter which flight mode you are in when you come out of GPS rescue ...ie can you take back control in horizon mode ?
Sure👍 Just a thought, have you tried Acro Trainer mode? I obviously am not aware of your rationale for Horzon mode, however self-leveling modes to learn with tend to foom bad habits. You can use Acro-Trainer mode and limit the angle the quad is allowed to rotate on pitch and yaw while forming good habits and establishing better muscle memory. Just a thought
Hey Tmac My Flywoo Explorer is showing no activity with GPS and in Betaflight, on the GPS, It is showing a red box with the word false. Could you tell me what that mean? Thank you for all you do!
Sounds as if it may just not have acquired satellites yet. When you connect to Betaflight, make sure your GPS module is powered on (may need to connect LiPo while connected to Betaflight to power on GPS--with props OFF please). Make sure you set it up properly in Betaflight per this video, starting at time mark 6:34 (and use the available GPS Rescue Setup & Flowchart through the link in this video's description). If you have set everything up properly and you are still not getting any satellites, you may be getting too much interference from your quad's other electronic components. I've found the Matek Sam M8Q GPS module tends to work better win interference and gets faster satellite locks than the "no-brand" of Beitian kind. Also, with the Matek Sam M8Q, I'm able to use the "isolated power supply" process identified in this video: th-cam.com/video/k2bZmDdXCso/w-d-xo.html

Betaflight GPS Rescue should not be affected by which goggles you use, however, I do not own DJI goggles to confirm this. Its my understanding the DJI goggles do not have on screen display (OSD) so I'm not sure how you would be able to tell how many satellites you have acquired though without OSD.
@@TMacFPV exactly, i also think the same way. just wondering if i could just activate it by manually switch the programmed gps button whenever video signal lost/failsafe..
@@tenangskibackup Yes, I believe that would work fine as long as you have the required minimum number of satellites acquired per Betaflight (minimum is 5 and you have to set it to 5 in Betaflight for that, otherwise I believe the default minimum is 7). How will you know if you have the minimum number acquired though? If you do not, and you flip the programmed switch, it will not work

Hi TMac, setting up playing with GPS rescue. I notice in your video& in my betaflight the GPS Rescue switch doesnt go live like the other switches do. Is this normal & do you know why it does this? Cheers
Hey Doctor Drone! Thanks for bringing that up, I didn't realize it myself. You are correct, mine does the same as yours (it doesn't "light up" in Betaflight when I flip the switch). I do not know the exact rationale for that, however, I can theorize its because not all of the conditions have been met for it to go active (like minimum number of satellites have not been acquired when we're working on it inside the house connected to Betaflight). I would strongly recommend yo test it out on your quad in a controlled situation before you become accustomed to relying upon it (just so you have confidence in how it works with how you've set it up)
