  • I've been working on getting rescue mode to work the proper way for a few weeks now, and I finally got the settings to work the way that I expected! It's been such a pain to get it to work the way that I wanted, but now that it's there and in place, I have one extra fallback mode when I'm trying out super long range flights.

    The way I tested the failsafe is Land over 200m away and then turning off the remote. If it works the quad will take off and come back. If it stays it won’t work. Just in case you don’t want to crash your stuff 😉

      You land and keep it armed? Or disarm?

    • @KyleLi
      @KyleLi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Lmao this is a way smarter way, then I suppose if this works then you can test it in air to make doubly sure.

    • @blise518B
      @blise518B 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      keep it armed. You can turn off air mode and/or idle prop spin so it does not freak out on the ground. Betaflight does not detect if you are flying or on the ground so as long as it’s armed it thinks you are flying and starts the return to home if the remote is turned off.

    I always thought it was so strange that the GPS rescue mode was a big mystery with no definitive instructions, at least that I could find. Almost as if BetaFlight was found in a cave from a long lost civilization. Betaflight has developers, right? Why has this been a mystery for so long?

    Funny how there’s many ways to achieve the same result. I used crossfire Fs.pos to trigger rescue mode by setting the switches in armed and rescue position when setting FS.pos on crossfire. This bypasses the Betaflight failsafe protocol and goes directly to rescue. It seemed like there was less delay and reconnect time when testing by turning off the radio. I’ll try it your way on my next quad soon and see what the difference is. Thanks for sticking with it.

    Channel fallback values are done after a failsafe has already been detected. So when you set failsafe mode (stage 2, receiver signal loss) from drop to gps rescue there is no need to set the AUX channel to FS also.Your main problem was Crossfire not triggering stage 2 failsafe at all. There is also a "Set Home Point Once" option under GPS settings. If you activate this it will only set the GPS Home point the first time you arm, meaning you can disarm/arm during flight and not change the home point to something else.

  • @flyerelite5153
    @flyerelite5153 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That is a great idea to fly 200m away and land, stay armed and test gps rescue. I tested my GPS rescue by arming the quad (removed props) and putting it on the dash of my car while I drove 200m away with the controller and flipped the switch. The motors spooled up and in my fpv goggles I could see the arrow pointing to where I drove from indicating things should work. I then did this same thing to test turning off the controller. Same thing success. So this gave me the confidence to try the failsafe in real conditions and so it worked.

    One more thing about your settings: the altitude setting is a bit tricky as well. It goes the value that you've set *plus* the highest you were during the flight.
    That is so that if you have flown over something that's higher than your altitude setting it will go over it.

I had a feeling it was a crossfire issue since mine works fine on a RXSR and even a xm+ but on crossfire it only worked in rescue mode. Thank you so much will try this out tomorrow after work, weather permitting. I thought I was going to have to be quick enough to switch to rescue mode before I lost complete control, (not exactly what I was wanting), my panic mode is a little to slow.

    I think the "Channel Fallback Settings" take effect in Stage 1, not in Stage 2. So the quad doesn't set the aux 4 to 1800 after 0.2 seconds (in your case); it just sets it to 1800 instantly. It's annoying to have it set this way and you have microfailsafes on the drone because the gps rescue will kick in right away.
    If anyone knows something different, please answer :)

  • @robinfpv4858
    @robinfpv4858 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You still don't need it to set to return to home. If you have stage 2 set to GPS rescue, then it will GPS rescue. Previously it must have just been the crossfire sending a disarm signal that was the problem. Also, you can change all your GPS rescue parameters in the OSD now.

    Good job! Just watching this video gave me anxiety. I'll be referring back to this video for sure when I setup GPS in BF. Nice coat Btw, I've got the same one! How do you like the Pyro Patch?

    A very useful tipp. Set your homepoint to the location where the quad is going to power up. So if you disarm and arm again while flying, the home position is still at the point where you plugged in the battery. if you unplug and plug the battery back in, then there is going to be a new home position set.

    Note for RR:…don’t have failsafe as a switch. This for testing only, and may result in a false sense of security being that the test is in controlled conditions. Instead, being that we are more likely to lose video b4 rx, have gps rescue mode as a switch. In this way, if we lose video, trigger gps rescue. When vid is restored, resume control via stick command input.

  • @EitanTsur

    failsafe set isn't necessary; in addition, stage one functions are what you'd want to set for failsafes; set throttle to a level that allows it to climb, set flight mode to level stabilized mode instead of acro or whatever. This'll stop the quad from being in a real weird unexpected position or very aggressive angle, and then it'll be in a safe spot when stage 2 kicks in.

    I'm at 7:40 and recall seeing a green ring on the xfire module during the first test - radio off, xfire still connected to rx = no failsafe, just no control = no gps rth?

    The only thing that still has me puzzled is the channel settings for stage-1 failsafe...
    If I had the quad connected w/o power to the receiver it would say in BF "GPS rescue switch in an unsafe position"...
    So *if* you're using GPS rescue on a switch (in addition to failsafe) the value for stage 1 needs to be at the value where it would be activated on a switch. ... ?! ;D

    Hi Nurk
    i forgot to mention that point, but you can do either way , if you let Xfire in "FSPOS" you will have to program the Aux channel "gps rescue" in the correct position
    in your radio/RX this time, i don't remember the exact process you can do this way too.
    But the best way is to select like you did "CUT" and set in BF the failsafe gps rescue AUX chan with the good value 1800
    in your case.
    when i had this issue my Xfire was set correctly to "cut" but the gps Rescue aux chan in BF was set to hold...and my Kwad tumbled down each time i switched off my radio.
    By using only the gps rescue switch it worked like a charme !.
    it is not obvious , 1st you have to declare an AUX chan for gps rescue, and then you have to tell BF that you did so, it took me a while to understand what was the problem.
    Sry for my really basic English :)
    Nice Channel
    Happy Flying cheers !
    Phil

    Well I can provide some info how I set it up on Futaba T8j with Corona receiver. It seams that FC doesn't see rxloss when i turn off radio or maybe it can see but doesn't react properly. My setup when goes to failsafe, then receiver sets failsafe values and holds them and it seams that sbus protocol doesn't have any rxlost signaling.

  • @hoagietime1
    @hoagietime1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's the same thing for inav with csrf. The only time you want pos hold is with a fixed wing with no fc or with zohd ko -piolet with the rth switch enabled when you record the fs position
