Pws is slowing become my favorite ar15 manufacturers over the last couple years. I sell and build ar15’s, Ak,roller guns like mp5’s for a living and own a shop here in Naples, Fl and I can not stress to you how awesome these guns are. I have owned and sold Wilson combats,Daniels defense. Adams arms ,colts etc etc and of all them the only manufacture who I have not seen a gun come back for warranty work or have some kind of major issue is Primary Weapon Systems !!!! Love piston guns but u haven’t even shot a real piston gun until u shoot that long stroke piston action. They are the only company to tackle that operating system in the ar platform and they hit it out of the park when they came up with the idea. I have over 12,000 rounds thru my 5.56 sbr, 8,000+ rounds thru my 5.56 carbine in 16” and 6500+ rounds thru my newest 11.5 pistol that I’m in love with and run a surefire mini monster 212 5.56 can on that I got on sale for $425!!!!!!! Either way they can’t be beat for style, functionality and durability!!!! If u want a TRUE battle rifle that will NEVER let u down buy one or if u can’t afford one, buy a complete upper. I’ve had a couple of LWRC’s and although a really nice gun I didn’t think they were worth the cost over a quality DI gun. PWS really has my interest and I want to try one. 1. Because I am wrong handed and think I would like their Ambi controls. 2. The long stroke system intrigues me. 3 for $1800ish for a mod2 vs $2400 for the LWRC isn’t too much over the cost of a quality DI gun to see the benefits of the piston system.
Pws is the only piston AR I have loved. Lwrc is good but I much prefer the pws long stroke. Super happy with it. Still like my DI Noveseke better in general but for piston, pws is where it's at
300AAC is in the "things I used to believe" like too much light on a defensive handgun etc. I used to think 3OO was stupid. I could not fathom why anyone would want to spend the money on it. In some ways, if you want to shoot a piston driven .30 cal you should probably buy an AK and call it a day. Or at least that was my reasoning. It didn't drive me crazy until I bought an upper for too cheap to say no. It really is something a person needs to try to really appreciate. The most mysterious and intriguing things about it don't even begin to become apparent until you own one, realize the versatility of the cartridge and platform mix that is .300AAC in a AR platform in any of its multiple guises from pistol to rifle. Things like hand loading, making brass from 5.56 brass, versatility on powder, not to mention DIY hardcast bullets (for subsonic) make it a caliber fit for the apocalypse. Barrier blindness, velocity flexibility, platform flexibility...It may be the most flexible cartridge for the platform...but the jury isn't completely out on that for me. Another cartridge I dismissed is 6.5 grendel...
.300blk is a niche round, sure, but that niche happens to be more power with slower bullets from shorter barrels. Which just so happens to be what most people want for home defense/cqb. Short barrel so that the gun is still maneuverable with a short can on it so you don't go deaf after a defensive gun use...
I would say the Maxim Defense’s length of the buffer tube is one of the reasons for the super sonic rounds recoiling harder!!!! I would imagine a standard carbine length buffer tube and spring would help a lot when it comes to shooting supers through the gun!!!!
My original MK107 isn’t adjustable, no problems with it-ever. I also have an MK111 mod2m in 7.62x39, I prefer it over 300blk for supers because ammo is cheap and it really whoops butt doing 2200 FPS out of that barrel. Considering they’re now importing subsonic x39 I probably won’t grab a 300blk. Great informational vid, as always. Thank you Sir.
I pre-ordered the Maxim Defense PDX in 300bo, just got to my dealer! Can't wait to test it out and do a video on it and chrono it. Huge fan of 300bo on all fronts.
I have the Mk111 Mod1 which still has the adjustable gas piston system. I love it in 300BO and looking at getting a Mk111 in 223 Wylde pistol. I want to be able swap uppers between SBR and pistol.
Especially if you're shooting mainly subsonics out of the rifle, a dedicated 300 magazine is the way to go. You'll have zero feeding issues. 220 grains out of a 5.56 mag sometimes jams up especially when the mags topped off..If you only run supers and dont care about subs 5.56 mags work fine...205 grains seems to be the magic grain weight to get 300 running reliably out of a standard mag...Would make for an interesting video though.
300blk is a round not without its faults but it is definitley one of the best cartidges out there. Get a good denfensive load and go hog or deer hunting with it. The ballistic effectivness you get in exchange for the marginal increase in recoil i find to be worth it. The extra mass even in a 110 grail round definitley makes for a more effective round agains harder targets where pure velocity isnt getting the kob done. Just something to consider. Great video!
When I need a forward assist on the PWS to be extra quiet I just push it forward with my thumb on the bolt carrier group. It's not hot like a standard AR in that spot.
Stoner didn't incorporate the forward assist in his original design, but for whatever reason, the Army thought they knew better... So why do people feel that the Army is correct, vs Eugene Stoner? The forward assist is practically useless.
I built a fancy 300blk using a Q Honey Badger barrel assembly. It was super fancy, the best of everything. In the end, it wasn't all that quiet with subs, and as you said supers leave a lot to be desired. Given the experience, I'll just stick with a real rifle round. 300blk: been there, done that, got the t-shirt, wore out the t-shirt, and now I'm over it. Also, what the heck is PWS thinking with a 1/8 twist? Suppressor users be ware of baffle strikes with this one!
shrubjr893 I agree. I used a kak 6 and something length barrel, that couldn’t shoot sub Sonics without key holing with all types of ammo. That was a 1/7 I believe. I haven’t seen a 9 inch barrel have that issue however. Might be something with the powder being able to burn fully
The occasional failure to feed related to lube. When I lived in WA and TX I used Frog Lube which worked really well. Now I live in NV and do most of my shooting on dry lake beds and the moon dust caused the .300 blk it to run sluggish for the first three rounds. I have never had issues with 5.56. Suppressed or not.
The dust was tough on my Glock too. Light primer strikes. I’ve switched to Mil-Com 25 and haven had any issues yet. But we had a lot of rain in November and the dust is still down.
I was considering the mk 109 as my first 300 blackout upper. But after this video I’m considering a di upper. Is the recoil on the 109 really that bad with SuperSonics? Why no adjustable gas block?
Would you use a subsonic .300 Blackout as a primary self defense option? I have an older MK111 Mod 2 chambered in .300 Blackout no adjustable gas block. I have it paired with a Q Thunder Chicken, I love the sound or the reduced sound. It impressed me so much that I purchased a MK111 Mod 2 M and mated it to a PWS Mod 1 lower (I do miss the ambi controls sometimes). I have toyed with getting a MK109 as a secondary .300 Blackout.
My thought was to run supers for home defense for superior ballistics with a can so you still get some degree of sound attenuation. Sig makes a really gnarly 300 super specifically for SBRs.
Will Davies Thank you for the insight on the Sig Ammo, I have seen it and never taken the plunge been running the Hornady Black. I will have to pick up some and test it out...
Thanks Aaron. I enjoyed the informational video. It will be joining the arsenal for the very reasons you outlined. Looking forward to your future videos
Man you going to make me buy a pws. I agree with the handguard when I buy a handguard I always try to find the ones with the rails up front. That’s where I’m mounting most my stuff anyhow. Just got my first can and I really want to buy/build a 300blk. I’ve had a couple in the past but with no suppressor there was really no point if I want a slow 30 cal round I’ll go with the cheaper 7.62x39 like I did when I sold my 300 blackouts I bought a PSA ks47. But I think I’m about to get back into the 300blk and this looks like a nice one. If you are looking for a very good super sonic round the best i round is the 110gn Barnes tsx.
deon lee pws is the way to go if your running a can. Runs so smooth and clean. I just sold all my Daniel defenses and converted over all my AR’s to run pws uppers. I shoot suppressed basically all the time though.
How do you really feel about pistol braces? Do you think now there is no reason so SBR a rifle? I can’t 100% get on board with them. I mean I understand their advantages but I don’t think a brace can or does replace a stock.
You don't like the supersonic ballistics but prefer the subs? I want level IIIA penetration in any self defense weapon. To me the 300 excels with the sub-130gr loads out of a
Just got the Mk 111 mod 2, it’s incredible. However I was a bit concerned when I first got it fresh out of the box it kind of wobbled a little bit between the upper and lower. Is that common?
Yes. It can be mitigated a bit with the tension screw, but all of mine have had some(not much). They are forged receivers, so it is basically to be expected, but it really is a complete non issue, outside of triggering my ocd. In contrast, my billet ADM receivers have absolutely zero play, but also zero difference in performance.
SageDynamics Thank you for responding. I meant with this rifle in specific. My mk 111 isn’t bad at all. But I didn’t know if the shorter length if I would run in to issues

Something that works for me... I have 2 MCX uppers (5.56 and .300) I painted my .300 upper receiver green and put green gaffers tape on those mags.
I’m looking at getting a 300 blk mcx. How is yours running? Any issues with reliability?
The occasional failure to feed related to lube. When I lived in WA and TX I used Frog Lube which worked really well. I’ve seen what happens when someone shoot 300 through a 5.56 gun, but what happens when someone shoots 5.56 through a 300 gun?
I'd like to know how it runs with no suppressor. NO plans on suppressor but looking at the MK109 upper
What grip stop is being used on the MK 109? It looks like a "RailScales Anchor Bi Directional Vertical Grip - Aluminum - Black"
Take a peek under that rail. I’m pretty sure it’s still got the three position settings.
That’s only cause they still use the standard gas block for this. No reason to make a different one cause of cost
yes my mk109 had the three position setting, but it a bit difficult need to remove the rail to had a access to the adjustable switch.
Great gun, great channel.
I was considering the mk 109 as my first 300 blackout upper. But after this video I’m considering a di upper. Is the recoil on the 109 really that bad with SuperSonics? Why no adjustable gas block?

Robert Hutchinson I cant bring myself to buy a POF. I don’t want something I know is going to break.
I have seen several POF go to very high round counts. I own PWS because they weigh less, and recoil much less sharply.
@@SageDynamics oof where have you seen them fall apart? Most places i see online have a good opinion of them
@@TheCoolbreeze45 they makes sense given the different gas systems
@@SageDynamics I've literally never seen one run correctly.
What do you do with all of these ARs? Sell them or trade them in once the review is over? Or do you just have like 45 of them stacked somewhere?

I can use some of those for my build. 👍🏾
It’s now available in an adjustable system.
PWS is King. Do you like the Trash Panda or would you get the CGS Helios QD or Hyperion K instead?
So you can put an AR15 lower on the PWS upper
Is that an angled grip, a hand stop, or a vertical grip? I hope angled because it is perfect for a pistol
Per Railscale's website, its a VFG. Which has me wondering about the setup. Could be an SBR'd lower with a brace on it...for whatever reason.
