      It's the same argument that you can see in any bar in any corner of the world. Two guys, over invested in their own point of view to truly hear what the other person has to say.
      Of the two of them, Eric was more likely to surrender points to Chad but talking over him in the process....
      Personally, having watched this through twice now I am more convinced with Eric's arguments tbh. All you need is these 2 rounds... Job done..
      Chad is going to be test firing dozens of different hand loading combinations before he is happy..

      Subsonic rounds are getting to the point of affordability. You can pick up Sellier&Bellot subs for $11-12 for a box of 20. Still not 5.56 cheap, though worlds ahead of the early $1/round days and an option to consider before cutting down brass and investing in reloading gear.
      I started reloading specifically for suppressed blackout, and while time consuming it does open up an entirely new world of ammo selection.

    And for reloading…the .300 AAC blackout uses .308 bullets vs. .311 and thanks to the “Squirrel Daddy” case trim jig you can easily cut down .223/5.56 brass to be used in forming the .300 AAC brass (if you spend the $30 for the cheap assed Harbor Freight chop saw) and the .300 AAC really performs well with home-cast powder coated bullets…plus military surplus reloadable brass ammunition from Australian Defense Industries (ADI) loaded with 125 gr. Sierra MatchKing bullets for under .55 cents per round when they are on sale from Global Ordinance (it will be hard to find the bullets alone for that price after tax and shipping)…all in all…the .300 AAC blackout rocks in so many applications 👍👍👍

    Even with current administration-induced 7.62×39 supply issues and limited availability of prime 7.62×39 hunting cartridges (S&B 124gr SP are my favorite), I would STILL take the 7.62×39 over 300blk because it is still cheaper to purchase, easier to stock up on, and also fills the "life and liberty" niche. That's a hat-trick in my book. Besides, I simply love the ×39 cartridge for just about everything I use it for.

    Roll your own !!! If you have damaged .223/5.56 brass you can re-manufacture the brass for 300 blk. I did that to 1000 rounds that would have normally been unusable otherwise. Each has it's upside/downside. All I can say is I LOVE 300 BLK. I reload 147 gr and 220 gr for mine and they work great.

    • @bw83m94
      @bw83m94 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Stonehombre1
      Do the same myself. Apart from being into guns, I'm also a big recycling fanatic lol. 300 black gives me a fun/affordable subsonic option, while also giving me a new way to reuse brass that would otherwise go to waste. Let's be honest, apart from accuracy loading and unless you have a nice progressive setup, there's no reason to reload 5.56
      300 AAC got me into the reloading game, saves me TONS of money, and opened up a new world of firearms for me. Endless ammo selection, and I can now own more rare and obscure calibers and actually afford to shoot them.

    • @agrippa2k469
      @agrippa2k469 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Skip those 147gn bullet crap! Was never meant for 300 BLK. Speer 125gn bullets are often cheap and more accurate. I easily load them to 2250fps. They'll get you out there.

    I had little respect for 7.62x39 as a hunting round until I got my hands on a cz 527. I was amazed at 150 yd accuracy. 18.5 in barrel bolt action takes advantage of that 7.62x39.

    • @JMane3000
      @JMane3000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @bkb5668
      @bkb5668 ปีที่แล้ว

      @joebyden4654 This is not so, you don't gain like you would with a higher pressure round but you do gain 30 fps per inch of barrel. High pressure round gains are somewhere between 50-100 fps per inch of barrel.

    • @mymic208
      @mymic208 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Agreed, I see .300 blackout as something for AR people if they want a larger bore bullet using the same equipment. You can use the same mags, all you need to do is replace the barrel, and the bolt carrier. If someone wants a larger bore bullet as a new purchase then 7.62x39mm all the way. I also can see 300ba being used by special forces from a short barrel with a suppressor, and it maybe replacing PDW weapons in 9mm or 5.56mm as it does function so well from a short barrel.

    • @BandAid350z
      @BandAid350z 6 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      alan wilson since when does the bolt carrier need to be changed when converting from 5.56 to 300BLK? The only parts different from a 5.56/.223 AR to 300BLK is the barrel, muzzle device, and gas system (300BLK using a shorter system). Everything else is interchangeable.

      I could see 300 blackout being used as a replacement for an hk mp5sd setup. Compact, quiet and easy to put follow up shots down range (or more realistically down the hall). I dont see much of an advantage otherwise. Like if i had to clear land of pigs and had a budget, I would reach for 7.62x39mm almost everytime just on the merit of cost alone. If I knew that people were planning on breaking in my house and I wanted to protect my families hearing, I'm gonna swallow the cost and go for 300 blackout.

It would be Eric & Chad in a 10 minute video length where each of you take a position against each other regarding something firearm related such as 9mm vs 10mm or MP5 vs Kriss Vector. Then you guys basically argue it out to try to win over the viewers on why your choice is superior. This would be awesome for information and awesome entertainment!

      Wow... 45+P ha ha ha ! Bloody powerhouse ha ha ha! I'm sure everyone's favourite pig and deer killer is 45+P now after your recommendation. Gee that's about the same power as a 22 magnum......a well know big boar slayer for many years!? Or to put it another way, less than half that of a .223. Or even a 223 at 400 yards if you like. They all sound like pig slayers to me! I cull around 10,000 animals every year. And I've shot well over 1500 wild goats and numerous pigs with Subsonic rounds from 6.5 cal to 458 cal and I can tell you right now 30 cal subsonic even firing 230gr pills is piss weak. There is a far greater chance of wounding an animal with 30 sub than killing it outright. Will Terry I'm afraid it is you sir that is as you say... a fucking idiot......... and an inexperienced big mouth clown.

I believe Armalite should have developed a .308 Kurtz to replace the full size 7.62NATO. The same way the Germans did with the 7.92 Kurtz and the Soviet's did with the 7.62x39. And Chad then we would have surplus 300 Blk.

      Yup, 7.62x39 is awesome. I’m pretty sure 300 Blk is better in almost every way except overall capacity, but I like to shoot. I’ve got a decent amount of spare cash but 300 is just too pricey. I am at the point in life where 5.56 and 9mm cost is basically the same to me, (yes 9mm is definitely cheaper but fun for bang is 5.56) but not at the 300 Blk bank account yet.

    • @john-paulsilke893
      @john-paulsilke893 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are many safe loadings from sub-sonic to high velocity. 7.62x39mm can’t do this. Both do work well in short barrels but 300 Blk can work in extremely short barrel. Still I see your point and for my money 7.62x39mm is my goto all day long. I don’t own a 20ga shotgun because I own 12ga shotguns and so there’s a possibility for accidents or oversights. I also shoot .40 S&W instead of 9mm and 9mm major in the same guns with spring changes for the same reason even though for competition I need four guns instead of two for my events. 300Blk can be loaded and shot in my 5.56’s once. Not worth it to me even though there are distinct advantages in this caliber.

    I think one of the biggest pro's for the .300 sub rounds is home defense. Even non suppressed they are quiet enough to be relatively discreet and minimize hearing damage when fired inside a home. The lack of a visual signature is also beneficial as I would assume most home invader situations would take place at night and having a big fireball coming out the end of the barrel in the dark is almost certain to temporarily disorient your vision , complicating engagement and also would alert an armed invader as to position. Use in a home also begs the consideration of over penetration. Almost any supersonic rifle cartridge be it 5.56/.223, 7.62X39, .300 blackout are perfectly capable of going through the bad guy, my wall, across the street and thought my neighbors wall with still lethal amounts of energy, a sub is going to hit the bad guy and stop, even if I do miss and even if it manages to get out of the house it isn't going anywhere with enough energy to do anything. Every bullet has a lawyer attached to it. My last point is that the shorter barrels and configurations on a lot of .300 guns, especially sub guns lend them to be a little more user friendly in the close quarters home situations, you aren't trying to fumble around in a high stress situation with a 3-1/2 foot long gun through hallways and doors. Just my 2 cents.

    It's an apples to oranges comparison.
    7.62X39 is an all around great round. Everything it does WELL, it does better than the .300 Blackout. Which is most everything.
    However, the .300 Blackout is far superior for SBRs, pistol calibers, and subsonic/suppressed uses. Or if you have an AR-15 lower and want a quick, easy, cheap conversion to a .300 caliber round. Other than that, there's no reason to get one over the 7.62X39 IMHO.

      How is .300 Blackout better for SBR/suppressed use? Dedicated subsonic 7.62x39 has the exact same performance.

    • @Pondo1221
      @Pondo1221 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The .300 bullet is 10% heavier (200 grain for the 7.62 and 220 for the .300), the case size advantage that the 7.62 has is negated by the subsonic speed limit, there is .300 Blackout subsonic ammo at most gun shops, and the availability of .300 Blackout components for SBRs and pistols is much, much higher than for 7.62. Mostly because anyone can go to a gun show and buy a .300 Blackout upper for under $350 (or from Palmetto State for around $300) and slap it on an AR lower. Add a suppressor and you're set up with a damn fine home defense weapon that won't blow your ears out if you have to fire it indoors. Can't say that about 7.62 X 39.
      Maybe the French just wanted to utilize their on-hand AK mags? Or they were just being French and didn't want no damn inch caliber guns! LOL

      Nah, the latest 7.62x39 subsonic for the AK-15 and 6P68 are well above 220gr.

    Like you guys said, they both have their merits. If you want a good utilitarian cartridge 7.62x39 is great, if you want a shorter barrel that has the ability to run subs/supers back and forth and be suppressed well, .300BLK is for you. I think an 8" .300BLK AR pistol would be a wicked little truck gun personally. 7.62x39 would be the better "Go to War" cartridge though of course.

    One reason i want to go with 300 aac over 39 is because living in a lead free hunting ammo state the avalible bullets for hand loading makes a big difference for me

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brendan's life you can use the exact same bullets in the x39 that you use in the blackout. The x39 can use either .308 diameter bullets or .310
      Edit: And the x39 is nowhere near as finicky on powder/bullet choices as the 300BLK

    • @bw83m94
      @bw83m94 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just because it can use .308 doesn't mean you should. Wasn't a fair amount of Russian "accuracy" issues due to people using .308 bullets versus the proper .310/.311 pills?
      Nothing wrong with x39, I love mine and wouldn't trade it for the world. Cheap ammo by the boat load, but my .300 fills a niche I like as well. Can shoot suppressed without the issue of suppressing an AK, or the reliability issues of x39 ARs. Can switch between supers and subs without issue, and I've experienced no issues with powder and I run H110, a powder most have issues with.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BW83 M I run nothing but .308 in my x39 guns, including the ones with .310 bores, and have never had accuracy issues at all, in fact, quite the opposite, I've found the .308 to shoot some of the best groups from them. And, in my AR platform guns in x39, I also have the ability to run both supers and subs either with or without cans with zero issues in feeding or function, ever. I've not found a niche where the 300BLK does anything I can't do with the x39 either in bolt or semi, so I sold them to buy more reloading components for other rounds that serve more purpose.

    The 300BO offers two things while doing so from a compact AR-15 or similar (Rattler) package using standard AR mags.
    Ballistics of a flatter shooting 45 ACP with a subsonic 220gr bullet.
    Better performance than the AK in short barrels without the HUGE fire balls.

    7.62x39 every day. In my eyes its better cartridge than 5.56 nato . But then again, i got my training with Sako Rk62 and 7,62 KvKK 62 back in the day , so could be that its just what im used to. Would love to test 7.62x51 / nato round . I think it would have best sides from both rounds , 5.56 and 7.62x39 .
    I just do not see need for 300bo for anything.

    7.62x39mm wins out in cost, performance, recoil, availability, proven history, lots of rifle choices. 300BKO is nice and all but it seems to be a secondary caliber. All opposite of the 7.62x39 except for recoil and similar performance. I agree 100% that the 7.62x39 with all aspects considered is a great hunting round for medium game animals under 300 yards. Great youth round as well.

    QUESTION: TERMINAL BALLISTICs...
    Subsonic 300BLK for the tactical environment. 10.5 barrel, suppressed, PDW maybe. Maxim stock?
    MP5 killer? And swap to a supersonic mag when its time to go loud?
    Thoughts?
    Enquiring minds want to know.
    Ur $.02 cents ?

    I have both in AR15 style. I built a 762x39 upper because cheap ammo. If shtf you find you neighbor has 9mm, 223, 22, and 762. They won’t have 300b/o.
    However, 300b/o is better for suppression. Especially if you are doing an SBR.
    So I love them both for different reasons. If I had to pick 1 on and AR it would be 300 just due to reliability factors on AR platform specifically.

    I shot a 8 point white tail deer with a 300 blackout pistol at 300 yards with a 208 grain subsonic two years ago with a 10 1/2 inch barrel suppressed . The white tail dropped in its tracks did not walk a foot . I have shot 5 white tail deer so far with 300 blackout pistols and rifles . 300 and 8.6 are the advancement of ballistics. They're amazing for short barrel platforms. 4 years after this video was made, and 300AAC has gotten more and more popular thanks to the AR viability and the short barrels that it uses.
    7.62x39 isn't going away, it's a staple and anyone that runs the AK platform will always have plenty of em, but ballistics technology is advancing and the blackout cartridges making use of fast powders and short cartridges are amazing, though they are really for more of a bipod mammal than a large game hunting round. .308 and .338 are all we really need for taking large game, but it's fun to play around. Precision long range shooting is using 6mm and 6.5cr, so it's all advancing. When I was a kid 30-30, 30-06 and 7.62x51 was more common and now we have the blackout cartridges making big changes, especially that 8.6 with a 1:3 rotation. They blow stuff up.

    I built a 300 Black Out using a Anderson Arms Upper and Lower and a 14-1/2" Anderson arms Barrel 1 in 7 twist with a pistol length gas tube.
    The single most expensive item on this build was the bolt at around $164.
    Reloading Hornady 150 grain FMJ-BT using Lil gun it will shoot 5 in 1/2" at 100m ( I have a Vortex 6.5×20 setting on top of this rifle )
    All this said the single most enjoyable thing about this rifle is reloading the 300 Blackout.
    I have loaded everything from the 86 grain Lehigh defense Xtreme cavitator for the 30 caliber carbine and a 100 grain Lapua hollow point match bullet that has a very interesting cutting ring around the bullet making it act like a semi wadcutter.
    And on the heavy end a 245 grain Missouri River cast lead bullet and everything in between.
    This cartridge is a Reloaders dream.
    PS that 100g Lapua bullet you might look them up if you like shooting 30 carbine I believe they would work very well for home defense ( I would like to see these shot out of both a 300 Blackout and a 30 carbine into ballistics gel when you take a look at the bullet design you will understand what I am talking about )
    Got mine at Midway USA.
