The male lead is V, he is a member of BTS, an amazing singer. Both IU and V are actually actors, IU has acted in many dramas and movies. V has also acted in a drama and plays a character in the bts universe storyline. The two together are natural actors and are risk takers. This is one of best MV’s in long while. TH-cam is littered with reactors crying, I’ve not seen such an emotional reaction from them.
IU is a seasoned actress, she is really really good. While V only has done 1 drama, but he is a very talented actor, he should act more fr.
IU's name is pronounced as the individual letters: I-U. I mainly know her from her dramas, "My Mister" and "Hotel del Luna", and the movie "Dream". She's a great actress, so her incredible acting here came as no surprise.
V has acted in the drama "Hwarang" as well as BTS's MVs, some of which contain a fictional storyline that required acting chops and that he executed amazingly well.
They're good friends in real life, so it's no wonder they have great chemistry in this MV. There are two behind-the-scenes videos, one from her channel (IU TV) and one from his (BangtanTV). The director is an award-winning director.
They sound beautiful together too. They have sung a duet called "Ending Scene", a lovely song with her clear angelic voice and his deep smooth baritone.
She also acted in Broker (movie from 2022).

The Director of this music video - Um Tae-hwa - has a film that came out this past year that was South Korea’s entry for the Oscar’s (unfortunately it didn’t get a nomination)- “Concrete Utopia.” I saw it on Viki, but it may be available elsewhere? It was very good.

@@eunicelucia3106 right, but that wasn’t the same director. Concrete Utopia was directed by the same man who directed this music video - Um Tae-wa. Parasite was directed by Bong Joon-ho.
IU is very much beloved in Korea, both as a musician and an actress. When she acts, she is often credited under her birth name, Lee Ji-eun. Her filmography includes a key role in Broker, a 2022 film that was chosen to compete for the Palme d'Or. The male lead is V (real name Kim Taehyung). He had a role in a K-drama in 2016, but since then he's been very busy as a member of the globally famous pop group BTS. As others have said, he's currently doing his mandatory military service. He shot this video with IU a week before he began basic training. Many folks believe this video is a signal that he might want to do more acting after he finishes his service in 2025.
When they run around the corner and see the cubes, there is a look of exhaustion and despair on V’s face which is so nuanced and incredible. IU when she covered his eye at the end really broke my heart. The love and despair and bravery and tenderness of it!
Seriously, the emotions they approached with this video are so subtle and so rarely displayed in media... it's not fear, it's not defiance, it's not stoic resignation. They don't give in, but they also realise their destruction is inevitable, and they only have each other for a few seconds longer... it's despair, sorrow, grief and love, all conveyed in a few brief moments. I was really blown away by their performances!
Omgg thisss!!!! When i first watched it that was one thing that stood out the most out of his acting that and the last part where he attacks the cube but that part the most the look of exhaustion was soo subtle but so well done!!

The actor is V( real name Kim Taehyung) from the global super group BTS. Military service is mandatory in S.Korea and all the members of BTS are currently serving in the military. They are easily the biggest group on the planet and have had the most number one songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since the Beatles in 1960.
To get so invested in the characters in a five minute movie video shows the abilities of the actors. Amazing job.
IU is a legend in South Korea she writes most of her songs. This mv was her idea. She is also an amazing actress u should check out her film Broker it was nominated at Canes Film Festival. And her dramas like My Mister in your own time.

There are so many reaction videos to this MV but it’s interesting to read one where the reviewer doesn’t know the artists involved. IU is a singer and actress but V has only really had one acting role and that was 8 years ago. He is primarily a singer with BTS and a solo artist. IU is a very well known actor and singer and producer and has been a popular personality in Korea for 16 years or more. She has acted in K-dramas and movies. V, of BTS, has also acted in a K-drama and in the BTS music videos which require acting skills from all of them BTS members.
IU is a very unique singer and is known as a national treasure in South Korea.
She encountered financial difficulties in her family when she was a child, so she determined to become an "adult" who could support her own life earlier. Because she likes singing, she decided to be a singer. She hoped to connect the hearts between "I and YOU" through music with emotions, so she took the stage name "IU".
Originally, she wanted to be a traditional ballad singer when she debuted, but because too young, she did not gain much attention from the public in that time(when she is only 15).
Later, the entertainment company tried to package her as an idol singer and achieved great success (in the year she was 18). But when she became very popular with the public at the age of 21 with her beautiful appearance and cheerful personality, she decided to regain her original ambition and embark on a completely different path from ordinary Kpop......She remake songs more than 20-years-old, and re-introduced the popular culture of the previous generation to the younger generation, and received a very good response from public.
From then on, Koreans no longer viewed her as an idol with only a sweet image, but instead viewed her with respect as a real "artist of music" who contributed to popular culture.

The Director of the MV is the same director of the movie Concrete Utopia. IU has worked with this director before on films.

As other commentators have mentioned, the actor in this video, V from BTS is currently serving his mandatory military service. He was selected as one of only 6 military trainees out of 20,000 as an elite trainee and accepted into South Korea’s super elite counter terrorism unit. Not only is he an amazing singer and actor but currently he’s also a for real, for real soldier. He just excels at whatever he does.
IU, is a renowned Korean dramatic actress who always delivers powerful performances both when she acts or sings. V of BTS is also a mega talented singer and actor and in this collaboration, they lifted us up and broke our hearts w this MV 💜

Both IU and V of BTS are extremely talented people in singing and acting so it never crossed my mind that it could be seen as brave to produce a MV like this. All of IU’s acting project she chooses rare and challenging roles that she’s never done, all to improve and add to her arsenal. She doesnt like generic stuff. Even in music she explores and does all genres, she learns all vocal techniques and writes lyrics like shes Shakespeare. The fact she is known as the #1 hiphop star in Korea cause of her genius witty lyrics like Eminem. Shes such a Queen.❤

They showed them discussing how she chose a make lead and they couldn’t figure out who could pull off this roll (she could get most A list actors likely) but she thought of V and asked him. He said it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up and the BTS fans have been heavily supporting this. His acting has always been special he just hasn’t had time to do more. So it’s very special to see theses two especially together although he filmed this one week before starting his mandatory 18 month military service. His last gift to fans.
Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. So powerful how both tried to protect the other and both clung to each other until the very end. It was a potent touch to have their clothes land together on the pile. This last point yet again showing that while they physically lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

There have been several notable 'mini-movie' K-pop music videos this past year. 'Haegeum' by Agust D, 'Cool With You' (A and B videos) by Newjeans, 'Top Or Cliff' by Kim Sejeong. You should check them out just to admire their ambition.
I really enjoyed your reaction, I could see you were genuinely getting into it... I was so impressed with both their performances, especially since they're both far more known as singers than actors. IU has acted in some TV dramas before, and while Taehyung has only had one small TV role so far, he's acted in a lot of music videos as part of his group, BTS. As far as I know he never trained in acting, only learned 'on the job' as it were.
BTS actually has an entire series of music videos with an interconnected storyline which I highly recommend you reacting to. It starts with 'I Need U (original ver.)' followed by a featurette drama called 'BTS 화양연화 on stage: prologue'. They were a lot younger when they made those and only one of them had any acting experience, but I was really impressed by their performances, and got so drawn into the story!
There's a whole series of music videos released over several years which gradually reveal a storyline... they also have a series of dramatic short films leading up to their album 'Wings', which was a concept album inspired by the novel 'Demian' by Herman Hesse, but woven into the pre-existing storyline they were building.
Honestly it's some of the most daring, interesting, affecting work I've seen from any pop artist in the last decade, I really recommend you get into their stuff!
I’m never more impressed by art than when the piece is hugely ambitious, and then it completely, 100% delivers on what it has attempted to do. As you say, nobody needs to try to do something like this. It takes enormous confidence in yourself and the team around you to try it. Extraordinary.

I don't know a lot about IU, except what I've learned in recent days. I recommend "[IU TV] I caught the flu that day" to see behind the scenes of the mv shoot and "IU 'Love wins all' Recording Behind" for the song recording session. She's a brave person, tough, resilient, and disarmingly funny. ("When you upload this video, please make the title 'IU's last recording.')
I have seen V, on the other hand, through behind the scenes videos back to 2013. He is a natural-born actor, to the point that his own bandmates would be fooled. He and his friend Jimin naturally fall into play-acting when they are bored on set, creating a scenario of their own that usually involves characters bickering. Several times he has launched into the most believable expressions of pain and sorrow, the fandom became concerned. On the other hand, he is very expressive of his actual emotional state, too. So, although he hasn't done much formal acting, he's been "acting" and gauging his effect on his audience for years. [And honing his comic timing...] Probably since young childhood. She has a lot of experience in acting, and is the top selling female singer in S Korea. V-Kim TaeYoung, is an outstanding singer in group BTS. He has actes in a drama before, and is a natural singer, dancer, actor, and all around charming guy. He is known for his handsome face, and quirky sweet personality. He wanted to finish this before his mandatory enlistment, and the MV came out after he had already started his time in the Korean Special forces.

I also recommend IUs musical video, 8. It's a beautiful song with a deep meaning regarding losing her friends. She has a moment at the end where she goes through 5 different emotions just staring at the camera and not saying anything.
I appreciate your admiration and superb comments on the acting song and the whole mv. It got you almost you said. Love that. It gets me crying everytime i watch it bcoz if the superb acting and song lyrics.and the singer's voice too.
IU also has an upcoming Netflix kdrama next year which is the highest budget of the production team..she's the most anticipated Korean actress and Korean musician this year according to the critics (she hasn't released music for about 2 years and her last kdrama was 6 years ago)..she is very prone to getting love calls by the kdrama industry and very famous movie directors couldn't hide their sadness when IU would back out or not accept a lead role from them (ex: the webtoon Money Game as a kdrama and the new Netflix drama this year titled Queen of Tears which came from one of the top directors who keep on releasing viral high rated dramas)

IU (pronounced as Aiyu) is also an Actress..actually from the start what gained her international fame was because of her acting skills..she used to be criticized because her past projects where her skills look weak and the plot weren't interesting enough (she is also very young at that time) but in 2018 she was casted in a drama titled My Mister and that attracted a lot of Koreans because of how immaculate she showcased the emotions so well (one of the top 10 highest rated kdramas in SK)..In 2019 she garnered worldwide fame for the drama Hotel Del Luna due to its iconic fashion sense and she exerts a lot of power.. although back in 2016 her drama Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart becomes one of the top painful traumas for kdrama fans and it would go viral despite being a decade yo..IU made her debut as a movie actress in 2022 with the title Broker and she became the first kpop idol actress to attend the Cannes Film Festival..a lot of Critics who only knew her from this movie was rooting for her to win Best Actress and maybe getting a nomination for the Oscars but when the results came out..a lot of them couldn't hide their disappointment though still she's considered as the main event.

Another director noted that, when she covered his "good eye", his other eye position went neutral and he was really impressed with it. I couldn't help but be impressed as well. They were both amazing in this.

This song and video absolutely broke my heart. The guy on the video is V, a member of BTS, and now he's serving for the military and to know that he filmed this so we could watch it while he was away so we didn't miss him so much. And the girl is indeed the singer, she has one of the sweetest voices I've heard and amazing control as well. Her face is what stood out to me the most, she truly looks terrified in this video.

I was teary eyed from the beginning, but when she covered his only eye with sight, I lost it. He tried to protect her and she protected him from seeing the end. I’m in my 60s. I don’t think I’ve ever been this moved by a music video.

IU has been in multiple kdramas and even worked with the legendary Song Kang-Ho (actor from Parasite) in the movie Broker which featured at the Cannes Film Festival. She's definitely an amazing actress if she can work alongside someone like Song Kang-Ho and still stand out.
IU is the only one who awarded on "song of the year", "singer of the year", "best lyricist" , "best composer", and "best album producer" all in Korea. Ranked fifth in the list of 20 "Best Singers in our Era" selected by South Korea's largest music critic "IZM", she is the only young person under the age of 45 on the list. Besides of this, she is also the only one female singer from eastern world in Rolling Stone's list of 200 great singers.
IU is not just a singer in the pop music industry, as a famous lyricist(or poet maybe), sometimes she actually crosses over into the field of art songs.

And, she has nominated twice in Best Actress of Korea's Baesang TV award("My Mister"(2018), "Hotel del Luna"(2019)), also attended Cannes Films Fastival of 2022 with the film "Broker", was the most powerful candidate for Best Actress that year.
If you would notice..IU is actually deaf in this music video as you can see her doing sign languages (in real life IU is also diagnosed with a rare hearing impairment condition) and as for V the guy..he is partially blind that's why in the end IU only covered one eye that's not blind so he couldn't witness the tragedy that will happen..the cube running after them represents the marginalized..when they looked through the lenses of the camera you can see that they're both in a perfect condition and aren't hurt.. basically just recreating those memories.
First time catching one of your reaction videos. Loved it The female is IU (as in I You), she is a Singer, Actor (many Kdramas), Songwriter, and Producer. The Male is V (Kim Taehyung) of the Boy Group BTS (Internationally Famous Group), he is a Singer, Songwriter, Actor (one Kdrama in 2016). He also has Solo songs. They filmed this video the last week before V had go into Mandatory Military service. Yes, this is one of the best MVs I have seen. Their chemistry together is amazing.

Here is some extra info about the music video... Director Um Tae Hwa released a guide explaining the MV and gave 4 Key points.
First, the "cube" signified the discrimination and oppression that are prevalent in the daily lives of the main characters.
Second, the "camcorder" represents the "lens of love," an important "device" that allows us to look at the beautiful things in the world beyond the internal or external appearance of the characters.
Third, IU and BTS V became the main characters in a "survival story of a dystopian worldview of someone who cannot speak and sees the world only through his left eye." Despite the difficulty, feeling hurt and exhausted, they relied on each other despite "cube" and tried to overcome it in the end.
Fourth and last, the "wedding dress and tuxedo" symbolize the "fruit of love." At the end where they are seen rising in the air, it depicts that they are finally "free to fly away from all kinds of oppression and pressure."

I love this mv and I’m watching reviews of it so I can maybe stop crying someday. IU has been a professional soloist and actress for 16 years. Tae, the male lead, is looking for dramatic projects but doesn’t have as much experience. He’s willing to get ugly, so he shows promise lol.
