With their "Don't Call Me" comeback, SHINee (pronounced Shiny -- as in shiny diamonds or shiny stars -- their name has a double ee to show just how brilliant they shine) are just doing what we have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Nothing you hear from them will ever be like anything you have ever seen or heard before. They raise the bar even higher with every comeback. And that's what makes them SHINee. :D With every new song release, SHINee are expected to come out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. And "Don't Call Me" is a perfect example of that.
What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc.
SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee where designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee.
The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in.
You just discovered why SHINee still hold one of the top spots after more than 13 years in the industry. If you are impressed now, just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 13 full-length albums (7 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 13+ years and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances.
SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and, yet, they are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than many members of groups who came after them, such as EXO and BTS, etc. which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans.
When SHINee debuted in 2008, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14, so now they are all in their late 20s and early 30s. (Onew turned 31 last December.) *international ages. SHINee are some of the most well respected artists in the industry.
Onew (Pronounced Oh-New, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one with the hoodie -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique and best voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch, etc.
Key -- the one with the feather headpiece -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. SHINee are known for setting trends and never being afraid to experiment, so Key is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. He is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. He is also SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker.
Minho -- the one with the red hair -- is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is a top actor and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies. He is also known as a top athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out just because he likes to work out, but he is also crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field and he pretty much wins every time. Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and his need to always win.
And, as you have discovered, Taemin -- the one with the white bandanna -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry, and that's not just by fans but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. He is also one of the most popular solo artists in the industry and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances.
Although Jonghyun wasn't in the MV -- because he passed away 3 years ago -- in order to get to know SHINee, you have to get to know him as well. He is known as one of the best vocalist in Kpop who was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists, such as EXO's "Playboy" and songs for Taemin, IU and Lee HI, etc. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. SM knew that if Jonghyun was involved in any way that the song would be a hit. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for this songwriting and composing skills. As the main vocalist, Jonghyun is the reason why Taemin is the amazing singer and performer that he is today. Jonghyun taught Taemin everything he knows and you can feel Jonghyun's influence everytime Taemin sings, especially when he's performing with SHINee.
SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Most fans (SHINee World or Shawol for short) will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop".
SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. They are known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. SHINee always sings live. The ONLY thing they are not good at is lip syncing so they avoid it at all costs, so when you hear SHINee singing 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. Yes, over the years they have become better at lip syncing then they used to be, but now they have gained the reputation as the group that always sings live, so unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to be able to sing live and always sound flawless while performing extremely complex choreography for more than 3 hours straight. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach.

Hi ladies, I’m glad you’re expanding your kpop journey and including Shinee. They are an awesome group with good music. I’m not a “Shawol” but still a fan since Sherlock came out.This is one group I couldn’t pick a bias. I just love them all, but I do lean towards Onew when he sings, but then I love Taemins personality and dancing, but I also love Keys savage side, but then there’s Minho I really like just looking at him, and I miss Jonghyuns smile.i swear this the one group that’s hard to pick a bias.

Of course I know everyone will interpret this in their own way and as you know or find out they are UNMATCHED OG PRINCES of VOCAL HARMONIZATION, DANCING and POWERFUL PRESENCE is out of this world LEGENDARY. *I don’t yet have the full meaning which i’m working on it but 👀🙀 OMG killing us on the spot as Minho comes out with his flaming charisma Lol and opening up along with straight English KEY rockin’ a feather hat on top of them bringing SHINeeifed Hip hop style choreography along with giving me apocalyptic milita vibes with rustic R&B EDM tempo that only SHINee can pull off including the dramatic pause which leads into SHINee’s signature dance break. HONESTLY this song speaks for itself talking about all the fake love going around from Toxic obsessiveness of SASAENGS and ANTIs which SHINee saying how sick they are of it; toward the end they start saying how they going to save their love for their true fans 🥰* Don’t even get me started on their outfits ICONIC, hairstyles/colors, choreography and scene changes so much representation of their older albums. Even though you may find other interpretations the bottom line is THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT TOXIC SASAENGS AND ANTIs that constantly hounding their phones & tormenting them by spreading false news throughout their career since debut which they had enough of it (they are mentally & physically stronger now). This song isn’t about one person; as long as i’ve known them since day one they’ve never been in any romantic relationship with anyone because if they had such relationships fans would be all over it non-stop posting like crazy everywhere and ANTIs would eat it up using it against them along with corrupt media.* During their comeback showcase when they were giving spoilers many fans thought the track was going to be "Spam Call" but it was actually "Dont Call Me" and the hilarious thing was they were literally giving their number to fans LOL the deeper I think about it such a genius way to expose fake fans thinking how upset they were about it. During their reaction they talked about allot missed things that I don’t fully remember but they mentioned how disappointed they were of the floor being so slippery which some of us didnt notice on top of teasing Key about his feather hat and Minho’s Astro Boy hairstyle along with some of them felt weak in parts of the choreography. The most recent release was their japanese MV "SuperStar" which couldnt get much promotions and a live because TAEMIN was already in the military.
I don’t know much about Shinee but one time I was listening to iTunes or Spotify and out of nowhere this song started playing and the singers voice was so beautiful and when I saw the name I looked him up and it was Jonghyun and made me sad reading about him. He has such a beautiful voice omg.

For information you Key is one of the fashion directors in sm entertainment since 2015 so the clothes worn by shinee from 2015 are key's own design for each member

SHINee is another talented fantastic group I follow and support under BTS. I definitely love some of their music and although I am not too familiar with all the members of the group but Taemin is currently my bias in this team cuz I love his performances. Because Taemin is also a member of SuperM, I think SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV and Fake Reality teaser is SM Entertainment's way of drawing SHINee into the SM Universe and fully connecting SHINee to SuperM's/EXO's storyline. Hence, Minho's red hair and the red room with the chairs hanging from the ceiling. I think this might be connected in someway to the Red Force and EXO's/SuperM's storyline.
As with everything that SM does, it's been designed to all connect. All of SM's groups' concepts and MV storylines connect together and it's all part of one giant Universe and story that started in 2012 with EXO's debut.
To understand how all of SM's groups are connected, you first need to keep in mind that it all began with EXO's origin story. From day one, EXO's concept has been that they are aliens from Planet Exo who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are believed to be caused by the Red Force. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda -- corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world, such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc.
And SuperM is the Kpop industry's very first supergroup which debuted in October 2019 and their concept and storyline is centered around the fact that they are Avengers-like superheros, so SuperM is the group that pretty much connects everything together. As part of EXO's story, Baekhyun and Kai -- who are members of EXO -- have recruited members from SM Entertainment's other male Kpop groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT and Ten and Lucas from WayV -- and formed SuperM, to help them battle the Red Force.
So, because of this all of SM's groups have storylines that connect. For example, I see connections between EXO, SuperM, aespa and SHINee with the fact that we see SuperM riding on a subway train in their "100" MV and we see aespa in the subway in their debut "Black Mamba" MV, and now we see SHINee also in a train station in "Don't Call Me." And most recently, we saw Baekhyun from EXO/SuperM on an old train in his most recent solo "Bambi" MV. We even see Kai from EXO/SuperM on train tracks and people on a subway train platform in his "Film: Kai" solo debut teaser video during his "Amnesia" section of the video and as it transitions to "Mmmh." We even see Key from SHINee in a subway train in is solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV, in 2018. And if we go back even further, you see EXO on train tracks in their "Love Me Right" MV and EXO-CBX (which Baekhyun is also a member of) on train tracks in their "Horololo" MV, etc. Which I think is all connected in someway.
The train station/subway platform in "Don't Call Me" also is given a very futuristic EXO-like feel with the view of space and the planets in the sky when you see SHINee dancing on the train platform.
I also think that the scene with Key in the red outfit standing on the phone booth submerged in water in the "Don't Call Me" MV has something to do with the Red Force as well. In that scene we also see Key dressed in his black outfit with the feather headpiece standing in front of the image of himself, which looks as though this could be showing Key in alternate realities -- or a "fake reality."
Then it looks as though the members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV when the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping."
The members of SuperM are supposed to be coming together to help EXO fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from taking over the world, etc. As "The Avengers," SuperM is taking the "best" members from each of SM's groups and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight.
So, if you follow EXO's storyline, in EXO's "Obsession" MV we learn that the good guys are the members in the all black outfits, and in "Jopping" we see SuperM's "Avengers uniform" is similar all black outfits. So in the scene in "Don't Call Me," when we see SHINee all together in those black outfits, it looks as though they might be preparing to join in the fight.
And because of this, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines -- and probably even now their 4th gen groups with the introduction of aespa last year -- are being designed to connect stories and plots.
Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connections between the groups. And that includes SuperM, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa, and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second gen, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen.
That is why I think that even though SHINee are part of the second generation, that SM is now working on bringing them into the storyline. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. For example, some have pointed to the fact that NingNing's butterfly in aespa's concept from 2020 could be connected to the butterfly in EXO's debut "Mama" MV from 2012, and some have even made compelling arguments that it could even be connected to SHINee's butterfly in their "Ring Ding Dong" MV from 2009. Or the blue roses we see in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV from 2016 may be connected to EXO's flower/blue rose concept, etc. Now I'm not completely convinced that SM would reach back that far, but it makes you question and consider things. :D I mean we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's recent "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., who debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his most recent solo MV remake of H.O.T's song "Free to Fly." So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at bringing everyone into the storyline, including their older groups and artists.
