- The world and their dog are now sideloading applications not meant for the Oculus Go onto their device. You want to play Steam games on there? Go for it. Want to be able to download Netflix content? It's possible! This isn't a tutorial on how to do sideloading, but it is 3 tips I think will make your life easier if you give it a go.

I was unsure about side loading apps on Oculus Go, and was a reason I was holding off buying the device. Thanks to your YT video and to you for taking the time to make it, I am now more sold on the idea.
No problem John, I hope you love it. 😁👍
Thanks for the shoutout and the link mate. Keep up the good work RaMarcus []-)
No worries mate, we're in this together and the more people we can get engaged and excited about VR the better for us both. Love your work. 😉👍
Same process for Oculus quest?
Yeah, near identical. 👍
Had my Oculus Go a couple of weeks now and it never fails to amaze me. Loving the fact that I can now watch my 3D content on a huge!!! screen in an eye popping VR cinema. How awesome is that! Thanks for all the hard work Marcus, it was your reviews that gave me the confidence to purchase.
Great to know I had an impact and a positive one at that. Enjoy it mate and stay tuned for more content. 😎👍
RaMarcus I'm currently working out the sideload goodness. Kodi seems like such a good idea on my Go. Wink wink...
Ha yeah it's a "useful" program for sure.
OK I'm almost there! downloaded Kodi but its a zip file and when unzipped there's no apk file?...freaky.
Got it sorted...I had to download to my mobile and drag and drop to my PC. Simple!
Thanks for those tips Marcus!
😎👍
Thanks for the adbLink suggestion. Nice little app. I'm comfortable using the command prompt, but this is easier to explain when I'm assisting others on how to side load. 👍
No worries and agree, I'm all about making life easier. 😉
Awesome guide! I saw the VRO video first, but this adb tool is so much faster. Thanks!
No worries NightSpyder, glad you found it useful.
Love the fact you directed to another good oculus go TH-cam:). Shows the community is close:). Also saves you some time doing all that editing
Yeah, I couldn't have done it any better and you're right, I see us as a community, working together to get people excited about VR.
RaMarcus well I am a Vive owner also and then mobility and easy of use of the GO is priceless, apart from playing Sideloaded Minecraft on it as 2 hours max is never enough when playing multiplayer with the wife and kids:(
It is easier to show people the VR capability at home without them being strapped to an expensive machine attached by an expensive cable wearing a delicate and expensive headset and then watch them slash and jab around your expensive TV with controllers that cost over £100 each! Needless to say I get nervous lol
I agree there, I have a Rift as well and it makes me nervous when my kids have a go, tethered to my £1400 laptop!
You can play the Go with a USB lead plugged in to charge it at the same time. If its full battery at the time you start playing then it doesn't charge so hard and get much warmer. Just buy a super long lead (next on my shopping list for sure).
@@RaMarcus I actually had seen the other video you referenced since I need all the help downloading and installing apks I can get. There's sometimes some little detail left out in a presentation that someone else might fill in, like the headset has to be connected to see "more settings" on the phone ( but that wasn't one of your videos...). Thanks for all the hard work!
But how do you get the apps sideloaded from your phone? It looks like this demo only shows you using apps downloaed to a pc, no? I'm trying to load rabbit onto my go.
This video will explain what you need for other apps, beyond Minecraft th-cam.com/video/2I4PedZvu-Q/w-d-xo.html
If you after sideload a apk have trouble you Can factory reset Hold volume - and power together
About sideloading, alot of people are doing it, I don't exactly understand the use. Does it mean you can install any apk like you would on your android tablet or Ipad? If so, will all games I play on the ipad work on the oculus go? thanks for your help
adblink makes thing really easy! works great. once again useful video! keep up :)
Yeah, takes all the guess work and faffing out. Just load them in, simple. Glad you liked the video. 😉👍
Just a couple of quick questions. Is it easy to navigate Kodi using the Oculus Go controller? Is video playback good using Kodi on the Oculus Go? Is it recommended to charge the Oculus Go using an external battery pack? This might sound academic, but many reviewers don't cover these and other basic concerns.
Yes, Kodi is easy to navigate within Oculus TV. It's the same as the android TV version. Playback is fine, although I've not tried every combination of media and source. And sure, I use mine plugged in pretty much all the time, charge it via the mains or a battery pack, your call, 2a 5v is what it needs.
Tried to find the adb link its no longer available help
Awesome videos. I use mac and the adbLink will not find my headset. How do mac users use this?
Have you set up adb already? Virtual Reality Oasis has a video which goes through the set up for Mac. Give it a watch. 👍
Hi Ramarcus. With Kodi on the GO can apps be downloaded and installed directly to the GO? No need for the PC or adblink?
is there a way to just plug into the go usb port without doing anything else??
What do you mean? You have to accept the message for it to connect. That's it if you just want to tranfer files, but if you set up adb you have to do other stuff. Turn off developer mode if you no longer want to run adb on your headset.
well that was my whole point like other devices i dont want to have to do anything like install software etc etc other than plug a usb drive or cable to a pc into the go and have it work for storing and moving whatever kind of files..its like oculus is going out of its way to prevent people from having the freedom to do what they can do with other devices...@@RaMarcus
You can, easily. Just plug it into your PC, accept the message in thr Go screen and it'll appear as a drive. DO NOT ENABLE DEVELOPER MODE.
I just got the oculus go recently. I noticed that when you take steps to factory reset, (from power off position, hold down power and volume down) among options like, factory reset, there is an option to select called "enable side loading update" is this the same thing as what you are talking about just a different way of doing it or something different all together.
I'm not sure what that is. It might be a way to install a system firmware update to try and fix issues. I wouldn't think it's the same.
Please could you put a list of working app or make a video. I have manage to get Launcher TV working.
There are too many to list. Usually if they're Android TV apps you're pretty safe.
@@RaMarcus I've tried geforce Now app but having trouble viewing. Works on phone and TV but not on the go. BTW great videos
Thanks Ricky 👍
Great video as usual. Thanks much.
Thanks Dave. 😉
hi, would sideloading apps like Kodi etc work for those living in Canada? Here we do not have much in the Oculus TV. thanks
I have Kodi sideloaded on mine and it works fine. 👍
Great vid, thanks...
But I've it a question. I've downloaded several apps and I'm still experimenting, but I ran into a little problem.
The Oculus TV screen is not adjustable and some apps won't adjust to it, causing squashed images or understanding. One example is Toon Blast. It runs fine, controls work, etc, but the screen overlays itself making it impossible to play.
Is there a way to run sideloaded apps WITHOUT Oculus TV and it's restrictions?
Btw, love your channel.
Thanks and unfortunately you're stuck with it like that. Not all apps really work, the best way to ensure good compatibility is to use any that were made Android TV compatible and they should work fine on the Go. 👍
@@RaMarcus If someone does come out with an Oculus TV type player with an adjustable screen size, please do a video on it.
Again, thanks for this video. I just installed the adbLink app and it works great. So much easier.
Maybe oculus can make it so you can play pcvr and quest games on the go by connecting quest controllers
I have slidload apk and it is success
When i check in go device
It is not there? Any idea why it is not appearing
Am i missing something
All the steps done and cmd successes
Depends what you're loading, not all apps work. Sideload ES File Explorer as sometimes you can find them that way as well.
Elimemmed Kazbekov Yes it is working fine now and i install CODI and any all the app will be there
@@lovlylovly6146 When you sideload Kodi, does it only work in one screen viewing app? I'm trying to find a screen viewing all that will give the movie theater layout while using kodi.
Can I use some one else’s pc and then take my oculus home and use it when I want
Sure.
Great stuff Marcus
Thanks for watching mate. 😎👍
Hi - great video as usual. I’ve side loaded the files both manually and by using the application you suggest but they don’t appear in either Oculus TV or Unknown sources in library. I’ve even tried steamlink from the link in the other video. Any thoughts welcome
It might depend on which apps you've installed. Some work and some don't, if it works on Android TV then it's pretty much guaranteed to work on the Go. So grab that version of the app if there is the option.
Ok great I'll give it a go - many thanks
Good luck.
Success with Steamlink but not iPlayer unfortunately. Loving the Go BTW
Yeah I've heard iPlayer requires permissions you can't grant on the Go. Hopefully it'll come officially at some point.
hi there I've installed apks on my oculus go with adb success but can't find my apps in unknown sources can you help me please
They'll either be in unknown sources or in Oculus TV. If they're not in either of those they might not be compatible. You can try sideloading Kodi so you can see the Go's files and see if they're in there and try that way.
@@RaMarcus thank you very much my brother I'll try that and let you know if it's working
great tips - especially adblink so thanks for that. one question - can you scroll in netflix? side loaded it ok and the download options work, but i cant navigate around very easily and its annoying as i prefer the look of netflix via oculus tv (i installed the latest beta version)
Yeah scrolling on the main page is a bit hit and miss from my tests. I tend to just search for what I know is there and scrolling tends to work on other pages.
ok cool appreciate the reply :)
No worries, I doubt they'll ever fix it as such, but keep an eye out for updates to the apk and you never know.
I had sideloaded the standard version of Netflix a few weeks back and was experiencing the same UI issues discussed above. So today I grabbed a newer version (this tool helps a lot: apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ ) and while this version has a few *other* navigation glitches inside Oculus TV (like not being able to get to app's settings, which is a bummer) they are far less problematic than the glitches the earlier app had (like not being able to move around on the home page at all, or download more than 2 episodes of many shows.) The new version provides far more content for download and the app appears to be 90% navigable. A big improvement, if you ask me.
One thing I did discover, even on this newer version, is if you have more than 4 items in your download list, you won't be able to scroll down to the 5th one at first. You have to tick the "edit" (pencil) icon first, as if you are going to delete items, and then scroll down, and then you can tick off that edit icon (as if you're done with that task) and the list stays scrolled down where you left it. THEN, you can select and play back those items that are lower down on your list.
All in all though, the latest version of sideloaded Netflix is yards easier to use and navigate on the Go, so I recommend you upgrade a newer version. And then install this launcher so you can get to it even when you're not on WiFI, which is sort of the reason to be installing this version of Netflix in the first place: github.com/GyroJoe/OculusTVLauncher/releases
My apps are sideloaded on the go (so says the cmd/dos screen ... and your tool ramarcus) but they do not show up anywhere what is the missing step? how do I troubleshoot/ find the unrecognized apk?
They'll either be in Oculus TV or under Unknown Sources in your Library. If they're not there, you can try using Kodi (sideload it) and if that shows in Oculus TV you can browse the root of your Go to find it. Note that not all apps work, it's sort of suck it and see.
@@RaMarcus Thanks, trying Netflix and Prime Video ... I'll try Kodi next, if that doesnt work I'll try previous versions of Netflix and Prime. Then I'll quit ... lol
lol, good luck mate. 👍
@@RaMarcus Success ... Kodi was key
Perfect, people do use other programs instead of Kodi... We we know what Kodi is good for as well. 😉
hi
do you know app that can be cast the oculus go to lg smart tv?
and also do you know why my side load apps only show in my kody app ??? and not at mt oculus tv? ( only kody is in my oculus tv)
thanks
yossi
If they're not android TV compatible they won't appear, Kodi can see the files so can find them.
And if your phone supports it you can share from your phone to the TV.
not all apks are listed in adblink , cant uninstall the apk
What apk? You can't uninstall everything, usually only things you install via adb.
ok but I install it in adblink
You can't find something you installed d via adb? Try rebooting your headset and PC. It might not be called the same thing but I've always found them again to uninstall.
Hi bro,my oculus go doesn't show up in adblink app,but it connected in my pc and working fine. Only problem is i dont c the device in the adb app. Please help.
Does the device show up in command line when you type adb devices? Have you accepted the connection in the headset?
It doesn't show up in command.and i accepted allow in the device.
Try a different USB cable. Sometimes a charging cable doesn't transfer data.
I m using the cable i got with the device. I bought the device yesterday. And i was trying whole day to put kodi in it.
I can transfer file and delete, add file in it.
Cool! I'm too lazy to sideload apps through cmd! Thanks! Btw the only apps that appear are Android tv compatible apps. I have a shield tv with android tv shortcuts that all work for non android tv apps as long as they don't have google play dependencies.
Yeah, Kodi is great for making those other apps available.
how do I setup to run unknown sources
Once you sideload something which would go into unknown sources you will get the option.
You need to put your Oculus Go in Developer Mode, but seeing this comment is a year old now, I hope you have found the issue.
hi agian
how are you?
more thing that i have ,,,, :)
there is lot of time that many app ( insatll apps) like VR cinema. and many more, are crash when i try to load them , get messege of " it will close" or try to reopen the app" and somtimes after few reopening it works and somthimes only after restart . and the cinima ve crash every time no matter what.....
and i see that other did open the vr cinema
to you have some IDE?
thanks
yossi
Try rebooting your headset.
@@RaMarcus i do it a lot... somtimes works somtime no
for the vr cinema it dosent work... no matter what i do . its crash when i try to open it
If it's a sideloaded app then there is no guarantee it'll work. Try a different apk.
thank you dude!
I tried to install the apk of kodi, it said that it is a success in command, but when i'm in the unknown sources it doesn't appear =/
What did i miss?
Boot up Oculus TV app and see if it's there.
ah thank you marcus !! =D
Yeah unless it's an actual Oculus Go created app it won't appear in Unknown sources. Oculus TV app is the key to accessing all the unofficial apps.
oh i see, i understand better =) so if we want to play a vr game with the apk, it will be installed in the oculus tv ? I ask because I saw some apps from a vr contest that I would like to try :)
It depends what they are. Google Cardboard/daydream apps won't work sideloaded as they need Google services to work. But just sideload them and see what works, no one has tested every app.
Unfortunately, could not get PUBG mobile to work. All you see if the initial bootscreen and then it goes black within oculus TV.
The apps you'll have the best chance of getting to work are any Android TV compatible apps. Everything else you just have to test and see.
Hey - I got my oculus go yesterday, used it and was really impressed, but then left it to charge overnight .... now it won't turn on! The only way I can get any sign of life from it is to plug it in to the charger, which causes the oculus logo to flicker on and off....have any Go useres encountered this? Have I got a faulty headset?
Make sure it is charging as that is what happens when it's not charged. Put it on charge again and leave it for 10mins and then hold the power button to turn it back on. I had this once when the battery was completely flat.
Thanks - will try it again when I get home - I left it plugged in overnight but maybe it wasn't actually charging - is there a way to tell that it's definitely charging? e.g. the LED turns a certain colour?
This happened to me. I found that holding the power button for 15 seconds fixed it.
So I’m i the only one who can not connect my go to "adb link" program? I downloaded the "adb link" open it and connect my go, but nothing is happening, What am i doing wrong?
Have you set up and installed the adb drivers first? Does your device corm up when you put adb devices into the command line? You can try some older adb drivers if the official ones don't work.
Me too. adb wont show devices, adblink wont show.
KODI ... 🙌🏼 YAY!... and stuff.
Ha yeah, I knew some would be pleased by that. Have fun. 😉
Do we need to download adb link first before we can download kodi?
You need to set up Side loading first and then you can install abdlink and/or Kodi. Learn more about sideloading via the like to Virtual Reality Oasis' guide in my description. Then you can use my tips.
RaMarcus - Thanks... it’s still a long process.
Yeah you do the long process to set it all up and then you can just use abdlink to side load apps rather than messing with adb command lines. If you want the good stuff, you have to put in the effort. 😉
I just sub'd. Good content & info. The only thing I suggest is please keep you head from moving. It gets a bit annoying trying to followings you. Agian, good content, though!!
Thanks for the sub and feedback, I get a bit excited and carried away but will try and calm down when in the headset.
Could I sideload need for speed vr
If that's an Android game then yeah, give it a go and see how it works. If it needs tilt controls it might not work but if it can work with a Bluetooth controller then you might be in luck. Give it a go and let me know if it works. 😉
RaMarcus just had a bit of an idea emulators wonder if the go can run gamecube
Yeah people are using emulators for sure. Seen game boy and assume 8bit and 16bit would be fine. Let me know if some of the other consoles work if you try them.
Is it just me or does this guy look like a younger version of the grand illusions guy.
Should I take that as a compliment? I can't do any magic tricks though. 🤔
Is it me, or is RaMarcus a bit drunk in this one!? Hahahahahaha.
Drunk on life may be. 😎🍻
Like 👍
Thanks. 😉
RaMarcus i can't wait my go Will come tomorrow
Nice, you'll love it mate, it's a great piece of kit.
Problem solved, we now have external launchers for Netflix and Amazon, no need to use Oculus TV (which relies on WiFi to display icons.)
Excellent!

Interesting, thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.
hi
can you help me please?
i did all this and install apk. i get sucuss messge , but i can find the app on the oculus go ?
what to do? where to serch it?
thanks
yossi
It'll either be in the Oculus TV app or in your Library under Unknown Sources.
@@RaMarcus :( no on both..... i install also the kodi like you and get ok, but cant find it at all
That's strange, Kodi shows up in Oculus TV for sure. Try rebooting your Go?
RaMarcus still don’t find them
What did you install, maybe it's not compatible? Sometimes there are more than one version of an app. Always try and find Android TV versions as they'll more likely work.
