- Before the God of Israel was understood to be the sole omnipotent God of the universe, Yahweh (or "Jehovah") was worshiped as part of a pantheon of gods that included Ba'al, El, and Asherah. As an Atheist I find Centre Place interesting. The evolution of the god concept in the minds of Homo sapien sapien seems aligned with the evolution of culture.
@rodneyhatch56, I'm also an Atheist/Agnostic who finds Centre Place and Godly concepts in general quite interesting. I even occasionally visit random churches just to see what's going on in the world of the "God believers." I of course cannot prove that God either exists or does not exist, but I'll admit that God is at least an interesting topic of discussion.

This was an extremely educative and interesting lecture. Very eye opening. I too am from Argentina and here it is very catholic, my curiosity took me to this journey of trying to find the truth about god and the bible, so this video has helped a lot

If God never changes, and you claim Jesus Christ is God(although the Bible text reads: God and his Christ), why is Jesus so different from Yahweh? Christians claim Yahweh was too violent and Jesus Christ was not, obviously that is a change.
This course will no appear in Sunday schools.

It's so easy to teach people towards being angry and pedantic. They should be careful, as anger is the easiest emotion to use to manipulate people. Obviously, checkable details are important in their correct context, sure. This thread and forum might serve or it might not. So know that Mithra is not a Roman god, and yet it made it to Rome and became strong (strongly believed by those in power) in the Roman Empire. So then it becomes evidenced that the self-appointed priests will always start their grift anywhere they are banished to as long as there is fertile ground for them to fleece. Nature banishes them from their previous posts. Old-line Kings banish them. New-conquering Emperors banish them. But their livelihood is corrupt and biased from the start, so they have desperation as a strong and empowering motivation. Buddha, the Blessed Fig and the First Bloomed Lotus, teaches that we need to have the proper livelihood. Our livelihood's control our biases, and so paint our vision and edit our memories towards maintaining the status quo.

Thank you so much for sharing these lectures ( thank god for TH-cam 😉). It is fascinating. At school I learned that religions were created by primitive people. But when I listen to this I'm amazed by those people observing the life on earth and trying to explaine how the world functions without all the knowledge and science we have by creating such beautiful though sometimes cruel stories.

Excellent, in my view, this is all about unraveling the story of how we humans evolved very early on in our quest for understanding, of deciphering our ways of connecting with the divine. Hi there. Thank you for the lovely presentation. The work of archeologist David Rohl may be of great interest to you. Basically: discovered a likely mistake in Egypt chronology, realigned it with the rest of history, and realized the archeological record was not very thin regarding Israel, but actually quite rich, simply because evidence of Israel was always there, but unidentified as them for chronological reasons. If his work isn't fully recognized, I think it's at least good to be aware of it when you touch this topic. Blessings
Hes a kook and not even an effing archaeologist. He is one of the frauds who gets an ancillary to archaeology degree, calls himself an archaeologist, has no formal training, does no real work in the field, and literally just looks to confirm the Bible any way he can.
His work isnt accepted for the same reason Ron Wyatt is rejected: they arent credible, they arent archaeologists, and theyve done no real credible work in the field.
Took me two seconds in google to see this. I have an actual anthropology bachelor's in mortuary archaeology. I have more credibility in the field than he does and I havent done archaeology work professionally in a decade.
The only good in knowing who he is comes from being able to tell credulous people like yourself that he isnt an effing archaeologist at all and nothing he has to say on Egyptian chronology and Israelite history is worth listening to

Did you mean "sacrifice"? Did El decide to eat Baal? Sacrifice means to make sacred before eating. We sacrifice now by saying grace before meals. To kill in order to give to the gods is an offering. The world of the dead was the spirit world of the gods, which is why you killed what you offered to a god. So why would El need to kill Baal, if he is already in the spirit world?

Another lecturer was saying there is evidence Moloch meant the sacrifice, often the moloch was to YHWH, apparently the God wanted the first born of peoples possessions, (goats, sheep, children) after the eight day of their birth. (but not all groups did this)...what did the God want these sacrifices for? Did He eat them? Take them up to the Spirit World to serve Him or generally be useful? Is there an explanation for this?
it was assumed sacrifices to Moloch would bring good fortunes and vegetation for the Canaanites. Moloch was their Sun god, the bull god, and Ba’al was their Wind/Storm god.

Genomic research shows no difference between Canaanites and Israelites. They were the same people. I interpret the story as: the Israelites emerged from the Canaanite culture in a similar way that the Mormons arose out of Western European Christian culture. The Mormons are not a “separate ethnicity “ from Western Europeans. They just created a slightly different form of the Western European culture, including some aspects of religion.

It would be nice to have the inclusion of the evolution of henotheism to monolatry to monotheism and would be easy to incorporate in your talk as well, if repeated. This would help when understanding the early near east cultures and even Christianity, due to the view of Satan as "the God of this world." With Satan not being completely subordinate to God, in the new testament, and certain beliefs about the trinity, many would consider Christianity henotheistic. While in the old testament, Satan was completely subordinate to God. In fact being one of the few characters that never gets punished for disobedience to God.

The old testament seems to know a lot about a religion it wants nothing to do with. Notice how it only concerns itself with negating very specific things. The writers of the old testament spanned many religions and societies, and yet baal and asherah seem to be mentioned over much larger gods.

Paul would prefer henotheism/monotheism in a similar style to the Zoroastrian (which is explicitly monotheist, with angra mayu (their version of Satan) owing its existence to Ahura Mazda (their understanding of First Creator / Most High)). The Holy Spirit is the Holy Breath/Wind, and would have been a "feminine" word. At least that is how the word-choice appears to work out given their vague language.
