The 1911 is special and that comes from someone who is from Europe. I looked at a lot of gun reviews and the legendary 9mm or .45 debates, but what i did notice is that: Americans appreciate the pros of 9mm rounds, but they smile most of the time when talking about .45. I prefer 9mm myself, but the .45 and 1911 have that magic charisma most 9mm guns dont. Except the Beretta M9A3. Geez i love that gun as much as i love the 1911. Anyway, great vid. You earned a sub sir.
Thank you! I agree; that tends to be the sentiment from what I’ve seen too. .45 is pretty special but the pros of 9mm are pretty hard to ignore - a great caliber as well!
I've been using the 1911 since I was 12 I used it in the army through my whole time that was pretty long my grandfather started me shooting on 45 long Coats and he said if you can't shoot this you shouldn't be shooting a gun at all
@@alfonso9626 please stay away from novice shooters, we don't need you turning them off and creating any more anti gun people. And yes you can go wrong with a 1911, it's called a Springfield armory. Especially the shorter barrel ones
@heavilyarmedhippie75 at the risk of sounding like a Springfield Armory "fanboy" my 2024 TRP Operator has been flawless so far (just over 3,000 rounds). But I agree, they need to do better with their qc. Their single stack guns, generally, work but their double stack guns tend to be problematic. I can't figure out why.
Always wanted one of these. Have owned and still own a number of 1911s and they’re some of my favorite shooters. These Colt variants are just plain badass
If you're looking for a 1911 in 2023, I'd probably just avoid the colts that have been on the market for the last two decades. Aside from the branding, there is not much that justifies their price compared to the other 1911s on the market. The colt M45 in particular is very underwelming, and I'd only get it got military history collections
I bought one for a safe Queen , they keep going up in value . I shoot a 2011 Staccato The M45A1 will be worth more later on. They are not easy to Find .Even on Gunbroker i never found one lately .
Solid point. As much as I know this gun could withstand a lot of mileage, I’m thinking the same thing. A 2011 would be awesome. How do you like it? I’ve also toyed with the idea of getting a Dan Wesson Specialist as an actual “tool” vs just a safe queen… that would be interesting!

After my 4 year stick on the Marine Corps I brought home my Colt 1991A1 45 ACP and my 1987 Sig Sauer P220 45 APC. IT cost me 1200 bucks for both back in 1991. I sold my Colt 45 ACP to my deputy sheriff buddy! I got on my suburban dept. I bought a Smith and Wesson model 4006 a Browning HP 40 but couldn't use them on the police Dept. I used my Smith Wesson at my security job. I sold all these weapons and got me a HK USP MARK 4 23 45 ACP and used that on our dept. I used my Sig Sauer P 220 ACP to.
It brings nostalgia and crispness to the table Not utility. That is defined by the era in which the tool is used. The era has defined the 1911 well and solidified its niche. Same to Revolvers
Beautiful gun. I have the version that came out with the cerakote and love mine as well. It is a beefy pistol but that helps absorb the recoil a bit IMO. Capacity and design are fine for what it is but the biggest issue I have with the gun is the lack of front grip serrations. For a pistol from the mid 2k’s prior to the 2020’s hyper inflation it is criminal that this gun was fielded by soldiers and sold to civilians for $1600 without those serrations. At the time an Ed brown was only a few hundred more and those guns just about perfectly embody what a 1911 can be. That said it’s a really nice pistol and a great collectors piece.
Totally agree, I think the front serrations would have really helped with the grip. The Custom Shop version sells them but IMO they should be standard on all versions!
My first firearm 20+ years ago was Kimber 1911. It's the "Custom" which is basically their entry model. Nothing fancy. Just black iron sights, no rails and unlike their "Series II" models, this one doesn't have a firing pin safety. I take a bit of pride in that as I'm hard pressed to find a review on YT of a Kimber that isn't a Series II so I sort of feel like I got a classic. LOL! The trigger is fantastic and it is very accurate. My vision has diminished considerably over the years so I've had 3 dot night sights added to it which helps me line up the sights much easier. I too use Wilson Combat mags for reliable feeding. The single action trigger on this firearm spoiled me so much over the years, that it was just last year that I finally got my first double action handgun (Sig P320, full sized). I like it and 9mm is more affordable to shoot but my Kimber will always be my first love. That said, the Colt you have looks like a splendid firearm.
I personally still think .45ACP is better. .45 has a 60% larger wound channel size over 9mm, so my double stack 1911 with a 15+1 capacity is actually higher capacity in terms of damage on target to a 17+1 capacity 9mm. 60% larger wound size means 2 .45s does more damage than 3 9mms, and even if we dropped it down to 50% to equalize those numbers, 16/2=8 while 18/3=6. Modern 9mm loads are merely adequate now at a cheaper price, which overrides raw performance.
I have the the two tone black and fde in the colt custom with the green pelican case I like mine but for it being from the CCS the tolerances are sloppy but some can argue it my be lose fit bc it’s marine edition I supposed but I got mine for 2100 out the door in 2019 before the price that they are now in 2023 $4000 plus but I still love mine lol I plan to send to nighthawk custom to actually get it fitted but I am not sure yet tbh still debating if I should tho what’s your opinion?
I have a Sar Arms K2 .45 with the 13 round magazine. I love the capacity but the weight is a bit much. I have been eyeing one of these locally and think I may have to pick it up. Hard to go wrong with Colt.
Depends on what you plan on using the weapon for? I grew up on 1911's and have owned a few from Star PD's to Springfield and a few in between . My favorite handgun of all time. As a practical handgun for EDC it a dinosaur. I shifted from my Meusoc .45 1911 to a Glock 30 FS in 2012. No I am not comparing both , different types of pistol both happen to be my preferred caliber for EDC. That SAR is a fine weapon. I tried to fine one but couldn't.
I’m new to your channel and I’m binging your videos. Amazing quality between the shots you take, audio, and yourself. Keep them up, I’ll be sticking around to keep watching
I love a 1911 myself though do you know the history of this 1911? Was falling apart in the field on Marines the Marine corps sent 2500 of them back demanded Colt to fix. Colt put forward some fixes but the Marine Corps rejected them 3 months later Colt filled for bankruptcy as the U.S. Government demanded a payment of 4.3Million. There is MUCH more to it BUT this is the high level. I am sure Colt wishes they never produced this one. Though in good news the Marine Corps kept the majority of the pistols and many are still in the field today.
Haha yeah it sounded like this gun had a pretty troubled past. And I’m sure the frame tracking is part of the 2500 you mentioned. But damn I love this pistol haha
I just bought one, I paid almost NightHawk prices for a used one just because I wanted this since I first saw it while deployed. I’ll shoot it then send it off for an optic cut…maybe.
What separates the 1911 in my opinion is the trigger. The worst 1911 trigger is better than anything else. Just my opinion, don’t everybody get all huffy
Every time I shoot the M45A1 I still can't get over how much more crisp the trigger is compared to my G17's (sorry Glock). It's the only 1911 I have so I can't compare it to other guns in its class, but damn, I've really come to appreciate a nice trigger!
The 1911 trigger is the epitome of pistol marksman ship. What I mean by that is that it enables the shooter to practice sight alignment and trigger control in the most efficient manner. In my experience it’s the easiest handgun to shoot very well very quickly. It enables the easiest merger of front sight where you need/firing when you need than any other handgun platform.
