So lucky to be a human being and listen to Richter playing Bach
Thank you so much! Many people don't realise how lucky we are to have YT and people willing to share great gems such as this. Years ago I had to go to Japan to find DVDs with this kind of recordings.
Brilliant master itself will open our souls for this ethernal music
Thank you Bach! Thank you Richter! Thank you for uploading :)
Richter's playing is as natural as water cascading
One of my most favourite concerts of great Richter alongside with late Oleg Kagan and Natalia Gutman. What a pleiad!
Natasha Ditkivska Who are the other four?

After I played with fire I come down and listen to this music and I feel myself safe and calm. God Bless JSB & S.R.! Amen !
Both Richters (Karl and Sviatoslav) are great at Bach in their own way.
What a beauty!!
Seeing incredible material like this so freely and accessibly gives me hope for both the future of music and technology alike. Masterful performances with moments of exquisite otherworldly beauty. Thank you for taking the time to upload this content - an education and a delight.
It is formidable. The Bach-Richter merger is a perfect marriage. Great!!! thanks Stanislav
LOL He's not Stan...He's Svyat.
Svyatoslav means "Holy Glory"
Roma Pupilla Oh wow didn’t know that!
Thanks Stanley 😊
I like it, I like it.
saw him play twice NYC and Scotland --just dazzling!
he is my favourite interpret of Bach
Can't believe TH-cam would drop a commercial in the middle of this video
Richter is this guitarist's favorite pianist. His BWV 998 has informed my playing of this "lute" piece more than any guitarist's rendering. I later discovered it was written not for lute but for a gut-string keyboard. His easy grace with Bach is the pinnacle of my experience with this composer.
22:21-25:11 Richter's great solo!
What a useless camera man
I listened to Richter's recordings of Schumann all night in 1970 before I went to a concert by a pianist who was a student of Clara Schumann, and a classmate of my daughter's piano teacher, playing in Lincoln Center. But I never listened to Richter playing Bach before until tonight. It was absolutely wonderful ! George Wu, A.I.A. 2013-11-5
Bravo !!!!❤️.
My favorite Richter ! Thank you Quentin for this sharing with Bach.
Richter's WTB bk1 is truly great. The b- prelude and fugue is divine and brilliantly interpreted.
We all know his Rach 2 is the gold standard by which all others are measured.
The quality of every moment, every note, thus every step of one’s life. Great lesson.
Bach par Richter, juste merveilleux
excellent organization of video notes, thanks
wow...lt is formidable...perfect !!!
Sublime.
Bach’s music seems divinely inspired.
It is divinely inspired.
All his stuff was written for the glory of God, even his secular works. Dude was a genius imbued with talent from God. I don't know how else a human can write such complicated and beautiful works - this is a composer that set the standard benchmark across a large range of categories - e.g. Concerti grossi (Brandenburg Concerti), solo keyboard works (Well Tempered Klavier Books 1 and 2, English, French, and German Suites), solo violin works (Violin Sonatas and Partitas), solo cello partitas (Cello Partitas), solo lute works (Lute Partitas), religious works - the St. Matthew Passion, the St. John passion, numerous religious Christian cantatas including "Sleepers Awake" (better translation is "Wake up calls the Voice") and Jesu, the Joy of Man's Desiring (better translation "Jesus is my joy").
@@badmotherfarker123 You know, Bach actually studied music practically every day for many many hours from adolescence and onwards. Of course he must have had talent in music, but practice is what made him brilliant. Not "God given talent".
@@badmotherfarker123 there is no German suites to my knowledge
The solo keyboard partitas are sometimes known as the German suites. And many people have spent much of their days studying music. I don’t think anyone’s music has reached higher than Bach’s - which is interpreted brilliantly here

Angélique Duvier
One of the greatest pianist .... God stopped making pianist like Richter
Such beautiful transparency in the Brandenburg Concerto only to be spoiled by the flute being consistently sharp throughout.
We called Bach," the Father of Music" when I was in China. George Wu, A.I.A. 2013-11-5
hope to find this play as an album!
Fa venire i brividi pensare che Oleg Kagan, tra pochi anni verrà a mancare. Una perdita immensa!

El violín. acompaña tan bien gran violín. 👍.
No sabía que son tres. 🇲🇽.
Damn purists...this is lovely
gripping performance ...
Richter is very unique in his playing, but for some reason in a way not to stop listening. Wonderful pianist.
Cool experiment! In the 21st century we have far better understanding of Bach than ever thanks to early tryings like this one.
WOW!
German (Argentina)
*Sviatoslav Richter plays Bach* Most extraordinary production values, but gripping.
I feel the same way. This is an especially psychedelic interpretation of a sort of psychedelic composition. It feels like some unstoppable surge one is about to dissolve in. BTW my favourite concerto.
magic speech of dictor
Richter plays on the piano and not on harpsichord, but he respects and follows the score as much as piano allows. At the same time, he never reduces the piano to some colourless antique instrument, as some modern Historically Informed Performers (HIP) do. So yes, I consider this to be an authentic interpretation, in the spirit of Bach, not literally as some modern talentless HIPsters try to educate us.
So many played those times are now no more
RIP to those great souls 😪😪😪
🪦🪦🪦🪦⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️.
how? can? such beauty
Grande !!!
the correct spelling the best pianists
Why does the voice-over say that Richter would play it closely to what Bach had meant, while he is playing on a piano and the violinists around him are playing very romantic?
I saw him play twice

That's a culture thing. I can't believe myself what a shift of culture I am living through. From an attitude of self control, self containment, into a culture of balancing opposing interests without rather than within our selves. Bach's emotions sometimes set his fists into motion too, but, generally, I understand his music like projecting all the dissonances of social life into ones mind and balancing them within.
Maybe my favorite pianist of all time!Am I the only one who doesn' t like camera men at such concerts???
I have to admit this strange big harpsichord - FortePiano called - sounds better than my old harpsichord would have. Nice. Surprising. J S Bach vom Graben so ist est.
wow
Master, maestro, meester,meister,metre,
How can i found 2nd and 3rd movement played by Richter

Gegroet,
Geert Dehoux, pianist.
Are there this concert recording I can buy as CD? It is incredible!!!!!!!!
Mmmh, there's probably a recording of this (or similar) in the vast Richter discography. Here are two examples: th-cam.com/video/I73tndGNi3Y/w-d-xo.html And: www.allmusic.com/album/rachmaninov-piano-concerto-no-1-bach-piano-concerto-bwv-1052-mw0001854964
Max Richter. 🇲🇽.
Is this on CD?
Piano or harpsichord, it does not matter, I find both equal for Bach's music, I cannot solve the problem, if there is a problem.
Another little thing is the recording here, not perfect, microphones seem too closed to the instruments, and the piano sounds a bit loud.
But anyway the notes of a piano sound louder than a harpsichord, notes are clearer, it can be an advantage at some moments in Bach's Concerti, and sometimes an handicap.
For solo pieces, piano is better than the Harspichord for the expression, the feeling.
Just a personnal opinion.

the harpsichord at 3:00 is in my bedroom, look my channel u'll see it XD!
I did but I found Richter's interpretation far superior. There's no comparison. But of course that's my own opinion.
