I remember his performances in Moscow in 80th, I believe, at Pushkin Museum. Of maybe it was 70th? Life has past so fast, though it was so rich, eventful, interesting.
Richter better than others shows that Haydn and Mozart were contemporaries, Richter connect both by a bridge and makes me hear Mozart in Haydn and that Mozart was born from Haydn.
He was a complex person. Not everything could be in a documentary, or rather, yes, if to focus only on his artistic life. In Soviet times people were respectful and never touched his personal life. He was a great man; great soul and he was also an intellectual.
@@naturalississimo I played this as a child and I remember how hard it was to keep the tempo steady and give each note its due. The urge is to make it fly!
@@giovanna722 yes, youth often tends towards rushing and overly fast tempos, but here, Richter is a seasoned performer, and he understands the structure and content and character of the music. It was hard to find a really musical performance of this, but Richter’s is great. It is a delightful piece, and that comes through with Richter, who plays other Haydn pieces beautifully as well.

@@luka6227 So you were there. I would have lose my mind if I had the chance to hear Richter live. But did you see that often, I mean playing the whole concerto again as an encore ? This is very generous. I mean I never saw this, maybe in Russia this is something musicians do ?
Cosi it’s very unusual anywhere for a whole concerto to be encored. The nearest I experienced to that was in 1970 when Radu Lupu came to the Guildhall in Cambridge to play the Emperor Concerto with a student orchestra, not long after he won the Leeds competition. He played the last movement again as an encore. It was a thrilling concert. The conductor was Anthony Beaumont, now a distinguished musicologist, I believe. Richter was not always generous with encores, and notably refused to play any after his Mozart and Chopin recital at the Barbican in the late 80s (which I attended), probably because he was angry about aspects of the lighting and the filming of the recital.

Wow! Only Richter can play the Richter way to bring justice to this remarkable Concerto by the master Haydn!
Richter's clarity is astonishing. Every note rings out precisely and the whole concerto flows like water.
Richter gives Hyden wings, wings which Haydn sometimes needs.

A very snappy performance that is unique
Great Richter. 👍 Thank you so much.
Magnificient.
Wonderful!!!! All concerto double!!!!
its virus time ,i was looking for rock, but i am here lets enjoy it .thank you, april 2020
Amazing! Haydn played like never before.
Great artist
Richter preferred Haydn to Mozart and had the courage to say so
Maybe Richter loved Haydn's humor and more "rustic" style than Mozart's perfect elegance. Mozart is champagne, Haydn is a robust beer...I like both!
Unforgettable Haydn, unforgettable Richter!

Gracias, Fantastica versión
He gets into the music so that, the music can get into him.
Good job Richter!!!!
