I’m not surprised you have to pinch yourself, I bet you’re in dream world. Great to see Badgers,Foxes and Tawny Owls in your garden too - I can see Badger Project 2 coming. The amount of possibilities your new home is giving you is going to take your photography to another level. I’m really pleased for you Simon.
Amazing. What a dream to have all that in your backyard. Not having to call or contact people or ask to use their property or pay to use their hides is priceless really. Priceless.
The still picture is a Marsh Tit, white spot on upper bill and buffy rear cheeks. The first video clip was a Willow Tit, no spot on the bill and cleaner white cheeks. Great to have both species there
What a great plot of land, so much variety, a wildlife photographers paradise👌 Badgers, Foxes & Raptors! Bloody hell, brilliant.🤛 Love the images of the Bullfinch & the Blue Tit on that reindeer lichen branch, you could sell stills of that.👍 btw - looking very smart in your AB roll neck😎
Wow, you’ve been busy. Such a difference already and I’m loving your plans. Re the Sparrowhawk, I think it was a female due to colouring, males front barring tends to be more orange and head and back more slate grey. Happy to be told I’m wrong though!
This is the kind of place I aspire to have one day, I always really enjoy your Content Simon, you must be my favorite channel on all of YT. You have actually inspired me to go and start my own Wildlife Photography TH-cam Channel a few weeks ago as I see the joy it brings you so thanks for giving me the push to do it I really love it! Keep the amazing videos coming!
Brilliant work Simon !! Not easy being Lord Ashfordly 😀 absolutely beautiful property and everything your doing is an improvement ! loving these videos but great to see you behind the camera aswell take care man !!
You’ve set yourselves quite a to do list but you have so much nature waiting in the wings that it’s going to be amazing. No wonder you have to pinch yourself. You’re living the dream.
Looks like you bought the right place. I get foxes and their cubs in my garden, also a surprise visit by a badger but I'm outskirts of a town, would be amazing to be as wild as you are!
Hi Si comment together nicely regarding the path i would just dig a path out things are starting to happen but no doubt will take time you are not shy of a bit of graft that's for sure and will look stunning when it is finished all the best Laurence.
Ive liked all ur videos in the past but i have to say im loving these most recent ones, its just different from the usual wildlife photography ones out there. Seeing ur new place come together & what types of wildlife you attract i think will be really interesting.
Brilliant stuff Simon, looking good bud. You really are living the dream in Wales & not Scotland (just in case you forgot!) 😅 I reckon you’ll easily get red kites down on the strip of land towards the orchard if you throw a few chicken/meat scraps out. Plenty of them in 🏴 Look forward to watching your progress. Keep on keeping on! Best, Nick
Another great video Simon! I’m bloody knackered just watching all the work being done mate, good to see you behind the lens again, after all it’s what has led you into this journey? a lovely time of the year coming up so I’m looking forward to more streams, best wishes Terry 👍📷🦅
LIVING THE DREAM !! Looks great Simon...my only bit of advice re hides is take your time building the permanent ones or ideally make them liftable/moveable !! I discovered the hard way how in the summer/autumn the backdrop from your shooting position that is all monotone and great in winter/spring will suddenly throw a big blob of colour or lines into your backdrop when things come into full leaf. (think a Hornbeam tree going a nice orange in autumn.which is what got me from one hide !) Good luck with everything you're doing and if you love doing it it's not really hard work !! :-)
Thanks Nigel, yeh youre right. I'm gonna put up a couple of level platforms and utilise my Monal hides before committing to the permanent locations. Cheers for the tips !!👊🏼
Cheers Geoff, it was a consideration but there are no Deer or Rabbits in the area so they should be ok. I'll keep my eye on them though. Thanks for watching 👍🏼👊🏼👀
Thanks for showing me around your place, Simon. Seems like there is always a lot of work to be done first when you are getting a new place ready for some long term photography, but, if the pictures you posted today are any indication, it is all going to be worth it. Those were beautiful shots. I'll be looking forward to your next post.
Wow, what an amazing setting and versatile landscape you've now got Simon. A lot of work but what's the rush and the opportunities are endless, unlike the money 😊
Hi simon, the homestead taking shape. I'm thinking you could get yourself some water butts, one for your barn/wood shed instead of running back into the stream, you could us it for your veg plot and maybe a shredder to make paths at your barn/wood shed and veg plot areas.
You've definitely busy & your vision is coming along nicely. Regards to the slope I personally would put in a levelled path to make life easier for yourself & to stop the ground getting churned up
Hi Simon, I can completely understand that you have to pinch yourself from time to time, you truly life in a (wildlife) paradise what an amazing views! I'm looking forward to your adventures. Take care, greetings from The Netherlands, Gladys
Living the dream Simon seeing the badger and fox is great news mate hopefully see some cubs in the future you got plenty work to keep you busy looking forward to seeing what you get done on the next video atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Looking great so far, I’m on the south coast below you, we have about an acre backing onto farmland, deer, badger, fox, stoat, grass snake, sparrowhawk, red kite, buzzard , GSW, green woodpecker all regulars in the garden. I’ve got 200 bare root native hedging trees to go in, it’s too wet at present so they’re in a nursery bed awaiting a break in the weather 😢. Really looking forward to following your journey, it’s great having the space, but I spend 4/5 hours a week mowing in the summer………….👀
Sounds perfect to me, spoilt for choice. So many species and thats not counting the Summer arrivals. Ive just bought a ride on!! Hopefully it'll speed the job up!!👌🏼🤞🏼
Best channel on YT at the moment! I was thinking the other day I hope Simon puts another video out soon and you didn’t disappoint, mate. You’ve got some great ideas for the homestead there and the wildlife will be queuing up to get in there. Can’t wait for the next one! 👍🏻
Great to see you back Simon and to see how you are cracking on with everything. So much to do but what a fantastic place you have there. Look forward to seeing what's next.
Great beginning to the homestead. Feel your pain with the wet weather. Just had a couple of dry days up here. Fantastic that you’re surrounded with wildlife. All the best. 👍📷😎
Fantastic video Simon - very inspiring - I am looking at setting similar areas up at my Dads - on the hunt for branches/stumps etc to build the platforms and get the hide set up
So happy for you Simon. Can't wait to see what other surprises you get. I live on the south coast and was very excited to hear this week that there are discussions going on to reintroduce pine martens to sussex and Kent. That would be wonderful. Can't wait for the next installment of 'the homestead'
Brilliant Stevie, thats what this country needs. Reintroduction of native species, theres a lot of good people doing some great work out there. Good news for the Red squirrels too, keep the greys down.
Another great vlog, fantastic to see your plans coming together and also fantastic to see all the different species on your land and very exciting that you have badgers around. Keep up the great work.
subbed to channel for the adventure you are about to start with this new home. 14:10min you underexpose a bit. any special reason for that? i feel overexposing a bit and remove the noise is much easier on a brighter photo than underexposing and then deal with much more noise after pulling up the depths. no? 😮
Loved the update :-) looking forward to the next one in anticipation. So much wildlife and future projects, I can see the progress you’ve made in just the two videos. Keep up the hoofing work :-)
So Simon with all the progress you’ve made the workshops and courses will kick off soon😂😂😂 Happy to be a Guinea Pig we can bring our own accommodation if you have space for a caravan 😂😂😂😂 Looks wonderful enjoy.
Hi Simon great to see all the work you have been doing in such a short time since you moved to Wales. Have you had a look at the woodland trust for trees? I have found them fairly reasonable price wise for Land owners Subsidised tree packs. I bought bear root trees before from another company and found 50"% failed compared to the cell grown ones available from the woodland trust Might be worth a look. Keep up the great work Regards John
Brilliant future plans Simon and a lot of hard graft but its turning out to be a wonderful wildlife haven, Really looking forward to your next videos. 👍fantastic 🦡🦊
Brilliant Simon, fantastic that you've got badgers n that Sparrow hawk was a beauty. I was canoeing with a fella whose done a lot of conservation with badgers even to the extent of being trusted enough by them to be climbing all over him n feeding them by hand etc 🙂. Pretty cool. Great film Si. Love the workshop too Atb Rick n Billydog
well you have been busy Simon, starting to take shape. you already have a great verity of shooting subject with the willow tits, Tawny, fox, Badger and Sparrow hawk , not forgetting all the small birds. You have a dream place. Great to see you out with the camera again Enjoy
Hello Simon, your excitement and enthusiasm is clear. Well done for pursuing your dream and well done for pursuing something which is beneficial to us all. Looking forward to the next instalment. JT (previously from Euxton nr Chorley, now a soppy southerner!)
Cheers JT, people with a bit of land should remember theyre only custodians for a very short time. Its nice to hopefully enhance it, protect and nurture it for the benefit of the critters that are lucky enough to reside there. Me included!!😃👍🏼
Great video Simon - living the dream mate and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say thank you for taking us along. Can’t wait for the next video! Just one thing, that Tit had a pale patch at the base of the beak - Marsh Tit? Keep up the good work mate 👍🏻
Its a pleasure to bring you all along on the journey. Jury is still out on the bird ID. I'm going to use my Merlin app, apparently their call is the best form of identification. All the best, Si
Do you think you will get dippers on the gorgeous stream you have? Also, before you do a permanent hide, check your background when things are growing. Right now it is perfect but summer the greens may mess with it, maybe.
Thanks John, yes something to bear in mind. Regarding the dippers, I dont think its big enough unfortunately but we'll get the trailcams out and see what turns up. Thanks for watching 👊🏼👀
What can I say, brilliant, you are going to have a fabulous journey there Simon, some nice shots by the way, We have willow tits on an RSPB reserve near us, swell wood near Langport in somerset well known for it's nesting colony of heron's, All the best as always, Mike E nvious,😊...
Now there is a happy man living the dream. Willow tits, badgers etc in the garden, what not to like. The place is looking great mate, Keep up the good work. 👍
Hi Simon I really apologize for troubling you I know you are busy. But I have had to give up work because of a heart problem and i am struggling with sharpness with my pictures I think it's because of my lens which is a cheap one. At the moment I am saving for a better one I have heard that the 500pf is good plus it's lighter which will be better for my heart is the 500pf really good
Hi Bob, sorry to hear about your health issues. Regarding the 500pf it is a superb piece of glass. Theres not much more I can say about it that hasn't already been said in all the online reviews. I would certainly recommend it if youre after decent reach but also having the massive weight savings advantages too. A great piece of glass. 👌🏼
Wow, you are really getting things done! I don’t know how you find the time, no wonder you haven’t had the camera out. I know the feeling of that, but I haven’t made anywhere near the progress in nearly three years! BTW, that Reindeer Lichen, really look s great in the photos, we get loads of it here too, I am forever picking up sticks covered in it to make perches, but rarely use them at the moment. Is Reindeer Lichen actually it’s real name?
Cheers Peter, I get up really early and go to bed really late!!! A good head torch helps too🤣 Yes Reindeer lichen is one of its names amongst many others.
I’ve been wondering what you’ve been up too with that amazing property you showed us. The enthusiasm in your voice & the anticipation of what you’re planning is just ouzing out of you. What videos we have to look forward to, bagers, foxes, owls & an brillant variety of birds all on your doorstep……….bloody hell, every photographers dream. Thanks for sharing the progress & plans. Cant wait for the next one. Btw just couldn’t believe how many hides you have……..gobsmacked.🤣
I’m not surprised you have to pinch yourself, I bet you’re in dream world. Great to see Badgers,Foxes and Tawny Owls in your garden too - I can see Badger Project 2 coming. Hi simon, the homestead taking shape. I'm thinking you could get yourself some water butts, one for your barn/wood shed instead of running back into the stream, you could us it for your veg plot and maybe a shredder to make paths at your barn/wood shed and veg plot areas.
Cheers James, yeh the butts are a good shout. Undecided yet about the paths but the chipper would be a definite help 👍🏼
Great video. Looking forward to more projects and build videos👍

Now there is a happy man living the dream. Willow tits, badgers etc in the garden, what not to like. The place is looking great mate, Keep up the good work. 👍
Thanks John, welcome down any time mate with the camera traps. Show me how its done !!😃📷👍🏼
Slowly Coming On Great News On The Fox & Badgers
Cheers Sonny, yeh it was great to capture them on the trailcams !!👀👌🏼

Living the dream Simon ! Where did you get your tree whips from please ?
Thanks Helen. We got them from the Dingle nursery at Welshpool. Its part of the Derwen Garden Centre nearby.
Any ideas where the badgers are hiding?
Not yet Tim, early days mate👀🦡
@@simoneardley just spotted a raccoon dog near my badger sett!
I might see you in the Photo Show Simon. We’re going the same day. Take your wallet you can get good deals on gear.
Nice one Barrie, looking forward to it 👍🏼
Gill should peel spuds
@@simoneardley 😂 I’m not a morning person! Plus I’m usually too busy feeding dogs cats and a pony!
Like a pig in shite… and who wouldn’t be… Well deserved Simon..
A perfect analogy!!🤣🤣🐷
Do you see Red Kites in your area Simon?
Yeh theres quite a few knocking about. Not seen any on the ground yet Philip.
@@simoneardley get some food down and you might become a mini Gigrin

Cant wait for the next one. Btw just couldn’t believe how many hides you have……..gobsmacked.🤣
