Josh great video as always!! But as an airline pilot ( in Europe) I feel that I have to defend my Bangladesh colleague. Yes he could have made an announcement or two over the pa, BUT, with all likely hood his alternate was Johor Bahru, which is a small regional airport and more than likely was overwhelmed with diverting aircraft that night from Kuala Lumpur due to weather. So more than likely atc requested them to divert to Singapore, which is just a hop away. Now that captain, unless he was in a critical low fuel state, would have agreed. Most likely he would have taken quite a bit of extra fuel from Dhaka due to weather anyway. So from experience I know that all this would mean quite a few and hot phone calls between cockpit crew and base and handlers etc. leaving once again the PA in second place. Solid Review. Here are some Shocking information for you all. Bangladesh has about 20 Million foreign living citizens 90% of which including Myself don't want to fly Biman due to various reasons of which 'Poor behavior' tops the rank. You can buy a new plane, renovate lounges but good behavior can't be bought and installed inside the stuff. Biman must focus on attitude first then abstructure. Best of luck for Biman.❤
I flew Biman back in 1981 from Heathrow to Bangkok on a very old Boeing 707, as soon as the plane took off from LHR, the passengers took out the paraffin stoves from the overhead lockers onto the aisle floor (so the passengers could cook up their grub) which sent the crew scurrying up and down the plane telling everyone not to ignite the cookers, surely the most scariest moment of my life!
I also flew Biman, LHR to BKK via Dhaka in 1988 and had a similar flight experience. LHR to Dhaka was on a DC-10 and Dhaka to BKK on a 707 ! Additional stops at Frankfurt, Dubai and Kolkata !! It was the cheapest way to fly London to Bangkok in the mid 80s and included a one night layover in the airport hotel at Dhaka which was an added experience ! 😂😂
Josh. You should have seen the Maslin Lounge in 1999. It literally was a container with an aircon. I didn't risk the food. I asked the one guy running the show for a couple of beers. He returned and handed me a couple of cans of beer. He told me 20 USD. I said, "what". He told me I could afford it as I was flying business. Sorry, you had a bad experience. I love the crew Before the world got silly, I spent time in the jumpseat with some wonderful people. My wife was scared of flying, if she was traveling alone, they would make a point of bringing her into the cockpit to allay her fears. Love you videos my friemd.
One thing I love about you is that you are totally honest in your reviews! At least their tableware is pleasing to you. The staff seem very nice. Wow, to be diverted to another country instead of Malaysia is beyond bizarre. Weird doesn’t begin to describe what you experience. The pilot followed the wrong flight plan???? Never heard of that happening before . My gosh, what an experience. Hope your next trip is better.
Yes..One thing I despise, not just about airlines vloggers, but even food and travel vloggers is the fakeness where everything is amazing..I've stopped watching some big channels because of that..Sure there are people in the comments who take it too personally and unnecessarily might take offence but that's on them
That would be a new business model nobody has thought of. Random destination. You book a flight and don't know where you're going to land. Puts an element of suspense into travelling.
You are one of the first foreign TH-camrs to review the national flag carrier of Bangladesh. Also, Biman has been accused of corruption recently lol. I am very excited for thr Iraqi arways review!
I flew Biman airlines from London to KL, return, in the 1980s. My abiding memory was the smell of the plane interior, the food which had no non-spicy option, and included sandwiches with spicy meat in them, and the Dhaka airport. It was set amongst rice fields in those days, and I still remember the plane descending and not seeing any sign of an airport or runaway. Just when I though they were going to land in a rice field, up popped a runaway. The airport in those days consisted of a single building and we waited for a few hours in transit. A fellow passenger said that we should check to see if our suitcase had been offloaded or not as it seemed that it was quite common for them not to. We literally walked out of the transit lounge which had no security at the door, to the back of the building where our luggage had been offloaded. The place was guarded by one security guard dozing on a chair, armed with a WW2 Lee-Enfield rifle. We indicated to him that we wanted to check for our luggage, and he just waved us on, and fell back to dozing. We scrambled around a pile of luggage before finally locating ours, and then went back to the transit lounge. Wonder if it is still like that at Dhaka airport? On the return flight from KL to London, I sat in front of a group of Gurkha recruits, about a dozen or so of them. Didn't think much of them, they were quiet and polite. Next day, I read the news that a group of Gurkha recruits had been caught at Heathrow airport for trying to smuggle drugs into the UK. And yes, they were from my Biman flight :)
@@arpanabinaswar1811 They transited from Nepal in Dhaka. Biman was, and probably is, the cheapest flight from KL to London. British government doesn't splurge on Singapore Airlines or BA.
Interesting account, I too flew Biman in the 80's and I remember the guard with the Lee-Enfield rifle but this one had a bayonet attached. He challenged me as I walked up to the plane to board, poking his bayonet in my direction and accused me of having something nefarious in my hand luggage, I turned to him and said "I have nothing like that in my bag" to which he simply shrugged his shoulders and said "ok on your way" 😂
Can’t believe they didn’t have the plane smelling of Guinness and chips, and all spicy food you say, which of course in Bangladesh is just called food. It’s like an Asian person flying BA and complaining that the food had no cardamom and fenugreek. Listen to yourself ffs. Grow up.
You really can see the difference of mentality in Asia or Europe. If this would have happened in Europe there would be a riot in the plane with angry passengers. But the captain filed the wrong flightplan, that's why he didn't made any announcement, too embarrassing!
Happy memories of flying LHR-BKK via Dhakka on Biman Bangladesh in the 1980s, on their DC10s, always a good curry to eat, and the non-airconditioned terminal for a several-hours connection !
I had forgotten about the terminal aircon! It did actually have aircon it just never worked:-) Your comment reminded me of them having to clear the cattle off the runway. Those were the days!:-)
When I was flying back in 1980s this airline had quite a reputation. One that meant you avoided it at all costs. Doesn’t seem to have changed in all those years. The mention of DC10 brought back memories of the 1970s along with the 707.
When was your flight? You may have been on a flight with escaping politicians, so there's possibly the reason for the suspense. It may have been a security issue or manipulation by the ex-government officials. Please update what you have realized afterwards.
I was once on a flight from the US to Sydney and right before our descent the pilot came on, gave the typical arrival spiel etc. and then goes "Okay, here's where things could get interesting..." we ended up having to do an emergency landing due to a mechanical issue- and I should note this was about a week after that Hawaiian Airlines flight hit massive turbulence so we were ALL terrified. (I told a friend of mine who works in customer service for another airline who casually went "Oh Emergency Landing? Yeah happens all the time!" in a very chipper voice -_-)
There is no way the pilot messed up the flight plan, if its a route that is always flown by the airline, they would have a standard flight plan. They dont have aircraft's park in a far corner with a patrol car with officers sitting there unless something serious was going on, and given he was sitting at the front and did not see anything, is very suspicious.
B.A. used to advertise "We'll take more care of you". Biman should have "Get it your bloody self". On most flights I generally thought service would have improved if hijackers took over. Their safety record is actually very good. I have no idea how. I have so many tales about flying Biman because I had a miserly employer, that policy changed when he flew with them. He actually apologised to me, he thought I'd been joking or exaggerating. Never had a bad meal or got ill from the food, they nailed that. I remember the DC-10s galleys used to be crawling with cockroaches. When did it become a dry airline? Used to be able to haggle with the cabin crew over the price of a bottle champagne. Diversions, extra stops and getting grounded at airports was normal and generally accepted without comment. In fact it was expected. A friend swears blind that he was on a Biman flight that had an unexpected stop so the pilot could drop off his father-in-law. Despite the deranged chaos that was the hallmark of Biman I still retain a soft spot for them.
I remember those stairs at 2:31. Decades ago as a kid when i was travelling with my mom. We were flying on biman transiting through dhaka. Transit passengers were given a meal at a large communal dining hall which was located upstairs. We were given plain rice, a chicken leg curry and lentil soup. I dont know why but for some reason i remembered that moment.

Forget about the new terminal. When I was flying for GMG Airlines out of Dhaka, the ATC could not/would not use the ATC radar because it cost too much money to operate. Only when the Bangladesh Air Force was flying was when the ATC radar was turn ON.
Back in the 1960's the Beatles had a hit record called " The Magical Mystery Tour", this was based on coach companies that booked coach tours to unknown destinations and people were happy to pay for it. Seems to have come back!
Bangladesh, don’t get me wrong, is a nice country. And I’m an Aviation Geek, I’m gonna say that, the aviation state in Bangladesh isn’t the best. I UNDERSTAND that due to hardwork, and labors not having the chance to travel makes it reasonable.
Great video! Diversions. I have been on GF from BAH to FRA two weeks ago and we were diverted to MUC due to the protesters. We were even served drinks on the ground in MUC. The crew handled the situation very well. Four hours later we finally made it to FRA! Bests from Frank again in Najomtien, Thailand
Josh, in fairness, April 1988, I was on a BA flight that spent 6 hours on the ground at BOM, not a word from the flight deck as we waited, waited, waited to continue on to Colombo. Yes, British Airways. Frankly, I was tempted to get off, demand my bags, go into town, enjoy a nice dinner and continue on tomorrow. Eventually, we went - but why the delay?
flew on biman on their 787-9 (S2-AJX) crew were really friendly. On the flight from EGLL to VGSY there was a delay of i believe 2 hours handled very well
Great! Josh, you uncovered the true experience and you were honest. We hope your feedback will be invaluable in helping Biman Bangladesh Airlines to improve
Over 45 years ago this was the main airline from London UK to Rangoon Burma a DIRECT FLIGHT no transits. You just had to put up with screaming kids and smells. Joy of Joys.
My first ever flight way back in the late 70s was on a Philippine Airlines DC10 between LHR and MNL with stops at Rome, Karachi and Bangkok. I recall it was a comfortable and roomy plane.
My wife and I (we are Norwegians) flew with Biman in January this year(2024) from Dhaka to Singapore, the day after the election. It was part of our South east Asia roundtrip. We wisited 10 countries tok 15 flights with 11 airlines. 2 in Premium Economy (Norse Atlantic and Scoot) the other 13 in Economy. Biman was a realy good experience to us. First they came with water, then, when they served the food we got Coca Cola(or was it Pepsi) and after the meal they came with another water bottle. The food was wery good and we got more food than on anny other flight, actualy they came a second round asking if anyone wanted more food, the only time that has happend to me. Actualy it was only Gulf Air, Bahrain to Dhaka that served better food on their 787-9. The plane wasnt super clean but wasnt dirty either. and the crew was OK, like on al the other flights we took. The worst was with Scoot in Premium Economy, from Bali to Singapore. We had seat 1A and 1B this was their first and oldest 787-9 The food was not good, and wery little, what we got to drink was even less, the Wifi hardly worked and the crew mostly hide in the gally. The worst was the cleanliness. It was so dirty, the curtain to the galley looked like it had newer been washed and a lot of dirt on the wall around the curtain. The armrests where wery worne, more than I have seen on anny other plane, so i think i will awoyd Scoot in the future. Biman thoe I will gladly fly with again.
If the pilot doesn’t admit to a relatively harmless mistake, how would they react if they made a mistake that compromised safety? The lack of transparency would make me hella nervous and question the culture of the organisation.
If you are an unscheduled diversion, you will see police. The general declaration of the flight would be for KL Malaysia, not Singapore. So Singapore Immigration and police would be notified if you divert to a foreign country. The crew would have to disclose armed security on board the aircraft as well. The lack of information can be due to multiple security issues, suspicious passenger, bomb threat or something else. Bomb threats to aircraft will be isolated to a specific location away from the terminal. Sometimes withholding info (even though passengers don’t like it) it prevents chaos and panic because not everyone reacts to news the same way.
Would give Biman 3 star. Service is generally good. They have bought new planes over the years. Food on Biman is excellent.. why dod you not record when asking the crew as to what is going on? Why has the plan been diverted?
You have many subscribers in every country I have a one request to you when you go any country please meet up with those country subscribers. When you next time come Bangladesh please meet up with ours. Take love Josh ❤
You surely made the first BG 787 review but Sam has been reviewing Biman since very early of his career. He did flights on the DC10 as well. He had blogs on Biman. Nonetheless your 787 flight was epic!
Except when considering the two fine Air India lady pilots who ran dangerously low on fuel in their Airbus when they forgot to retract the gear (even noticed inability to climb and accelerate but didn't make the connection).
There's been a revolution in Bangladesh very recently. Maybe some important people from the former rulling class was on board, that's why the unexplained diversion happened
LOL, you really don't want to know. Cockroaches, overflowing toilets, bits falling of them and getting grounded at every stop (of which the were many) ahh happy days:-)
When you make a mistake and notice it, you should announce it in a way that is not going to create chaos but is going to inform those onboard. Put yourself in the passengers shoes. No matter how bad the mistake is like filing an incorrect flight plan, a better reaction to the situation would go along way. This is not shame on Biman, this is shame on the captain. Learn from this and move forward........................Great video Josh. I can't wait to see what you're going to eat on Iraqi airways but from my experience travelling to the middle east it should be tasty. Safe travels my friend!
i flew Spirit airlines here in the US last month, we were delayed due to a issue with maintenance logs. the crew kept us updated like every 15-20 mins. Now thats what you're supposed to do! A budget ULC airline did better. wow.
You are absolutely correct. The pilot made errors, in his flight plan filings as well as not informing passengers of the status. I would have been pissed.
Ty josh I was very loosely thinking maybe hmm maybe biman ,but obviously common sense kicked in. Thank you for reminding me why I don't fly biman at any price .ty taking one for the team! If U ever see you in a lounge the first round is one me haha
Josh is so lucky that everytime he boards a plane, some kind of drama is waiting for him. I have checked BG386 flight status for the past three month and this flight departed on 11 JUL is the only one that was diverted and one of the only two flights that were delayed at arrival for more than 1 hour. Besides Josh's experience, I have to say BG386 is a generally reliable and on-time flight, though certainly the pilots and the company management must have many problems.
My late father lived in Dhaka in the early 1970's. He told me a story about Biman's inaugural London flight. They hadn't got prior clearance for European airspace but set off anyway, meaning ATC in Europe had to clear a path at very short notice :) No idea if this is true or apochryphal...
Took Biman from KL to Dhaka like 15 yrs ago, I believe they only had two airplanes at the time, a 777 and something smaller, I ended up on the Boeing, we departed late at night and arrived early in the morning, the airport was a joke, and I've visited several african countries, still it was another level, fortunately I befriended a passanger and his driver took me to the right location. Funny sidenote, the flight attendants walk around in the cabin after meal service with a plate of sliced cucumber and chili's (not sliced or prepared in any way) Bangladesh was a weird trip for me, but I loosed weight over the two weeks I was there, so always something positive.
That’s the lamest excuse ever, any airline that size has a dispatch department that handles all flight plans filing, pilots have nothing to do with that. There was definitely something shady about that flight landing at Singapore but wrong flight plan was not it.

That's probably true ESPECIALLY the "Aunties" !! 😂😂😂😂
Nah, just train the staff. take reviews and opinions from customer seriously. it's that easy.
Wow. Your expat population is bigger than my country 's population within and without its borders! That is crazy
I doubt this, how would paraffin even be let on board a flight departing LHR
@@nozislammind you it was 1981! Before 9/11 there were little restrictions honestly

He is always honest. He is not Sam Chui.
But KL and SIN are right next to each other, because SIN is literally just a city. So it is always a possible alternate in aviation when flying to KL
@@lucasa.quiroga1246 Agreed. Sam is as fake as they come.
Wait a Second Gurkhas in Bangladesh?? Wtf ??
@@arpanabinaswar1811 They transited from Nepal in Dhaka. Biman was, and probably is, the cheapest flight from KL to London. British government doesn't splurge on Singapore Airlines or BA.
Interesting account, I too flew Biman in the 80's and I remember the guard with the Lee-Enfield rifle but this one had a bayonet attached. He challenged me as I walked up to the plane to board, poking his bayonet in my direction and accused me of having something nefarious in my hand luggage, I turned to him and said "I have nothing like that in my bag" to which he simply shrugged his shoulders and said "ok on your way" 😂
@@walking_in_the_shade 😂
Can’t believe they didn’t have the plane smelling of Guinness and chips, and all spicy food you say, which of course in Bangladesh is just called food.
It’s like an Asian person flying BA and complaining that the food had no cardamom and fenugreek.
Listen to yourself ffs. Grow up.
My god Josh really knows how to play the algorithm game 😂
It's nice to see the crew members say hello. They are proud to connect their face with the carrier they work for.
You really can see the difference of mentality in Asia or Europe. If this would have happened in Europe there would be a riot in the plane with angry passengers. But the captain filed the wrong flightplan, that's why he didn't made any announcement, too embarrassing!

I had forgotten about the terminal aircon! It did actually have aircon it just never worked:-) Your comment reminded me of them having to clear the cattle off the runway. Those were the days!:-)
I used to get a "free" layover at the airport hotel in Dhaka with my LHR to BKK Biman ticket in 1988. 😂😂

I From Bangladesh.Thank you for your Honest review
They dont have aircraft's park in a far corner with a patrol car with officers sitting there unless something serious was going on, and given he was sitting at the front and did not see anything, is very suspicious.
considering the political situation in Bangladesh, probably some politician discretely fleeing the country.
B.A. used to advertise "We'll take more care of you".
22:45 Yes, the trains in KLIA is under renovation and replacement bus is being used until construction completes. The buses will be there for a while.

You spotted a 44 yr old B747-200 at 8:50 and the _beast_ you flew on from DXB.
Great ! You finally travelled with Biman Bangladesh, again. I think it must be the 2nd time of yours

Over 45 years ago this was the main airline from London UK to Rangoon Burma a DIRECT FLIGHT no transits. You just had to put up with screaming kids and smells. Joy of Joys.
Yes, I flew Biman from London to Rangoon (Burma) in 1988 but I had to fly first to Bangkok, then BKK to RGN ! Happy Days ! 👍
My first ever flight way back in the late 70s was on a Philippine Airlines DC10 between LHR and MNL with stops at Rome, Karachi and Bangkok. I recall it was a comfortable and roomy plane.
the skytrain at KLIA was working but then it was broken due to it being old so it will be reopened in 2025
My wife and I (we are Norwegians) flew with Biman in January this year(2024) from Dhaka to Singapore, the day after the election.
Thank you ❤️
If the pilot doesn’t admit to a relatively harmless mistake, how would they react if they made a mistake that compromised safety? The lack of transparency would make me hella nervous and question the culture of the organisation.
If this was filmed this past week, you might've been on the flight which the former president of Bangladesh left the country on.😂
That's OK. Their flight to Singapore ended up in Malaysia.
Hey man love your videos 👍
Good you left Bangaldesh before the turmoil.
How do you file the wrong flight plan? SIN and KUL arent even spelled closely similar.
Coolest thing about this airline is that they were the world's last operator of passenger dc-10!
Welcome to Dhaka🇧🇩✈️💝💝
You know that Pilot was so embarrassed that he didn’t even announce the issue

There's been a revolution in Bangladesh very recently. Maybe some important people from the former rulling class was on board, that's why the unexplained diversion happened
I can remember when Biman flew DC10s what a experience that would of been
LOL, you really don't want to know.

Biman has a Monopoly on certain routes into Bangladesh & also all flights including internal Start or End in Dhaka airport which is in the capital
Do you think he planned it, maybe he told them to change the flight plan
@@bardo0007 I didn't say that. And I think the diversion has nothing to do with Josh. Maybe he is just lucky to experience and film it.
Tbf to your colleagues, I met my good buddy Sam Chui for the first time literally onboard a Biman DC-10 in 2011 (Abu Dhabi to Chittagong)
I wouldn’t take that airline. Thanks for sharing.
My late father lived in Dhaka in the early 1970's. He told me a story about Biman's inaugural London flight. They hadn't got prior clearance for European airspace but set off anyway, meaning ATC in Europe had to clear a path at very short notice :) No idea if this is true or apochryphal...
That's not a flight plan issue - it's probably someone onboard the flight that they didn't want entering Malaysia
Last time I flew into KL I also got my own bus to the terminal. Due to being the only passenger on the flight!
Probably a High value package was dropped off in Singapore and the pilot just didnt have any credible alibi to tell to the passengers.
I dont think thats even possible to go wrong like that. Something else was going on.
I like the video so much Josh Well done
