It's honestly really funny to see the exact point where GFL's goes absolutely ballistic. Operation Cube was only 8k words for the entire story event meanwhile Mirror Stage is a goddamn 160k+ word count Novel. You go from a regular mobile game short story to Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers.
One of my favorite aspects is that all Dolls are free. You can farm them, you can craft them, or get rewarded them. No pay x amount of USD for units here. Even Sangvis dolls I've gotten quite a few without spending anything, like Sharkitect, which is still ongoing. Farmed premium currency is almost exclusively used to buy infrastructure, outfits, furniture and rings.
doubt your review at first due to other videos of yours, but after watching, I'm happy that we finally got a GFL vid from a dedicated player instead of some "first impression" bullsh what I mean is, good vid, totally agreed, hope to see more
GFL is the 1st gacha I ever played. It's too much of a time drain for me to continue and IDK how to describe where I stopped... I guess it was maybe only 4 chapters after the 1st boss, Scarecrow I've also played Honkai for a short while and Genshin from day 1 to 2.0 hour 1. I don't have the psyche needed for time drain games Still though, I nostalgia hardest for GFL. Building characters feels so emotionally investive. The industrial art style of this game is too 10/10 ♡
I dabbled back in, I quit just before singularity came out but had a pretty strong roster prepared for it, just ran out of time. Back in I was able to progress a lot but it is definitely a slog, especially those cryptic puzzle maps, running a guide on the side most of the time is quite tedious if you want to clear everything quick to get those story slides.
I tried to give a shot to GFL back in the days. I liked the design of girls and potential deepness of strategic layout, but hasn't been able to really experience it. The main problem was when I hit the grindwall on already.. like, second day of playing? It's still was an early game, so not much room for any tactics or team compositions, means the only option that I seen (maybe I overlooked something, idk) is to farm for leveling up my T-dolls. And that really threw me off. Also wasn't that impressed by "F2P friendliness" from the game. Bunch of slots for different essential things are locked by premium currency at the start. (Which can be obtained at slow pace, but still) Not enough repair slots so I can't even repair full squad of 5 girls at once, while they needs repair after every battle. Not enough of squad slots (or whatever that was) which is slows down grind once again. Basically, I had a feeling that game holds player just too much from the beginning, not letting progress faster. And there are were some "underwater rocks", potential new player mistakes that can slow your progress even further. Like, to not burn your cores (or what was it) on T-dolls or you screwed. Such things made guides almost essential, which is also tuned down excitement from experimenting on your own. Overall, I don't think that this is a bad game. But I think it is that type of game where grind matter more than skill, which I don't like. Maybe I got wrong first expression and maybe things for newbies got better as the time passed. Yet for now, it is how it is.
skill issue. jk i agree the game has an onboarding new players problem and don't think they've bothered to improve it either. things called HOCs are a thing now that I also feel over timegates new players (though gameplay wise they are a great addition). so pretty sure if anything the new player onboarding is worse then when you probably first tried it ;) in terms of f2p friendliness and feeling limited on resources i suppose thats case but hard for me to recall the early stages of the game tbh. i will say as an endgame player for both girls frontline and arknights (the other gacha game i like and have good amount of time in) its way easier for me to obtain, level, and then use newly obtain units i get from girls frontline. i would argue you have a wrong first impression of the game but that is the game's fault for having crappy onboarding experience.

I've played both and they aren't that similar besides having anime girls with guns honestly. Blue archive is a bit more autoplay and casual, though there is strategy for sure, and girls' frontline is a bit more time consuming if new and "nerdy" if get into its metagame more.

honestly Genshin's story isn't bad and there's moments when it surprises me. It's just brought down by garbage-tier dialogue that's so badly written it makes me want to skip everything. In contrast, the dialogue in GFL is probably the best part of its writing (excluding night chapters, ugh). You get character and plot development in almost every conversation and there's usually tension between characters that work together.

You stoped at the most boring part of the story, first 5-6 chapters are cringe writing at it's worst, but then it gets REALLY good.
