There are many places in Sri Lanka called 'Lokanthaya' which have beautiful mountain peaks and Navgala or Hulangala mountain peak is a tourist destination with such a doomsday. The ancients also referred to this hill as "Navgala" with two peaks that look like a sailboat from a distance.
Hulangala is located in the southern part of the Knuckles Range in the Salagama Estate in the Kurunegala District. Although the top of the Hulangala hill is located on the border of the Kurunegala district, the lower part of the slope belongs to the Matale district. Therefore, it is possible to reach this beautiful place from Kurunegala or Matale.
Hulangala Punchi Lokantha is located at an altitude of 760m (2500 ft) above sea level and Hulangala Kanda on the right is 1025m (3360 ft) above sea level.
If coming by vehicle, you can reach Hulangala by traveling from Kurunegala to Dambulla towards Thalgodapitiya Junction and following Yatawatta Road. Hulangala is about 40km away from Kurunegala and mountaineers can also cross Hulangala from Maduragoda in Kurunegala. But if you are traveling at night, it is not advisable to use that route.
If you use Google Map to visit here you should mark "Yatawatta Weeraparakrama Secondary School" as your destination and you can reach Salagama by turning around that school. Otherwise, if you use Hulangala as your destination and use Google Map, you are more likely to get lost.
If you travel here using public transport, you can reach the Matale bus stand, take a two-lane Matale bus, get off the bus and start the Hulangala climb on foot.
This hilltop is located at the edge of a private estate called Selagama Estate, so when entering the estate. If you are going to camp at the end of the world by car, you have to get a ticket for around Rs. 2000 and a ticket for Rs. 50 for a motorbike.
If you use a slightly higher 4 Ã- 4 vehicle for the journey, your journey will be easier and you can reach the end of the world and the rocky outcrop after a distance of about 3km through a beautiful tea garden.
Just as you will have the opportunity to experience the beauty of a misty mountain top, you will have the opportunity to visit many places such as the North Western Province, the Central Province as well as the Knuckles Mountains, Bisogala, Dolukanda, Silver Temple and Rambadagalla on a clear weather day.
Another experience you will get on this trip is the opportunity to enjoy the beauty from the top of a beautiful waterfall the day after camping at night. That waterfall is called "Yatawatta Biso Falls".
