  • Sharing our opinion of the Alu-Cab Gen 3.1 Tent and 270 Shadow Degree Awning. There's a lot of things we LOVE about the this roof top tent but also a few things we would/have changed and modified. We have spent plenty of comfy nights in and looking forward to plenty more! If you're in the market to buy a roof top tent then this video is for you!
    Enjoy legends!!

    Love the convenience of the rooftop tent and how much quicker it is to set up and put away compared to the traditional tent set up

    Nice review on that awning! I have the same one and if anyone is interested I did a pretty cool video about a DIY LED light upgrade to all of the awning arms - and this could be applied to any awning, not just Alucab. Your review was spot on, thanks for sharing.

    I like the review you have made, really thanks and looking for more from your channel guys. Is the roof tent can be mount in any type of 4x4 car?
    Thnx in advance

      Hi Kareem, this style of roof top tent is very heavy so I would not say you could mount it to any type, what vehicle do you have?

    Hi guys. Interesting vid. How did you connect the light strip? Did you have to drill any holes? Thank you

    • @outnaboutexplorers2103
      @outnaboutexplorers2103  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! It has 3M tape on it and we just used adhesive with the extra mounting parts instead of drilling and pop riveting.

      @@outnaboutexplorers2103 thank you for your reply. And how did you get the light connected to the battery?

    • @outnaboutexplorers2103
      @outnaboutexplorers2103  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@viajesjaipurofficial I have a lead that i hard-wired to the battery under all the drawers etc and it just sits inside the window and I connect it whenever I want the light turned on. HINT If you are putting a light in make sure you use a dimmer switch they're great!

      @outnaboutexplorers2103 when we had our roof top tent, that was one thing that annoyed us. The ALU Cab looks so much easier to pack up than our last one though 🤣

    Hey Guys, appreciate the vid. What roof racks are you running to secure the RTT. I have fibreglass canopy and strength kit but want to get the right roof rack set up for this tent.

      Hey Hey! This is a custom made setup and to hold the tent on top of this canopy and not something you can buy. If you DM us on our socials would be happy to share photos

    I noticed an unusual method of folding away the 270 awning. Was this method from experience or direct instructions from alucab ?

    • @outnaboutexplorers2103
      @outnaboutexplorers2103  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great pickup! Alu-Cab instructions do not state how to roll it back up I have just noticed if I bring all the canvas to the front and roll it up the canvas has nothing to rub on during transit. So while it might take me an extra 15 seconds to move all the canvas to the front as I go, it should ensure I get the maximum life out of the canvas with no tears or wears marks from rough corrugations we do.

    Wow, you guys have the Alucab mounted to both the cap and the cab. Is this not a bad idea given the flex in the two separate parts of the vehicle?

    • @outnaboutexplorers2103
      @outnaboutexplorers2103  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Matt, this is our old setup it was like it for years with no problems. Note: It wasn't mounted to the cab, it was only mounted to the canopy and just rested on the roof bar with no fixings, still allowing flex but taking some weight

    Looks pretty cool. Can't you enter and exit from the back opening? These are great but are not for everyone. 1. They cost a ton of $$$$ some well into the $4000 USD range and 2. they add a lot of weight up top that isn't so good when you are doing some tough trails. 3. without exception they will cut down on your MPG quite a lot. I guess everything has trade-off for the positive things. What is the weight on that anyway?

    • @outnaboutexplorers2103
      @outnaboutexplorers2103  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it's a great-looking tent! Yes Nigel you can enter from either side or the rear but because of our awning setup we enter from the side.
      Completely agree these are not for everyone and that's the idea of the video, just to show what our personal thoughts on the tent are. :)
      Yes the AUD of these are in excess of $6000. But coming from a traditional style fold out with a bag on top tent. The Alu-Cab has been worth every cent, for us.
      They're 80kgs which is a lot of weight up on the roof yes. So if you're doing some challenging trials you would want to make sure it's mounted very well.
      I didn't notice the fuel consumption go up any higher from my previous style roof top tent.

    • @Majestic1987
      @Majestic1987 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coming from a traditional RTT, the Alucab is worth every penny. It is not much more expensive than other hardshell tents but much more functional due to material and construction (e.g. you can put stuff on top of it). And the main benefit is the quick setup and tear down. This only matters if you switch places very often but then it really is a game changer.
      And to be honest, fuel consumption is not so badly increased by the tent. Chunky offroad tires are much worse than the tent. But I have to admit that I do not drive faster than around 120 km/h. Above that you begin to really notice.

    What solar panel is fitted ?

    • @outnaboutexplorers2103
      @outnaboutexplorers2103  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Trent, In this video we just have 1 x 130w panel. Cheap online one from Sunyee. Value for money they're great but we have recently upgraded to 2 x 130w as we had the room and it struggled in summer with a 40l fridge and a 65l fridge/freezer. We will be doing a video shortly to go over our full dual battery/solar system so if you subscribe to the channel you won't miss it! :)
