    You could actually have a humvee with all the extra's in it, sound dampening, AC/Heat nice sound systems, heated/cooled seats that are comfortable (like a regular vehicle) it's just going to be really expensive. Of course you could always add those things to yours for a price, but it would be cheaper to do it all yourself. I've been toying with getting one of these (been watching the auctions at gov planet) and fixing it up. But I don't have a shop, or even a garage where I could do all the work, so I've held off. Love how yours looks, turned out really good.

    dude, I am from IRAQ. Soooo into humvee's since I was in Iraq. I bought a humvee and working on it and yes, Humvee community people were sooooo mean to me when I did a meetup with them. I felt like I stole something from them by buying a Humvee with my own money. I didn't see the kind welcoming when they knew I was from Iraq. Yes, I live in TN as well lol. but still have my humvee and i'm enjoying it so much and saving money to buy a 2nd one. I am happy to see a video talking truly about the Humvee community and truly speaking about it. Thank you for this video dude.

      Thanks Murtadha! I think you will find that the best people to show your Humvee are just everyday normal people that you meet while driving it around. At least that's how it was for me.
      It's absolutely ridiculous that anyone from that meetup treated you badly because you came from Iraq, but a lot of these guys unfortunately like to pretend that owning a Humvee makes them some kind of domestic soldier and I guess they didn't want a middle easterner to be a part of their club.
      Clearly you are an American just like they are, doesn't matter if you are first generation from Iraq or 4th generation from Germany, we all need to treat each other with respect! Don't let them bring you down man and I hope you enjoy your Humvee(s)!!

    I got to drive one for 4 years in the Marines. The only problem I ever had with HMMWVs were they are easy to high center, and Boots run them in the ground! I'm not kidding. My job in the Corps was that of a 3536, basically I drove tow trucks. I have seen them anywhere from between buried in a tank rut so just the roof was showing, too trees shoved through the floor boards. Boots are hell on them because they are trying to make them do things they can't do, and don't have to pay to repair them. Well they think if I break it doing this I won't have to pay cash to fix this, but Staff Sergeant is going to kill me lol.

    Hi I used to have a 1999 H1 (AM General Hummer before GM bought it). It was the HMCS - the wagon version. I owned it for 5 years, went on outings with the folks from the Hummer club and generally had a great time, but with time I sort of moved on mentally from owning the Hummer. They're nice and all but to be honest I am pretty darn happy with owning a nice Jeep Wrangler rubicon these days. I've thought of buying a HMMWV a few times as a second offroad vehicle but every time I had enough money to justify I found myself wandering away and buying something else such as a corvette, viper, etc. The problem with H1s today is that they are all just collectors items. They've been out of production since 2006. Anyone who owns one today and wheels the crap out of it is essentially destroying it's future resale value. I mean it's up to the person who does it but paying out that much money for an H1 for little future value seems kind of dumb. It's a shame that we can't have them anymore. I personally never had any problems with the Hummer community, but your mileage was different. Best of luck with your Jeep!

I experienced probably more love than what the enthusist had to say. Overall, the build made the car better than stock for many obvious reasons. You can search Diablo with LS3, people will always have their opinions likable or not. Thanks man and that's a very good point. There is a certain appeal of the rugged feel of a military vehicle I think for both civilians (like me) who never got to experience it as well as veterans who have become familiar with the vehicle and like to relive the experience of driving one (although many veterans I talk to absolutely hate Humvees). For me I have always been a car/motorcycle guy. I like history and military history in particular, but I am not very interested in military vehicles and never have been. The Humvee was a chance for me to own an H1 without paying H1 prices and I enjoyed it a ton.

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Personally this is not the approach I would take because sellers tend to apply a $5000 - $10,000 markup just for making their Humvee street legal.
      While this process is tedious and time consuming, its not very expensive, probably well under $2000 in most cases.
      Even non street legal Humvees are often marked up a few thousand dollars from private sellers just to capture a sales opportunity from people who are afraid of using Govplanet or don't want to bother with the EUC, arranging shipment, etc.
      However, I understand your point of view and pondered going that route myself initially, but ultimately came to the decision of using Govplanet since buying from a private party didn't meet my needs and make as much logical sense for me.

    I do watch your videos and i am considering buying a humvee. I see them now being sold for around 19k and above. I live in NJ and originally from Pennsylvania and know people that have them. Always wanted one since the 80's.. i am not worried about AC just concerned about the heat functioning. Although i am a upholsterer i was considering putting a heated seat on drivers side only... something to think about. What is your opinion on that?
    Sound deadening material. Any ideas on sound proofing the interior?
    My requirements are a hardtop, hard doors and the 6.5 w/park.

    • @Kevin24Seven
      @Kevin24Seven  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike, all very valid and good questions here.
      Heat- I do not have experience with the latest gen Humvees (the ones with the guppy looking grille that juts out) but my Humvee and others do not have the best heaters. The heater core is small and the blower motor is mediocre at best. Better insulation would help you stay warm vs what I had which was a soft top and no insulation. It was comfortable for highway travel down to about 30 degrees or so.
      Adding a heated seat- Keep in mind the Humvee uses a 24v system. The A2 gen trucks and newer should have a dual voltage alternator... so it would potentially be okay to tap off just one battery (I forget if front or rear so you will need to research) to get a 12v source that your alternator in theory should maintain a balance when it sense the one battery getting lower than the other. You could also just add a step down converter and not worry about balance issues.
      Sound deadening can certainly be added, and if you are an upholster then you should already know what you are doing. The Humvees usually do come with some carpeting which helps a bit. I threw mine away because it was trashed and not fun to clean but if you are not swamping it this shouldn't be an issue. I think what you come up with will probably be better than the stock carpeting regardless especially if you add dynamat or something.
      Roof, Hard Top, Hard Doors- These can all be bought aftermarket if you like but it is somewhat pricey and will require painting to match. If you look for OEM hard doors and top you are going to be spending a lot more. 19k sounds about right to meet your requirements OEM, but I could see it costing closer to 25k especially for a low miles/ low abuse unit. The hard top Humvees are highly desirable and you almost certainly will be competing against a lot of other bidders if buying from GovPlanet.

    • @mikeb8613
      @mikeb8613 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kevin24Seven Thank you for a great response! Things to think about. The humvee i am looking at has a hard top, hard doors, matte black and it is a 92 with a 6.5ish with park.they are asking 19k and i am sure there is wiggle room. I guess my concerns are the heat and staying warm. I only have to drive 3.1 miles to work one way so MPG is not my issue. It is already titled and legal in Pennsylvania. Glad that part is done.

The hard top and hard doors is a great value if those are the original military parts and I would say jump on that right away. If they are aftermarket aluminum that is still a reasonable deal if the Humvee has been gone through and made reliable. I have not heard of Jeff Daniels.

    I also get the humvee/h1 part. I loved usin the humvee when i still wore the uniform but after 2 days straight and in the heat/cold it wasnt pleasant. While havin all the comforts of a modern vehicle would have made it nothin but a joy.

The H1 has all that junk between the driver and the passenger that is hard to touch hands with wife or girlfriend, plus more electronic parts to worry about. Trust me Humvees are very easy to work on. My job in the military was 11Bravo, but I worked on my Humvee before taking it to the shop. In the shop all they did was replace parts, they didn’t fix parts. If you maintain your Vehicle you will not have major issues with it. In the military we have issues with them because you have to ride in it with all your battle gear and there is not enough space, specially for the driver.
