Here it is 2023 and Dr. Heiser has gone to be with our Lord but his work is still teaching us. This podcast with David Burnett re The Resurrection (body and so much more) and the way he connected so many "dots" of scripture helped to make it so much more understandable. It's so true that if we don't understand the context and the OT references we can just read right past it and never grasp it.
Thank you again to Houseform Apologetics for posting this entire grouping of The Naked Bible Podcast. I'm working my way through and must be at least 1/2 way through! Thank you again. I've learned so much. God bless you all and may Dr. Heiser's work go on in time for all who want to learn.

Wow great program, it really helps to understand how it connects with the days of Noah (Mat 24) the Sons of God and their seed was on the earth and they are judged and destroyed. In the same manner, once again, when the seed of the evil one rules in the earth destruction will fall (again) on them, as 2 Pe says “For this they willingly are ignorant … the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished…But the heavens and the earth, … are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men”, I can see how all fits with the typology and have great encouragement with Enoc that “ was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God" (Heb11:5 )previous to all that

I love it when something is verified! Makes so much sense. One question
He compared Abrams seed to the stars...AND the sand of the sea. Hebrews says the sand innumerable. So why did you say the number wasn't mentioned? Or was that just for the star reference... Also I am led to believe that not only would this be saying we would join with YHWH'S innumerable host... Could also be saying that our new forms will be divine indeed like the elohim but also distinct as we were made from the dust of the earth. Or the sand on the beach. The last thing wouldn't upset me if I'm off on that... It kinda popped into my head as I contemplated this.

The mountain narrative which has its pinnacle of the cross. Time and space split where mercy and justice kissed. And the light of the world died. Salvation bought through the demonstration of God's love which will never be lost, seen in this act, which will ripple forever down through the ceaseless unrolling of eternity.

Little help here. If one subscribes to Heiser et. al. 's view of principalities and powers and that gentiles worshipped demons as gods, how can you account for places like Rev 9:20 and others which described idols as innefectual, mute and dead?

    • @shemmen1488
      @shemmen1488 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It's our common view on "idols" that makes it difficult to understand. The objects used for worship were innefectual, mute and dead as objects. It's people's beliefs and rituals attached to them that was real idolatry. Pagan practices carved those objects and pierced them as part of a ritual so the spirits of those demons can inhabit them. Those objects were vehicles for the false gods to keep people under their power.

The problem is, though, that most of Western Christianity has neglected and thus forgotten nearly all of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and its critical importance for rightly handling the New Testament and its theology. For the most part, Western Christians appeal to the HB/OT only sporadically, typically whike doing apologetics (e.g., when they want to defend a Young Earth view of a literal 7-day creation, when defending the nature and legitimacy of prophecy, etc.). But the actual _substance_ of the HB/OT---its text, cultural backgrounds, history, and theology---are usually swept away and ignored altogether.
That is finally beginning to change, and I thank God it is! It is a longtime coming, and still has a very long way to go. It's also why I am so deeply grateful for men and scholars like John Walton, Michael Heiser, N.T. Wright, John Goldingay, Pete Enns, etc. They don't all agree on everything all the time, but they all _do_ stress that we should give the HB/OT and/or Second Temple Judaism their right and proper place in New Testament studies.

    And Romans 8 -
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that[h] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

    TIE IT WITH CREATION.
WE ARE THE STARS CHRIST IS THE GREAT LIGHt, who gave the lesser light it's light to reflect. He made the stars also.
Who will be on the sea of glass in Revelation. No evening and morning because there is no more night. Because we are with the Great Light always, where ever he goes. And He shall be our light.
We go to heaven to judge before the death of sin at the end of the milennium.
All fallen remain on earth at the day of the Lord. And are destroyed at the return of the husband man with his bride in the Holy city from heaven. The judgement of their destruction shown as they encompass the new Jerusalem. Cementing their fate before the eyes of God's people. Sinner and fallen angel alike. As CHRIST sets foot on on the Mt. And the ransomed stand on the wall utterly astonished.
The judgement comes after the 1000 years. All men are in heaven with Christ if daved. Or destroyed at His appearing. The lost aren't raised until the end. Satan and his minion are stuck on a desolate earth. No men to tempt. The saved are raised at His appearing and go with Him to see the books. After the 1000 years they descend and the dead lost are resurrected. Satan rallies them to attack the city and before they can touch the saved they are judged and destroyed forever.
We are the stars, children of Abraham, He knows them all by name.

Splitting is looking good when it comes to resurrection. The saved at his appearing. Lost dead, stay dead. The living lost, die. Until the end of millennium. Then they are raised and encompass the holy city and Satan gathers the lost who are newly Resurrected. And He touches the Mt of Olives and destroys the lost, sin, and death.

In the book of Hosea, God's people, The Northern Kingdom, were cut off from God. They essentially became gentiles, called by God, "not my people".
They were scattered into all the world, worshiping gentile Gods, forgetting who they were, and multiplying, as the sands of the sea.
Though they forgot, God did not/does not forget who they actually are.
He has sought us, His lost sheep of Israel, and brought many of us back into His Church. We, when we heard the Gospel, ran into God's arms, to Jesus our LORD.
After The Church is gone, raptured up, many of the lost sheep of Northern Israel, (There are also some Jews who are lost, not knowing who they are.) will remain, to suffer through the tribulation, not yet, at least at the beginning, saved. Some will survive, and endure until the end.
At the end of the tribulation they will be gathered back into the land of Israel, to be called once again, right in Israel, the same place that they were declared "not my people" by God, "my people" by God.
What does it mean "Many are called, but few are chosen"? Who are the many called? Why are they the called, while some may not be?
The called are those of the offspring of Abraham, therefore inheriting the promises of Abraham. The chosen of them, the called, are those of his offspring, eligible for salvation by the promises to him, who actually get saved.
The two sticks of Ezekiel will finally be one, under one Shepherd.
Jesus is The Seed of Abraham. But still, the promises are also to the progeny of Abraham. Not unlike how the Jews, his physical progeny are heirs to Abraham's promises, so is the lost, scattered, presently "not my people" House of Israel, or Northern Israel, still eligible for the promises to Abraham, through that one Spiritual seed, Jesus.

Does anyone know what David Burnett meant by the word (he pronounced as): "p-nef-ma"?
He uses this at different times. The last being at 1:23:44 with "the seed of pnefma."
It appears he might be mispronouncing 'pneuma'. Am I missing something?

Consider this, scholars say theclause on day 4 in Genesis " ...seems to be added later by a scribe."
    THAT IS
    "....He made the stars also..."
The Great Light was seen on earth THEN the true stars were made. The moon reflects the light of the sun and is is a forerunner to the sun. Evening first, then morning. And then the stars are created. In the midst of the week. (BOTH AND)

    • @psalm.40
      @psalm.40 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The moon is clearly stated as "lesser" than the sun; but, there's more biblical evidence of the moon emitting it's own light rather than reflecting that of the sun.
Gen. 1:14 - And God said, “Let there be lights [plural] in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night.
Gen. 1:16 - And God made the TWO great lights-the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night
Then, of course, there's the books of Enoch; which go much more in depth on this matter. Whether or not you trust those writings tho is another topic.

    • @timothythompson7388

Psalm 40 while I see your point, if that were the case then how would an eclipse function ?? Would the light of the moon not be seen rather than being overcome by the earth’s shadow ??
I trust the word of God above all else and this straight literal reading in English raises questions, I will have to study this more & look into original as written meanings to see if there are explanations there.
Could it not also be read to mean that the object (moon / sun) will “provide” light during those time frames mentioned (night / day) it doesn’t have to mean that both objects actually generate the light but that they are the objects that God has designated to provide the light during the appointed times.
It is also interesting that the Bible says in several places that “the sun shall be darkened & the moon will not give forth light”
This is not “exact quotes” however it always says the “sun” will basically be turned off & then the moon will give no light, could this not be read to mean that once the sun is switched off the moon cannot function ??? It never says the moon will be “turned off” it always seems to indicate that the dominant power is the sun.
Anyway, like I said I will have to really study this more because you got me interested in this and I try (as much as possible) to clarify / answer everything that I am unsure of in Gods word

    • @psalm.40

@@timothythompson7388 i dont wanna sound like i have all the cut and dry answers, because i dont. But, it's definitely worth digging into. I've been down this rabbit hole, with my biblical eyes, for about 6 years now and I've raised more questions for myself than answers. What i do know, cut and dry, is that mainstream cosmology is full of several holes and fallacies. A theory i heard more recently is: the moon is made of a phosphorus-type rock. Like glow in the dark toys, it absorbs the light of the sun, then emits it back out. In case you couldn't tell, im convinced that the traditional globe model, the idea of countless galaxies in an ever-expanding universe, and billions of years being applied into all this is all hogwash. A deception. Telling people that im a "flat earther" is like telling an atheist that im a Christian. They get preconceived (false) notions of what that actually means, because of what the mainstream world has told them about people like me. Nasa is absolutely just like every other acronym agency: secretive, deceptive, and born from sinister roots (occultic roots, in nasa's case). Anyone who looks hard enough, and cross references nasa's own info against itself, will see they are not credible. I too trust God's Word above all else, and He tells us to trust no man. He says many will be decieved and led astray. A huge faith crusher for many people is the possibility of extraterrestrial life. So, ultimately, faith in nasa's words cause lack of faith in God's Word. Im starting to ramble now lol sorry. I love talking biblical cosmology though. May the Most High bless you with His divine discernment.

Romans 1 is telling you "God did history by what He made each day is how he would act in history each 1000 year period. Just look at the narrative. Iys all over the bible. It is a fact.

I appreciate Dave Burnett's study but he comes across cocky, arrogant and unless you believe what he does or are a scholar your not respected by him. Not a fan of that...

I take exception to your assertion. I think Dave is really passionate about his work and I can tell you from past experience that he is accessible and kind. I sent him an email asking for some additional information and his response was immediate. Why would he be wishy-washy about his opinions when he works so hard in his research?

Lets just say, God uses us as He sees fit. Flaws and all. I love what he has discovered and see how it meshes with all the other things Dr Michael Heiser has brought to light. We need each and everyone in the Body of Christ.

He came across to me as _none_ of those things. He sounded very passionate and excited, but not at all cocky and arrogant. And why would he not respect scholars when he himself _is_ one, attends and presents at scholarly meetings, and is in constant communication with others?
So, I wholeheartedly disagree with your estimation of this passionate brother in Christ who is doing some amazing research and synthesis of ideas for the betterment of the church.
