I was happy to see you suggest vinegar instead of fabric softener. I’ve done this for many years. I’ve always thought fabric softeners were a huge marketing scam. I put the vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser.
I’ve been using vinegar and baking soda in my washer for years because I was to cheap to buy fabric softener. Lol. I recently started washing all of my clothes in cold water and in the evening and noticed my electricity bill has gone down. Thanks for another informative and educational video Brittany, you’re the best. ❤
1. Using too much laundry detergent 2. Don't use Dryer Sheets & Fabric Softner - Alt. Dryer Balls, Distilled White Vinegar 3. Washing Laundry on Hot (only for extremely soiled clothes) 4. Wash new clothes before washing 5. Letting a stain dry (soak it up) dishwasher 6. Rub stain vigorously 7. Sun is the natural bleaching agent 8. Overstuffing your washer (three quarters) 9. Not cleaning washing machine 10. Not sorting properly That's all I noted. 😅
I have been trying for a while to convince a loved one to stop using too much soap and softener but he is unwilling to change. His child has rashes from the laundry. I have allergic reactions to soap and I know less soap is better. Vinegar is a good cleaning solution for many things...
Thanks Brittany. I’m happy to say I’m already doing most of these correctly. I also use the color catchers in every load (except towels). I’ve used vinegar in the rinse cycle for years and years. Just put it in the fabric softener dispenser. It does NOT leave a smell and it also helps get detergent residue off of your laundry. The sun also works fantastic on white cutting boards that have become discolored over the years by fruits and veggies. Just lay them outside on a towel or cloth and let the sun do it’s bleaching. It’s amazing. For badly stained ones, I leave them outside for a couple of days. 😊
I’ve heard that With vinegar in the washing machine, when you use it on top on soap it does not Get all the dirt out. I put the vinegar in the fabric softener compartment so it will get used after the soap.
I wash everything except towels and sheets on delicate cycle, never use fabric softener or dryer sheets. I also hang dry everything I can. Makes a huge difference! Great tips girl, keep up the great work! 💗💗
Hey Amy. I have started hang drying more laundry items and you are correct, it does makes a difference. My fitted clothes do not stretch and colors do not fade! Plus laundry takes less time to complete.
In nursing school in 97 we were told never wash anything in hot water!! Hot water sets stains. I wash everything in cold water everything!!! I raised 4 girls and I can honestly say I can get about any stain out.I dry my towels sheets etc but I hardly dry anything of mine!! Jeans yes but not all the way. Never suppose to dry bras so I don’t dry any under clothes tank tops active wear most of these items dry so fast & colors stay true longer fabric looks better.. I have raised my kids now & they are raising theirs so I no longer have the laundry monster at my house!!! There are 2 of us & I do a half a load if I have one bc if I see whole loads I still get overwhelmed to this day!!! I’m so happy I don’t have all that massive laundry anymore!!! Good video Brittany!! As usual I always watch bc I don’t want to miss anything!! I send your videos to ppl all the time!! They love them!!
Fabric softener+dryer sheets are the😈Lol! AND, using LESS detergent will change your life! I’d even recommend using 3/4 less than suggested. I also discovered using warm water, NOT cold (hot for towels etc) works way better because it helps activate the detergent so it can properly do it’s job. Most of the time I don’t have to use vinegar or dryer balls because appropriate amount+activation of the soap not only helps it clean better, but it rinses away instead of clinging to the fabric and holding the dirt hostage (making the clothes stiff). Don’t get me wrong though, I’m still a huge fan of vinegar (especially for fabric softener)! It’s an absolute essential for doing laundry. I’d also recommend keeping some oxygen bleach (not chlorine bleach) on hand. It’s great for certain stains or types of clothing, ie: Athletic wear(stretchy fabric /spandex). This fabric hates water and loves oil (body oil traps bacteria and sweat) so oxygen bleach coupled w/detergent works wonders. It’s also good for juice/wine stains. Now, if I have a ketchup, bbq/condiment stain,..that’s when I’d reach for the vinegar😅
Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds soap is also a great pre-treatment for grease stains, even ones that got baked on in the dryer. I’ve been very impressed lately. Thanks for all these tips!
I just spent 30 minutes online trying to find peak energy times in our area, why oh why do they have to make that info so difficult here in FL. Thank you for all of the great tips Brittany!!
Hi, great video. One suggestion is to clean the rim on the inside of the washing machine, the one which is rubbery. You will be surprised how much dirt that rim picks up but will feel so good after cleaning it. :)
definitely love this series- Abby Cox does a great video informing about the history of laundry as well as the importance of the disinfecting of ones laundry and the inefficiencies of just about every laundry machine.
Back in the early 90’s when we were all wearing rayon clothes, my husband did a couple of loads of laundry. Now keep in mind, I have really long legs and my pants can’t be dried or they shrink and are too short and rayon cannot be dried at all. Fast forward to the end of his “help”, all my rayon sleeveless work blouses were shrunk to doll size (no exaggeration on how much they shrunk) and all my jeans were a good 2” to short for me. Mind you, I had DETAILED instructions on the wall over the washer and dryer on how to wash my clothes properly. It was difficult to get “tall” pants back in those days, so I was NOT happy.
I feel your pain. I shop at good will for pants. I don't even look at the waist size after "medium." I'm looking at the bottom for the longest pairs. I pull as many as I can find before trying them on
My husband hates laundry, so nomatter what, he does NOT touch the dirty clothes, except to take them off himself. If I don't feel good, every one just has to deal with it. Only in an emergency they help with me helicoptering, over them to separate, then I give them the detergent and other for each load in a ziplock bagy, for each load premeasue.
Thank You so much for this video! For 28 yrs I have been using a garbage bag to put the dryer lint in. Until now! I just ordered the lint bin! Brilliant invention!
For my dryer I bought a piece that fits on my vacuum that will go down the dryer further to clean out lint. I think it was around $6 from Amazon. We had friends that their house caught fire from the built up lint in the dryer, so I am extra cautious
Thank you Brittany. I'll be changing a few things. I definitely over use my soap and dryer sheets. Just put in a load with less soap. Obviously good advice.
Love these tips! Thank you! I checked PA peak electricity time hours and they are from 9 AM - 9 PM I didn't even know that was a thing. Thank you Brittany!
thank you so much for keeping it natural and better for our environment! All your tips are right on and have been working for my family since I’ve been doing them. Keep them coming!
As usual, a ton of new things to incorporate! My question is how can I make my laundry smell great? There’s a ton of advice out there… I don’t have the time, energy, or desire to try advice or tips from someone I don’t know or trust. I trust you & love all your videos so much, so I’m willing to try anything you suggest!! I still have nailed it yet… but I watch your extension lash video at my mirror every time I attempt to try to do myself- which admittedly isn’t as often as I should to practice.
I just love this opening angle! The set up is perfect, love the shelves, video quality is awesome. I have watched you for years and years and years and love to watch your channel evolve! And you’ve always stayed true to yourself. Hope you Ryan and the kids are having a great weekend :)
“Have you seen my balls anywhere? I need my balls!” Your husband is the gift that keeps on giving 😂 and yes thank you for mentioning using less laundry detergent. Using too much can shorten the life of your washer. I use 2 tablespoons of detergent and they turn out so fresh and clean!
As a toddler My granddaughter was always sick ! Since I’m allergic to fabric softeners, I encouraged my daughter in law to stop using the dryer sheets. Within two weeks my granddaughter no longer suffered from her ailments!
Thank you for sharing ♥️ Very informative. I always used hot cycle, with fabric softener. Never realized all this is not required. Love how you husband cracks us up by his peculiar ways. It definitely enhances the fun in videos you make.
Thank you so much for the thought you put into your videos, they’re always super helpful! FYI, you can save your robe by dying it a different color 😊 I’ve had to do that before.
I separate everyone's clothes in the house. I do all my kids clothes separate. Saves me so much time from separating. I also do my husband's work clothes separate from his nice after work clothes. If I have a smaller load I just set the washer to speed wash which is half the washing time. I never mix towels and sheets with clothes. That grosses me out for some reason lol
Great tips, I use them all but will have to try the stain remover. My tip: Use your pile of dryer lint tucked in with your kindle wood for starting log fires. It works amazingly!
I felt your pain at the beginning of the video. My husband washed our clothes and shrank my favorite sweater when he dried it on the hottest setting in the dryer! He thought the hottest setting would cut down on the drying time. Lol!
Amazon has washer cleaning tabs that work incredibly well! They’re small but they eliminate mold and mildew and get even the unseen parts clean! Front loaders are worse unfortunately with mold and mildew. Amazon also has great gadgets to clean out your dryer lint traps, even the outside vent! For years I used Zout for kids stains, barf, poop, blood and it worked great. I found Puracy brand and it does all the aforementioned and it will even get off set-in stains like blood! Good for the environment too!
Myself and my children all have very sensitive skin. My best cure for laundry is to do the extra rinse on everything. This helps get out the detergents and clears up the rashes.
Thank you for this video. I actually keep a separate laundry basket just for towels. I do them separately. Also I learned this from another video. Should zip up zippers (the little holes you get on your garments are from zippers) and button all buttons on your garments. Have to say I love Ryan’s cameo appearances on your videos. He’s a keeper for sure. 🌹😀
I make my own laundry detergent & dryer balls due to husband’s skin allergies. heard about the vinegar but have not tried it yet- off to do a load of laundry! TFS!❤
I also heard about this before to not use softener but I've learned that rayon fabrics are best washed on cold and even then if I don't use a little bit of softener specifically for rayon it will shrink and shrink over time. I've also heard that hair conditioner can be used on rayon it would have to be a very easy to dilute conditioner with no silicones in it. I did try once a baby conditioner on a 100% rayon pants it seem to work but you'd have to try for yourself.
Absolutely love your videos. Great tips ✍ in this video. Your hubby is hilarious 🤣 oh my goodness. Question? What would you suggest washing new clothes or towels with?
Lots of good tips. Finding it hard to get on the vinegar train though. At least I don’t use softener on my towels load as the bathroom ones are of microfiber, just let the dryer make them fluffy and static.
This is such a great video. I have been lucky enough to have my husband do all the laundry. It’s been years since I’ve done a load. I will for sure have him watch this because it does have great tips and I can see some of the mistakes being done. Lol . But I am very grateful.
Hi Brittney I think the first mistake is not to read the instructions on the clothes to determine how they should be cleaned. I have made couple of these mistakes before. Do you think just like how overloading is a mistake do you think under loading is a mistake also? I feel like when I wash too few pieces they are not as clean 🤔🤔 You should try to recover your fav robe and let us know how you did it❤
Use lint from dryer as a fire lighter if you have a log burner. Reusable colour catchers can be used for over 30 times. It can then be used as a cleaning cloth.
In my country we use fabric softener not only for softening the fabrics but mainly because it gives much stronger and long lasting smell. I now think about switching it off for perfume pearls/fragrance booster because I also use fabric softener for the great smell they give to the laundry. If you use perfume pearls, please, give me your recommendations on what brand is the best, the long lasting smell ones, etc.!
Canadians, just a heads up! Our water is colder than US water so when we wash our clothes on cold it doesn’t typically get warm enough to actually clean clothing especially to clean the detergent out. This was a tip my mom got from a professional appliance shop which we were shocked by but it made a difference!
When my son was born, now 32! My husband wanted to surprise me having laundry finished before picking us up from the hospital, surprise he truly nailed! He washed some of my cashmere sweaters & put them in the dryer!!😭🤨🤣, they obviously shrunk!! They shrunk enough to fit my youngest daughter that was 2 at the time!! He left some things on the bed that needed folded, underneath the pile lay ( at rest!!), my two cashmere sweaters!! He thought he was really cute!! I called his name, he walks into the room, he knew why he was being called for!! He comes in & says” surprise “!!!
I recently bought a corduroy jacket/shirt that was a little big and it stated on the instructions to wash in cold water and tumble dry low.. Anyway I wanted to shrink it a little so I gave it a 1 time wash in warm water and tumble dry high...It now fits perfectly! Is this ok to do to get a clothing item to fit properly, or will the one time optional wash RUIN the clothing item??? Anyway it seems to be ok for a single wash but would love to hear your advice..
I use fabric softener only on the new clothes because i have texture issues with new clothes. After that they only get detergent wash along with oxygen bleach. Hang drying clothes goes a long way in terms of longevity of clothes and the sun is a natural sterilizer and bleach on your clothes. One tip if you do hang dry in the sun is hang the whites in front where the sun's rays come and the darks at the back. In India, hang drying clothes has been a long term practice along with hand washing all garments before washing machines came here.
YES! I've been having an issue with a spammer who is impersonating me and telling hundreds of people they've won my giveaways and it's been a mess so i've stopped doing as many until I can figure it out
❤️I have found that All Free & Clear PODs keep you from using too much detergent‼️❤️ I’ve used wool dryer balls for many years…they’re great! Also swear by the Shout color sheets - yup in every load❣️I can wash a load of everything and no color bleed…magical‼️ yes a bit pricey, but less than ruined clothes🎉🎉🎉 Love your tips…yes, most people think: big loads, hot water, more detergent…ya NO‼️ also…if you want to really ruin clothes - don’t ever read the washing instructions on a piece of clothing, they only put it there so you can cut it off…LOL‼️‼️‼️
I also ALWAYS wash underwear, socks, gym clothes, bed sheets, pj's, towels and wash cloths on hot. Science has proven this is the best way to kill germs and smells. I think you mentioned a couple of things I listed but I just like to be thorough
Really great tips, as always! 😁 Another tip if you hate sorting or too much different folding: choose a limited colour palette and type of clothing, that way you only have to sort and fold in certain ways and can systematize it.
So much great info. Quick question: my washer detects the size of the load so it won’t start unless it detects clothes. Any tips on how I can have it self-was with vinegar like you said?
Hi Brittany - My neighbor told me she does this, and I was surprised because it is a lot more work. unfortunately, I think she is right when she told me that underwear is supposed to be a separate load from other clothing. I'm trying to figure out the simplest way to start doing this.
Here in New Zealand its normal to hang washing outside on the line over using a dryer. Towels n sheets always get washed seperate. Darks n whites get seperate. My work uniform - mcdonalds - is always a seperate wash. My washing machine has a clean cycle, i put that on every so often and clean the lint filter out once a week minimum
I was happy to see you suggest vinegar instead of fabric softener. I’ve done this for many years. I’ve always thought fabric softeners were a huge marketing scam. I put the vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser.
Me too.
How much per average load?
My fabric softener dispenser holds 1/2 cup.
What about the smell after?
@@mikaelortiz1739 it vanishes. They don't smell of vinegar

Hi Brittney I think the first mistake is not to read the instructions on the clothes to determine how they should be cleaned. I have made couple of these mistakes before. Do you think just like how overloading is a mistake do you think under loading is a mistake also? I feel like when I wash too few pieces they are not as clean 🤔🤔 You should try to recover your fav robe and let us know how you did it❤
Yes I have tried essential oils on the wool balls! Does work amazing! Haha definitely!!! Dawn is magical 🙌
I wish my husband would not put so much detergent in, he is of the mindset that more is better. Great video, did not know that about dryer sheets.
Less is more!! Thank you
Yay! My favorite day of the week! The day I get to watch your new video 💕
Aw how sweet!
Use lint from dryer as a fire lighter if you have a log burner. Reusable colour catchers can be used for over 30 times. It can then be used as a cleaning cloth.
Using softner a very long time now I am using vinegar and baking soda . Baking soda also helps to soften the fabric especially towels
Great tip!
The bits with your husband KILLED me! 😂😂😂😂
Here in Finland I use peppermint laundry vinegar. Works very well. I love your videos😍
Wonder where I can buy Peppermint laundry vinegar in the United States?
@@ellie1461 I don't know unfortunately. Maeby you can order It from Finland. Good product. Nice sent.
ive reduced the amount of detergent i use and it really does make a difference especially in towels.
Yes!!!
Great tips, thank you for sharing! 💙
Also, I don't even have a dryer: in southern Italy we use to sundry our clothes ☀️
Love that!
Same in Greece😊
Same in India!
I’ve been using Dawn powerwash on stains and it works beautifully!
It's so good!
I’ve made all these mistakes haha thank you! Especially the peak hour one!
How do you wash and dry your microfiber cloths? Love your videos!!
5:31 YES! i was waiting for this! 😅
Thank you so much Brittany for the info and tips!
You are so welcome!💕
Canadians, just a heads up! Our water is colder than US water so when we wash our clothes on cold it doesn’t typically get warm enough to actually clean clothing especially to clean the detergent out.
This was a tip my mom got from a professional appliance shop which we were shocked by but it made a difference!
Thanks for sharing Brittany. Love Ryan's cameo appearance, LOL!!!
*When in doubt - soak it out 😀👏🏾*
Love this haha
Sorting by color is also crucial: lights, darks, mediums-
When my son was born, now 32!
That paper towel roll idea for vacuuming the lint area is such a good idea
I didn't know about the drain trap. Definitely going to look at the manual to find out where it is on our machine.
Yes look into it! It should be cleaned out
I use fabric softener only on the new clothes because i have texture issues with new clothes.
Lmao... Ryan is the absolute best...lol... the 2 of you are absolutely gorgeous and have a beautiful family!!!!
Thank you💕
Love all those suggestions!! Also love your husband's cameo 🤣🤣
I’m loving all of your content. I can’t wait for more of your giveaways maybe some Amazon stuff for fall and winter ❤
YES! I've been having an issue with a spammer who is impersonating me and telling hundreds of people they've won my giveaways and it's been a mess so i've stopped doing as many until I can figure it out
@@vasseurbeauty yes I have been seeing this on many Utube videos lately. So sad that it had to ruin it for the legit ones
I love Ryan's "You're welcome " at the end.😂🤣😂
Thank you 🎉
❤️I have found that All Free & Clear PODs keep you from using too much detergent‼️❤️ I’ve used wool dryer balls for many years…they’re great! Also swear by the Shout color sheets - yup in every load❣️I can wash a load of everything and no color bleed…magical‼️ yes a bit pricey, but less than ruined clothes🎉🎉🎉 Love your tips…yes, most people think: big loads, hot water, more detergent…ya NO‼️ also…if you want to really ruin clothes - don’t ever read the washing instructions on a piece of clothing, they only put it there so you can cut it off…LOL‼️‼️‼️
yes less is more when it comes to the laundry!
Brittany your video quality is amazing! I really love the camera you use now!
So happy you guys have noticed!!!
Your husband is too funny! Loved your show. Thank you
Wow, that color really suits you! 💚
Always cut your color catchers in half, I find they work just as well and you get twice the amount. I do this with sponges too.
Thanks! Thats so smart!!!
I also ALWAYS wash underwear, socks, gym clothes, bed sheets, pj's, towels and wash cloths on hot. Science has proven this is the best way to kill germs and smells. I think you mentioned a couple of things I listed but I just like to be thorough
Love you hair 💕 and thank you for another great video😘
Thank you!
Really great tips, as always! 😁
Another tip if you hate sorting or too much different folding: choose a limited colour palette and type of clothing, that way you only have to sort and fold in certain ways and can systematize it.
Thanks
Here in New Zealand its normal to hang washing outside on the line over using a dryer. Towels n sheets always get washed seperate. Darks n whites get seperate. My work uniform - mcdonalds - is always a seperate wash. My washing machine has a clean cycle, i put that on every so often and clean the lint filter out once a week minimum
