How to make an indoor Tabletop Fire Pit. DIY

- This video will show you the steps I took to create a tabletop/desktop fire pit using hydraulic cement and some plastic containers.
**Important things to note**
1. Wear a mask and gloves when mixing and sanding the cement.
2. Don't add fuel to the fire pit while it's lit.
3. Don't move the fire pit while it's lit.
4. Put the fire pit on a hard/thick coaster to protect furniture.
5. If you bump it while it's lit, the alcohol will spill out and could catch your stuff on fire, so be careful.
This project is fun and the end result is pretty amazing.
If you have some basic tools, the only thing that you need to buy is the 10 lb of concrete and some 1-quart cups. Maybe sandpaper if you don't have some. All in, I spent less than $4 per unit.
I made 2 large ones and 1 small one with one bucket of concrete.

Mixing with ice water slows the cement to give you more working time

It might help to have the centers tapered a little to help remove the center
if he would have followed the video he watched he would not have the cracking that's why they used oil oldest trick in the book but Hey he's a "Know it All"
i wonder if its just that size that it works with like i want a larger one maybe dinner plate size

Try placing it on a Ceramic Tile as a Coaster.

How has the hydraulic cement held up to the heat?
It's done great! No issues.
I want to do this but was told cement could explode, what type of cement did you use?
He used hydraulic cement.
Hydraulic cement from home depot. It hasn't blown up yet, but it does crack if you don't make the thickness of the wall large enough. I made two. The larger one has not cracked because the wall thickness is about 1.5 - 2 inches.
He said it in the video too.
How long did you wait before removing the core holder?
About 30 min or so. Not to long. I had to use pliers to get it out. It hardens up very fast.
How long does a few ounces of alcohol burn?
1 oz exactly, I am not sure, but if I fill it up to the top, it burns for 30-45 minutes.
How is it holding up?
Its holding up amazingly. No doubt.
What is the ignition material
90 % rubbing alcohal.
While it hardens right away, how long do you wait for it to completely dry? I'm hesitant to test it too soon.
It's pretty fast drying but I gave mine a couple days or so.
As long as you used the same hydraulic cement. 2 days should be good. Put in inside, next to an AC vent to make sure that its getting some air circulation and moisture is getting pulled out of the concrete.
Thanks, I did use the same hydraulic cement. However because the centers got stuck on my first few molds, i now keep on twisting the centers until the cement is hardened enough to not move on it's own. And pull them out while I can. Not even vegetable oil helped with the centers and i ended up cracking a few molds trying to get them out.
@@cjschin790 yeah it was a chore for me as well. Had to use some plyers and twist that plastic until it collapsed inside of the hole and then it came out. Wasn't easy but it came out finally. Good work man. Enjoy the firepit!!

Just a safety thing here is all fire produces CO2 as byproduct. Burning alcohol at this level burns more like a candle and smokeless so you can use it inside but please don't use this in a completely unvented room both you and the fire need the oxygen to survived.
