What I love about that movie when you think about it, is that it sets up a good enough background for anything else. It gives legitimacy for ALL the others horror movies that EVER took place, and make it plausible that they all happen in the same world. Except for the strict number, you can get one of those "horror ritual" in any country, with any kind of monster, and it explains characters that are led to making bad decisions due to those pheromones, ect ect. That is just SO great of a concept, brilliant idea !! AND it is a good time movie too, I laughed a lot watching it. :D
... yeah.. because the film is ABOUT horror movies. "we're not the only ones watching, we have an audience to please". when she takes off her clothes? the archetypes of the sl*t, the jock, the fool, the virgin final girl? The people working in the office are the writers and directors of horror movies, the ancient beings that require the sacrifice are the audiences who demand to see s3x and violence for entertainment! I mean this in the nicest way possible, how did the entire point of the movie both smack you in the face AND go over your head? 😅 you took the entire thing literally and then extrapolated how it could "explain" every horror movie ever made like you had some insightful thought..... THAT'S LITERALLY THE WHOLE POINT. 😂 it's a movie ABOUT horror movies. How we take complex human beings and boil them down into silly unrealistic cartoonish versions of themselves and then **punish** them in violent scenarios for entertainment, and how they all follow similar tropes and rules because of the history of the genre. The women in horror movies are often made to show skin, be sexy, and then get brutally punished for it, it's a morality play. The virgin gets to be the final girl who survives because she's pure, because she hasn't sinned, because she's seen as a morally good character that we want to see survive. But we demand a "sacrifice" of the other characters first so we can have a fun, bloody movie.
This is by far one of my favorite movies. I saw it in theaters when it came out and went into it completely blind. It’s one of those movies that I wish I could watch again for the first time lol
No we don't. We literally don't do anything of note, ever, nothing that changes the status quo in our favor, literally nothing to move the needle. This movie is by far one of my favorite movies of all time. It has a lot of fun facts, and it took me a long time to realize that each of the sacrifices is a trope used in horror films like the jock, the prep, the Virgin, the nerd, and the stoner.
And in the end, they DID consciously choose how they'd die. The basement choice was kinda manufactured, but 'hey it's /really/ messed up that the only way to survive is sacrifice, time to end it' was the choice.
I think a number of horror writers/directors saw this (in 2011) and then made movies like, Abigail, and the upcoming, Death of a Unicorn. These were chosen to be archetypical horror monsters, but some people were inspired by the diverse selection.
Fun fact. Since this was filmed before Thor but went through production hell came out after. So this was Chris Hemsworth before he bulked up for Thor. The actor playing Marty was actually in more shape and more muscular than Chris Hemsworth. But Because he plays the stoner character they had him wear clothes to lake to not out shine the jock character. Lol

- Marty’s (Fran Kranz) famous thermal mug/bong cost $5,000 to make and it was actually functional as a mug and a bong. - During the scene where the main characters jump in the lake, the only person who doesn’t jump in is Marty. This is because Fran Kranz was absolutely ripped in real life. He was in better shape than the other actors, which would’ve been totally out of character. The writers of the film joked that Kranz was like muscular Jesus. Kranz had to wear baggy clothing to help with the illusion that he was lankier. - For the scene where Jules (Anna Hutchison) French kisses the wolf’s head on the wall, the dust on the wolfs tongue is actually powdered sugar. The sugar not only gave it a dusty look, it made the scene more tolerable for Hutchison. - The script for the movie was written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard in just 3 days. They locked themselves in a hotel room over one weekend and didn’t leave until they finished the script. - The failed rituals we see in the other countries are all referencing various horror classics. The Kyoto ritual references the movie Ringu, the Buenos Aires ritual references King Kong, the Stockholm ritual references The Thing, and the Madrid ritual references Dracula.

As someone who is more into sci-fi than horror... I always wonder if every world with sentient life has their own evil gods that they give sacrifices to. And I wonder if spacefaring alien races just come across planets that are just a hellscape of wandering gods and demons and they're just like "Well, they failed a sacrifice at some point." Or a sci-fi where humanity is first exploring the stars and come across a world in that apocalyptic state and have to crash land on the world, and while trying to survive and escape they learn about the fate of the civilization and what led to the rise of the evil gods they're trying to survive and escape from.
The dude swearing at the Japanese children after defeating their demon is so damn funny. This is one of the best 'modern' horror movies, totally rewatchable, so many subtleties to discover with every watch.
One of my all time favorite title screens. The weird tepid office guy humour and then sudden jumpscare sums the movie up for you before it even starts.
“The wind must have blown it open, and that makes what kind of sense?” “As much sense as that wolf being a fucking moose”. 🤣 I almost spat out my Pepsi hahaha
As I watched the film I become more and more confused... Then when I realized what I was seeing I just laughed.😅 That's when I understood why the comedy label.😅😅 I found a cartoon series on yt that also surprised me, so I would recommend it to anyone like me who likes to be surprised in a movie. It has a uniqur sense of homour and way of seeing things, and for a cartoon it has a surprisingly sensible and scientific approach to the subject matter is covers. The cartoon series name is Hello Humans! from Wonder Visuals Network. 👽🖖👌
Marty is only half right. I have it on good authority that cops WILL, in fact, pull over a man with a huge bong in his car, specifically in the cup holder right next to the driver's seat. Fortunately, they will not arrest him, tow his car, or even give him a ticket. But rather, as if trifled with by jedi, they will forget all about the smell in the car and simply send him on his way with a verbal warning. This is a true story btw, and yes, we're from the suburbs.
React to the film: THE WOLFMAN (director's cut version, 2010), a remake of the Universal classic, much better, brutal and with great practical effects. It's worth checking out.
6:00 I was on a road like that once, unfortunately. I don't know if the amount of greenery surrounding mine helped or hurt the experience. Like.. can't see how big the drop is.. but how big is the drop? We're on the side of a mountain.
I don't know about everybody else, but I would LOVE to find a basement full of random stuff like that in a cabin. All I'll think about is how much can I sell some of this sh*t for? Some because I'm keeping others.
Probably already said but I'm not scrolling through all the comments but the common horror tropes were deliberately chosen and homage paid to many horror films. I read somewhere that the ancient gods represent unsatisfied horror fans who demand more and more entertainment and get sick of the common tropes or something like that.. Excellent script and film..reactions to this never get old. XO

Brig’s f@cking face when they put the light on bahaha I’m freakin dead 💀 17:13
It's funnier when you realize they are Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Grey's Anatomy is Scooby. The Rambler is they Mystery Machine.
The dude swearing at the Japanese children after defeating their demon is so damn funny.
This is one of the best 'modern' horror movies, totally rewatchable, so many subtleties to discover with every watch.
That face on the mountainside was the cover of the necronomicon from evil dead
One of my all time favorite title screens. The weird tepid office guy humour and then sudden jumpscare sums the movie up for you before it even starts.
“The wind must have blown it open, and that makes what kind of sense?” “As much sense as that wolf being a fucking moose”. 🤣 I almost spat out my Pepsi hahaha
saw this in the theater and the trailers not advertising it as a comedy was such a fun surprise!
Yesss!! 🎉
24:32 This is my favorite part because how in the hell did these little kids manage to exorcise an evil spirit? 🤣
i love it, the sacrifice of this group wasn't going to work to begin with because they got the labels all wrong.
More like, they tried to reduce people to labels.
no matter what you think of joss whedon, hes like star trek he always brings back his fav actors. and I love that.
26:40
One of the FUNNIEST moments in cinematic history 😂😂😂
As I watched the film I become more and more confused... Then when I realized what I was seeing I just laughed.😅 That's when I understood why the comedy label.😅😅
I found a cartoon series on yt that also surprised me, so I would recommend it to anyone like me who likes to be surprised in a movie.
I love all y'all's reactions but this one was absolutely GOLDEN! Thanks for the laughs!
React to the film: THE WOLFMAN (director's cut version, 2010), a remake of the Universal classic, much better, brutal and with great practical effects. It's worth checking out.
the pot head is actually super buff so they had him wear a sweat shirt as to not over shadow the jock.
omg, this reaction almost had me in seizures from laughing! yall are great. 🖤
I miss you guys I’m back
6:00 I was on a road like that once, unfortunately. I don't know if the amount of greenery surrounding mine helped or hurt the experience. Like.. can't see how big the drop is.. but how big is the drop? We're on the side of a mountain.
of course Joss Whedon had to produce this gem of comic horror
I don't know about everybody else, but I would LOVE to find a basement full of random stuff like that in a cabin. All I'll think about is how much can I sell some of this sh*t for? Some because I'm keeping others.
Probably already said but I'm not scrolling through all the comments but the common horror tropes were deliberately chosen and homage paid to many horror films. I read somewhere that the ancient gods represent unsatisfied horror fans who demand more and more entertainment and get sick of the common tropes or something like that.. Excellent script and film..reactions to this never get old. XO
Omg, this is one of my all time fav horror/comedies ❤
So good and holds me over until Yellowjackets (and their FORMER “cabin in the woods” comes back on Feb 14th 😂)
why is the blonde more relatable the main character lmao i need a couple more tears to know ur actually human
You guys should watch Oddity 2024 is so good and great twist at the end
“She’s sucking the tooth”…Shoulder Guy would approve of this 😂
24:00 “Roger” reminiscing his days as an Alpha Beta
🔥 reaction as always!!
I saw this blind when it first came out and I'm so glad I did 😂😅❤
Only word to describe this film: *LEGENDARY*
You know what is funny I just wanted this for the first time last night 😂😂
I also said the same thing 2:20
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder than to Cody’s Thor comment 😂
the girl with the teeth and dress is The Tooth Fairy
Let’s goooo!
This is one of those movies it's best to go in completely blind.
I've never done any illicit drugs, but I still want that bong.
Have a great movie night and keep up the amazing work work as well
First time I watched this movie was with a work colleague and he had a great idea to drink every time it was a typical horror movie part. So, the half naked girl, stopping at a run down gas station, etc. Too bad the idea wasn't shared beforehand for you guys! 😆
I think the gas station man was chewing tobacco (gross).
Also me when hot guy from Grey's Anatomy purposely undresses: oh fuck yes! *watches*
One of my favorite horror/comedy/scifi movies ❤❤😂😂😂❤❤❤
