    Fun fact: The video said 4 years, but now it's been almost 7 years and Spring Day is still right there korean charts lmao. That's like the national anthem and definitely one of the army's top favorite songs💜
    Army has a lot of memes and jokes about the queen Spring day kicking out the new songs releases because in every BTS or any other member comeback we notice that even if it has never left the charts the song starts climbing up like A LOT again lol

    Thanks for the reaction! Not sure if someone already told you guys this but this guide, or at least it's older version that you watched has some mis-info about J-hope. He did in fact audition to JYP but only for the dance competition JYP entertainment was hosting. Instead of getting cut like the guide says, he passed the audition and his team even won the entire competition. Instead of staying there as a trainee, he just took the money and went back to his hometown to finish his education there and later applied to Big Hit Entertainment and join the BTS line up. Just a fun fact I wanted to add, since this information was corrected in the 2023 ver

    Fun fact: they mention spring day being on charts even after 4 years. Spring day is indeed on charts to this very day and this video you're reacting to is more than a year old by now i guess. And with every new release spring day rises within top 50 easily like clockwork. The queen of a song.

    You are right as a pandemic Army I had time to just binge their constant content and old content (years later I’m still not caught up!). The amount of music and content they have created is almost unparalleled and the quality is ridiculous. Fun wholesome hilarious original stuff they produce on mostly shoe string budgets for Run BTS (170+ 30 min episodes) 4 seasons of Bon Voyage (BTS on vacation around the world) 2 seasons of iN the Soop (on vacation in Korea during Covid). While all getting bachelors and working towards masters. How???

To see more of it, I would highly recommend you to check the show SUCHWITA - where BTS members talk over food and drinks with SUGA about their solo albums, inspiration for creating them and share some old trivia stories about their past when they become group. • @Brookejay21
    @Brookejay21 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    The only reason I hate this take is the American “conquer Goliath” part, the boys did English songs to cheer up army’s and the world, not that it wasn’t a good buisness decision but they liked the songs and they charted without English songs, it’s them sound like chart chasers and as they wanna reach the highest point (as anyone in their field) that wasn’t their main mindset doing this stuff. That part just makes them seem so shallow and they are the opposite

    • @bta7658
      @bta7658 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its always you white knights that come and say these things based on assumptions when the member themsleves made comments regarding this, here RM as example:
      "So far they've released three English songs - "Dynamite", "Butter" and "Permission to Dance" - and RM told Billboard that he was never fond of the idea, but recognised it as a way to keep the hype up during the pandemic. He said, "There was no alternative""
      years ago he said that if bts ever created all english songs that tgat wouldn't be bts, then the pandemic hit and the military enlistment dates got closer and they felt like there was no other way other than to give in and do english songs. of course they had to market it as "just wanting to cheer up army" but the main focus was on trying to get those number 1's and maybe finally that grammy bevore they had to enlist

    Life Goes On, the single he mentions at the end, off BE, the pandemic album, was the first Korean language song to go to number 1. Every album is amazing, all 20 of the group albums and all 11 of the solo albums. They have already been together years longer than the Beatles were and had more successful solo careers so far in terms of having all members have chart topping singles and albums. They are the first group in global history to have 4, then 5, then 6 members as million album sellers. They have broken so many world records that they are already in the Guiness World Records Hall of Fame. All this without any scandals or bad behavior. They are just such good people.
    Jungkook just took the world by the throat with his solo album Golden and is blowing away or setting records and winning awards all over the place. Still, he just announced he is going into the military with the remaining 3 other members, years before he has to legally. This is because they all want to get out as soon as possible together to keep their promises to ARMY. That's all they care about. Jungkook also had an Instagram account with 52 million followers and he deleted it because he "never used it." They don't care about that stuff. All of them had fantastic responses to their recent solo albums and all of them had chart toppers. But they are all now taking 1.5 years off for their service requirement. Yoongi (Suga) is taking 20 months because he is doing civil service due to a shoulder injury. They only care about each other, their music, their loved ones, and ARMY.

    Their story is truly fascinating when you think about it - beside Jimin, none of them originally planned on auditioning for BTS. They either messed up or didn't pass auditions for other things, planned to be completely something else (an actor, like Jin) or auditioned on a whim, initially only wanting to support a friend (V).
    Seven different guys whose paths somehow have crossed at the right time. It's the first time in my life when I look at a group of people and their story and think that fate might actually exist.

  • @biru-kelabu-0821
    @biru-kelabu-0821 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    About how they split their income. This is purely speculation on my part, but I'd imagine that they are paid the same as performers. Suga has mentioned several times that RM shoulders a lot of more responsibilities as the leader, but doesn't get paid extra for this role.
    However, they're also get paid royalties for their involvement in songwriting. Some members have mentioned that I have the copyright for this song or that song.
    The way BTS create songs is that it's like a song camp all year long. They can submit beats, melodies, and lyrics to the label any time. When a track for a song is created, anyone can create melodies and lyrics over it and the label will choose the best ones and combine them. A song can have a verse from one member and a chorus from another. In their anthology album "Proof", we get to hear some members' demos for existing BTS songs that didn't get selected. So it's like a friendly competition for them to get their contribution selected (and then receive royalties for it).
    For "Life Goes On", a BTS song in the "BE" album, Suga submitted a version that didn't get selected. But he likes his version so much, that he rearranged it and released it as part of his album "D-Day". I love both versions. Suga performed his version of "Life Goes On" in his solo concert while playing the piano. It was one of the highlights of the concerts for me.

    11:13 yes! And not only nice but real. They show all sides, sides many often just show family and close friends. We get to see them emotional, goofy, affectionate, angry, tired etc etc. It's not just all how strong and talented they are and they don't brag about what they done, they just let it speak for itself.
    I think all this shows how you are strong for real. Being able to show emotions and affection and thanks and compliments and to be goofy and let loose shows you are strong and secure.
    Often many famous people (especially men) put on a persona and act all cold and cool and just very two dimensional and as if showing emotions is a weakness when in fact it's the opposite, if you truly are strong you are not afraid to show emotions etc.
    If you feel secure about yourself you can goof off and you can give credit to others and don't feel a need to boast about your success.

    The reality of being under a company with the management being the anchor of the group and not the other way around would have been a variable in how they deal with money.
    The rap line, the first 3 members, are the musical backbone of the group, and there has never been any dispute about this as their creative output always speak for themselves.
    The other four known as their vocal line are world class stellar performers. While Jin being the eldest often take a more informal leadership position, the rest fall in line quite willingly I suspect because they are also the younger members of the group. Age being an essential element of a social hierarchy, the rules are understood and expectations managed accordingly.
    I think it is a different cultural mindset. A communal culture vs a more individualistic ones like most western ones. I know it is a cliche. But it makes a huge difference.

It's because while one member is filming the video, other members come to visit for support and sometimes just get into the frame just because lol

(2018 no10 fake love,,, 2019 boy with luv no8,,,, 2020 no4 ON ) if they released a korean song instead of dynamite they would still get no1 since they were already approaching there. what dynamite did was staying at no1 for a second week and people hyped it up so much since it was the first english single of bts. and surely dynamite was everything we needed in quarantine :)

ANYWAY "The Rise of Bangtan" is the best video series to get to know the boys' story. Personally, I don't like this video very much because they predominantly look at the success and business side, making it seem as if BTS' journey was smooth. The video also doesn't really cover the actual art and their relationship with ARMY, both essential reasons for BTS' success. So, my point is: just be aware that this video only looks at their story from one perspective and is quite simplifying. Anyway, it's great to see your interest in BTS and that you want to learn more about their history!

    This skips over the fact that there were several other rappers that dropped out when it changed from a rap group to an idol hiphop group with dancing. RM and Suga stayed. Supreme Boi was one who stayed on as a producer and appeared in some later BTS songs as a guest rapper. RM and Suga were first officially in BTS, but JHope was already signed on to Bighit as a trainee and performed as a background dancer/rapper on stage with other artists like Jo Kwon. He joined BTS when the direction changed to an idol hip hop group. Also after RM, they did not just join as members as described. There were 30+ trainees competing to be in BTS, with the typical Kpop method of elimination competition where they all train together and skills are graded/ranked. Suga said he was often low in ranking but still survived. The remaining members survived the eliminations. Jimin said he was almost eliminated several times at the end.
    On Suga’s Suchwita show, members have revealed stories from the early days like when the 7 were formed as a group and living in the dorm, but did not yet debut and they were told to move out of the dorm because the company was almost broke. The 3 rappers refused to move out saying they couldn’t afford to move, and shortly after BigHit got money from an investor and they were able to debut. It varies by member but they trained hard for 6 mos (Jimin) to 3 years (RM- Suga). Trained on dancing, singing, stage presence, Japanese. They also went to school while training. JK started out in Junior high, entered and graduated high school after debut. All now also have college degrees. And since debut each of their skills has grown so much. 💜

    Until noticing how few "Likes 👍" this reaction has received, and then reading what I consider to be prejudiced comments, I have been clueless that "The Rice Squad" documentary had been deemed undesirable. "The Soundcheck" guys' reactions were so positive and appreciative of the work done in the documentary. I was shocked upon reading all the negativity from "fans." The young men who are members of BTS have not come across as judgmental to me. Therefore, I have high expectations that a fan of theirs would avoid judgmental attitudes.

    Thanks for your reaction to this essay. This is my favorite BTS vid-essay. However, I have one critique ... I see you guys leaning far for your computer, which I assume is the touchpad on your laptop. I have not checked any other of your videos yet as I am new here. I would advise getting a wired or wireless USB mouse & just put that mouse on a small table right next to your knees so you both don't have to reach. I would also advise enabling English cc subtitles whenever necessary. But do not use auto-generated CC, of course, those don't really work. I also noticed that sometimes the video essay would sometimes skip. I have never seen this before. It does not look as though these were your edits, but I could be wrong.
    I am glad you also touched on J-Pop, as K-Pop's birth was influenced from J-Pop far in advance. There is also one guy you should also react to, Seo Taiji, who is considered the "Father" of K-Pop. I won't get into his story here for now, but he is a rock & metal multi-instrumentalist. There would be no K-Pop today, including BTS, in existence, or in its current form, without Seo Taiji. Anyway, I look forward for the 2023 update & further content on your continuing BTS journey.
    As far as disputes between members of any band in history, per your discussions, the most recent one has been between Darryl Hall & John Oates, for financial motives. I loved this superstar band duo back in the the 1980's, making big hit after big hit, & they seem to have been cool with each other for decades. Until things blew up recently. Hopefully that doesn't happen with BTS, decades from now.

    I like your analysis on BTS' success reasons. The only luck they had was coming together - but even that was due to the astute decisions on the part of BH.
    The combination of their personalities is a huge part of their success. And I agree that they were a success because they were not the big 3: RM gives half of their success to ARMY - and they HAD to find fans before debut because Korean media etc tried to freeze them out - almost literally. That meant that their personalities became very transparent to the fans, and actually quite intimate. That was a necessity.
    I also like your appreciation of the importance of an artist's own writing - or at least their own 'voice' and message. I believe that one major thing crippling many western/American? artists is a growing use of computer-based music analysis used to profile hit songs and try to reproduce that success with songs that are little more than clones. I find that too many western artists are sounding almost identical. The songs have little or nothing to say. Now, I'm not very musical, I'm also increasingly deaf so any musical niceties have no impact on me, so .... what are you actually saying? What is all this noisy fuss actually about? Doesn't work for me, but even more, music made this way is never going to last.
    I wonder what would happen if we look back at songs/music which has real longevity and analysed that music? Early pop, classic jazz and blues, even Victorian music hall, even musical films. Most of it is really quite simple musically. No great subtleties, but really strong musical features and a great story. Lets think Beatles for example ... All you need is love, Norwegian Wood, Yellow Submarine, Let it be, one after another after another after another - simple tunes, beautifully rendered, with a proper message.
    However, modern pop is less about music and more about business and making money. We all need money, but much production is too focussed on short termism rather than growing a maturity and a story worth hearing. Those artists that achieve this seem to be universally self driven and self expressive, with extremely strong personalities which do not always go down well with 'management'.
    BTS is lucky that they fell in with BSH : if he had not had his stance of artistic freedom, RM and Suga would have walked out with in months. Instead he nurtured them and became a second father to them all. He is also a very significant reason for their success, but appears to take no credit at all. Except that they credit him enormously. If you want to look for 'humble', yep, look at Bang Si Hyuk PD Nim.

      @djlivvy46 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for this comment!
      Tio be honest, not many people in the pop industry wrote their own songs until The Beatles came along in the 1960's. But no one was particularly worried about that because the songwriters at Tin Pan Alley, Motown etc were the best in the business.
      Although we know that music industry moguls were often short sighted in the past, there were enough that could recognise and nurture real talent. Sadly those days are more or less gone now.
      US/UK music is now largely dependent on sex and vulgarity, and definitely lacking in fun. Which is essentially what paved the way for the success of BTS. 💜

    • @djlivvy46
      @djlivvy46 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is also the fact that many people came and went before BTS found its' final form, I believe there were 30 artists that auditioned and/or trained altogether.
      Supreme Boi was one of those artists, but he decided that he didn't want to be an idol so Big Hit kept him on as a producer. He can be seen in the live performance of the Cypher Medley.

    [12:50] The video link "first picture of BTS" look again. Do a headcount. What ?
    In the middle is Supreme Boy one of the other trainees, (there were some 30 at the most, I think,) who was supposed to debut as a BTS member, when it was a rap group, but he, as a rapper, stepped out, as it was flipped into an Idol group.
    You will meet him later with BTS, down the BTS rabbit hole, don't forget his name. Also he is still Big Hit Entertainment's in-house producer, so his name can be found in many of their songs.. ;D 💜
    [16:02] Dark Chapter of American Hustle Life - it is only a half joke. Most ARMY absolutely hates that show. (And if you know how positive we usually try to be, and how much we love almost everything they have touched.. But if you remember we are also extremely protective of our 7.. and that series triggers that. Bad. ) There is thousands if not more ARMY who absolutely will not watch that, because they feel so bad what happens in it. Many of us actually regard it as a dark chapter in BTS's path..
    💜
    I myself came through summer 2018 from J-pop. :)
    💜
    [23:00] We call Spring Day "Queen". I checked today it is 81 on Gaeon Chart. Since it was released February 13, 2017 it has never dropped out - it is Korea's longest charting song since forever By Far. And there is a good reason for that. Outside of that it is incredibly beautiful and emotional song on itself, it has several meanings tied to it, that are so painfully.. important to talk about.. It is many of us Favorite BTS song. Like mine. But I rarely can listen to it without full on ugly cry. 💜

    Well, if a member writes a song, he gets royalties for it, so the income of the individual members differs based on that, I'm pretty sure. Like Namjoon would get a large chunk of his income from royalties, because he wrote so many songs. And I would guess there's a lot of other things like that, but they probably have the same base.

But xceleste is still a good addition since she shows the hardships that neither large guide really do. This one in particular makes it sound like they came out and had a smooth steady journey up.
