Idk about "last", but I'm glad to see more and more people acknowledge what a masterpiece this thing is. As far as up through MMLP2, this is my favourite. Still need to get to the rest
Wow this album takes me back. I was 12 years old when I listened to it for the first time. My mom was okay with me listening to Eminem, but for some reason this album was off limits. And that just made me listen to it the most because I downloaded it directly on my phone. This was 2012. Just youtube to mp3 40 minute file. Memorized all the minutes for each song haha. Because of that this album is the one im most familiar with in his discography. He was the first music artist I actually staned and knew all his songs and unreleased shit. Because I spammed listening to this album in secret, I never ended up seeing it as "cringe" or lesser in his discography. I knew everyone spoke of The Eminem Show highly, but for me Relapse is a staple of his. The first album cover I loved on an album. I can't believe it flows under the radar. Then again I was 12 and ofc didn't know anything about metacritic and fandom album tier lists. I found out years after my emimem mania faded that not alot of people fucked with Relapse. Bottom of their tier and straight up hated it. It's so fun to think about that maybe because i was young I didn't have a reference point for how things were suppose to sound so the accents never sounded off to me or annoying. I wrote a book, but that's how much this album is a time capsule for me.
Encore wasn't the best album but it was an interesting piece of art. It took me awhile to get it but I go back to it a lot more than I ever thought I would. You can hear an artist that is at the top of the world realizing it was not what he thought, that it didn't make him happy, that his past problems were never dealt with and are getting worse and he is completely out of his mind on drugs the whole time. The album is so cynical and bleak. He tries to sabotage his career on the album. If you read the Dre Bio he talks about how Em went back behind him and re-recorded a lot of really good tracks and gave them funny voices and weird themes. I think the people that eventually got into Relapse might rediscover that one too. It's very much in the same vein. The difference is on Relapse he tries to poke a hole of light through the window and is working through things rather than just letting them consume him totally. Both those albums have a lot of Dre production too.

Relapse is fantastic and I’ve been enjoying it the last 15 years. I also enjoy Encore quite a bit which is another album of Eminem’s that isn’t so beloved by fans, but I find has a good amount of replay value. Relapse is an album that was necessary for Eminem to make since he was coming out of a dark period of his life and was sober for over a year at that point. The creativity of the rhyme schemes and the production value are truly amazing. I wish we got Relapse 2 as initially planned, but Recovery is a good album. I do understand why he took what was Relapse 2 at that point in the direction he took it in and primarily dropped the dark songs from the album, but I find myself replaying Relapse more than Recovery honestly. I hope Eminem will appreciate the album in a some way one day as many fans truly love Relapse.

I love the appreciation relapse has been getting the last 10-13 years I remember as a kid watching his old music videos and really becoming a fan in the the re up and encore/curtain call era (because it was tied to 50 cent who I also loved ) then the whole almost dying and returning to the rap game thing and then 3:am and we made u premiered on mtv then the album came I fucking fell in love with the whole thing as a kid who loved horror and comedy it was perfect I was confused to why a lot of people hated but then a year later I did the same with recovery. 😂
Eminem HATES THIS ALBUM, I couldn’t believe it when I heard that. He really does tho. Relapse is the finest display of lyrical insanity ever. I’ve never listened to any album more than this one and for years I couldn’t believe every time I listened to it I heard some new lyrics or punchline that I didn’t realize before. It’s so damn great, it’s funny it’s serious it’s dark af it’s really like unbelievably relatable to anyone who has ever been thru a debilitating addiction. It’s just oozing with talent, i think it’s the album that really displays how he really is hip hops heavyweight champion no it’s not a typical rap album subjectively and it’s very odd but each song tells a story with his unmatched lyrical prowess. I am aware that the underground has some amazing artists that are very lyrical but relapse is polished and mainstream and it pushes the boundaries of what ppl believed Eminem was capable of it’s an actual masterpiece. Oh recovery was pretty great too not dark but lyrical insane
It’s definitely not a masterpiece. The accents always ruin it for me BUT the production was great and it has my all time favorite chorus from an em song in “Beautiful”.
I love this album. And when I went through my own recovery it took on a brand new meaning to me. I was lucky enough to be at local CD shop at the right time. This album was stacked up in freshly opened box behind the counter. The album wasn’t due to drop for several more days (maybe a week?), and the person working the counter didn’t seem to know to hold them for release being a small store with disinterested staff. I asked “hey are those for sale?” And he goes “uh, yeah I guess?” Scanned it and I walked out ecstatic to hear it early. I listen to it front to back with a buddy of mine who passed back in 2014. This album is fantastic to me. It speaks to a different audience than the majority of his fans and I think that’s why the narrative is that it’s bad.
I have always said I think he says he hates because he underestimated how many people are just not able to understand it it takes a decent amount of intelligence to really hear what he’s saying it’s most definitely a masterpiece. Recovery was also very good but it’s not the dark story telling lyrical assault that relapse is.
@@lemickeyjames8100Eminem doesn’t hate Relapse anymore I think. He said something about it being considered a classic in the Complex Interview between him and “Slim Shady”
This album was the perfect marriage of em’s technical ability and creativity/his natural grasp for cadences merged in some alternative head space where it’s almost like he’s playing a role and you can’t tell if she’s actually lost it or serious, it’s such a unique piece of work too at the same time like it’d be one thing if he did the accent with poor execution but I’d argue he had unbelievable execution on this including the freestyles he did during this period are some of his best. I prefer it to is hyper technical style of today only because you didn’t know what to expect and the accent allowed him to bend words and come up with these different cadences that sounded menacing yet represented having fun with your art masterfully
My dude!! I have been saying this for years. Eminem died to me when he released recovery. Everything after that did not vibe with me. Relapse and every album before that have a special place in my heart.
Also Drop The Bomb On 'Em was recorded during the Orlando trip in summer 2008 as well you could argue that was recorded first because it has a southern accent that he was using in 2007/2006 via leaked songs & features it ended up on Refill
Relapse was kinda good in my opinion, honestly it’s tied with most albums for me, the only albums that are above the rest for me are the: MMLP, Slim Shady LP, Eminem Show, and Recovery. Other than those all other albums are tied up, that includes Relapse, Don’t hate Relapse, don’t love it either, hope y’all can respect my opinion.
It’s so weird that the criticism of this pushed him to release Recovery as a “cover-up hey look I’m still good”. When I think relapse is much better and more interesting than recovery. I still like recovery, but it was the first time Eminem showed that he cared a lot about what critics thought.
I hated so much when he shat on Relapse on Recovery because ever since then they've worked so hard to make this narrative that this album was a stumble. Deja Vu might just be my favourite Em song of all time and i'm a lifetime fan
Unpopular opinion, but I'll say it anyway. Eminem has amazing albums and no one should hate Relapse as much as they do. Sure, it's a lil different; but does that make it terrible? If people can say they hate Relapse with confidence, then I can say that Recovery is overrated with the same confidence.

Bruh I need that link to the new Eminem talking to the old Slim Shady, that whole bit seems like Comedy Gold!
Search his complex interview if you haven't found it yet
now everyone just likes relapse
This the last album of Eminem’s that felt like and sounded like an Eminem album
to call it eminems last masterpiece is crazy, kamikaze, mtbmb, tdoss are all masterpieces
Im so glad Relapse is finally getting the love it deserves.
13:50 -14:19 i got motherFu%$^ chills 😩🔥
BABE WAKE UP, NEW MOST UNRULY
you can tell dres support meant a lot
Stans who love Relapse >>>>>
This was actually a really good watch!
What a mind trick, a work of art for the ages! Em is my biggest inspiration!
MMLP2 (Deluxe Edition) was the last good thing Em released. That was 2013
Agreed.. his albums since then have ranged from ok to good, but never again has he dropped a legit classic like relapse
cough cough Em's best album after MMLP & SSLP
Cough cough that's your opinion
"i hear its got side effects of jealousy" was so funny lol
This poor guy never heard Recovery. SMH
they're all masterpieces. including revival.
Keep up the covers 👍
Also Drop The Bomb On 'Em was recorded during the Orlando trip in summer 2008 as well you could argue that was recorded first because it has a southern accent that he was using in 2007/2006 via leaked songs & features it ended up on Refill
Always loved this album
Relapse is my favorite album
It’s funny to me that everyone’s least favourite em albums are my fave’s, with the exception of revival
Great album 💯
Relapse was kinda good in my opinion, honestly it’s tied with most albums for me, the only albums that are above the rest for me are the: MMLP, Slim Shady LP, Eminem Show, and Recovery. Other than those all other albums are tied up, that includes Relapse, Don’t hate Relapse, don’t love it either, hope y’all can respect my opinion.
Relapse (Relapse: Refill) is my favourite Eminem album. I said it.
Relapse is so amazing. I dont understand why it gets so much hate
It’s trash
I’m a bigger recovery fan than relapse but both are masterpieces imo.
My fav album of his after MM LP
I love how ppl make it seem like he went ghost for 5 years....... he didn't he still was putting out music just not a full solo album
It’s so weird that the criticism of this pushed him to release Recovery as a “cover-up hey look I’m still good”. When I think relapse is much better and more interesting than recovery. I still like recovery, but it was the first time Eminem showed that he cared a lot about what critics thought.
MMLP2 is underrated af imo
Imo Music to Be Murdered By is his best album since then. I really like TDOSS too though. Relapse is my 2nd favorite, after MMLP.
I always wonder where Em would be if Recovery was never a think and Relapse 2 was what came instead.
I hated so much when he shat on Relapse on Recovery because ever since then they've worked so hard to make this narrative that this album was a stumble. Deja Vu might just be my favourite Em song of all time and i'm a lifetime fan
Em was almost there but he collabed with rihana and went out like a cornball
The title is so wrong he has Recovery right after which is his best album ….
fr
Respectfully nah(unbiased)
@@evilgoblinghoulofghilbertia 10/10 along with everything after being at least a 7/10
Nah bro...
Eminem is Shady records /Aftermath Entertainment Detroit 🔥 🔥
