  • A common question is how to do textures in blender by using the UV Mapping to correctly unwrap the model into a single texture file and then how to do PBR materials to have the best possible rendered object in game.
    This tutorial attempts to cover how to do correct UV unwrapping and implementing PBR materials using the Blender2MSFS plugin in Blender.

    In my opinion, humble and not being absolute at all, it would be better to teach people how to texture using ID Maps (TexTools is awesome for that) and Quixel Mixer which is a free 3D painting program, as good as Substance Painter if not even more in a couple areas ;) If you need any help with that, I moved myself from "single texture" workflow like yours to a "3D Painter" workflow with Quixel in the last 2 weeks, and I seriously got an improvement in quality and ease of use! Get in touch if you need any information or speed tutorial! You might find me in the SDK Discord as "Losco Nosciuto" or, well...here! :D I ain't that good talking at people and I don't have a good enough connection for HQ Video Uploads, so, what you learn is all yours eheh!

    Just wanted to say, "Thank you!" for all your tutorials. You've helped me so much with the MSFS modding. I can safely say that only because of your videos am I able to do anything in there. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!

    This is exactly what I'm doing now... trying to texturize my model. 20min watching your video, my brain got a CTD. Hehehe, geez, I´ll have to watch it again, in slow motion! Thank you!

    Love your videos! I use the tools straight in Blender for texturing my models, including adding reflections, roughness, glass, emissions, etc... and using the blender UV mapper to properly position the texture. I think it's a little more straight forward that way.

      @Michael Dessero - Principled shader and node set up window is the way I would do it. But I would have to rely on our 'tutor's' advice for how to get a completed model into Flight Sim :)

    Thank you for this and your others videos. I'm learning Blender to be able to model my local airport.
    I'm applaying a different aproach with the textures. Insteaf of doing them by hand with photoshop, once the model is completed if Blender I bake all the textures to one.

    Just some tips since you seem a dab hand at shortcuts you can set fireworks or Photoshop etc to export each layer as a seperate image meaning if you finish them all you can do a one time export to generate all the normals, bumps, roughness etc in one shot rather than having to select/hide then export each one individually.
    Keep up the work man

Working with the MSFS scenery editor and polygons to adding this after I put the object into the sim? Or should I do that directly in blender?

    Hello
    I have such a problem!
    1. I imported the building from the Xplane 11 flight simulator into a blender.
    2. From the blender I exported the building with the texture to the MSFS2020 extended gITF 2.0 flight simulator
    3. MSFS2020 flight simulator, the texture of the building is not the same as in the blender, the texture is dark colors are dark I took a screenshot here: avd.cba.pl/msfs2020/screenshot/screenshot.jpg
    4. Such a curiosity when I put a new object next to an imported building in a blender and apply the same texture to it, then it's ok.
    I am struggling with this problem and cannot cope.
    It seems to me that in the building that was imported there are some incorrect settings parameters in the blender that I do not know where to look and what should I change to make the textures the same bright.
    I saved the project so that I could see what the settings are and uploaded it to the server in the .blend format
    Project: avd.cba.pl/msfs2020/budy.blend
    Texture: avd.cba.pl/msfs2020/budy.png
    I am not very proficient in handling a blender, I would ask for help in solving this problem, thank you in advance.

    Great video thank you. One question. Is it best to model all details of an object e.g. windows doors etc or just use textures?

    • @FlyingTheston
      @FlyingTheston  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What I tend to do is put it all on the texture so it all looks flat, then I go around in blender and add in details like window sills, doors, etc to make them look 3d. Then I have a high LOD model with all the details, and a LOW lod model where I turn off all that detail and just rely on the flat texture, which looks fine at a distance

  • @baf_mcnab3065

    Hello mate, nice to see you venturing into Blender mini tutes, but is the video quality correct ? I can only get it to 360 which means I can barely see numbers etc on the screen AND you say 'object mode' a couple of times when you mean edit mode and so on.

    • @FlyingTheston
      @FlyingTheston  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try refreshing the video, it was probably still processing the HD version when you first viewed it.

    • @baf_mcnab3065
      @baf_mcnab3065 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyingTheston Have done thanks and it's HD now, gonna watch it again to see your process, which seems a bit confusing and dare I say it, convoluted but you get the end results and you are way ahead of me with the FS SDK stuff. I am probably more experienced in Blender, though I still use 2.79 - One or two tips for you and others, in object mode, if you rescale something, you can hit control+a to bring up that 'apply change' menu, and I would get into the habit of using seams before unwrapping. One other thing, normal maps are used to give the impression of surface detail instead of having to model it. They are more like fine bump maps rather than anything to do with how bright or dark parts of the model are. There are a few decent free normal map editors knocking around.

    • @FlyingTheston
      @FlyingTheston  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A normal map is for faking lighting, it is a type of bump map but it does not actually displace the model, that's what a displacement map is for

    • @baf_mcnab3065
      @baf_mcnab3065 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyingTheston Yeah but it has nothing to do with light or dark, (or lighting per se) that is what I am saying. I am a fan of your vids, I am not knocking you, but actually trying to help to make things clearer for others. ( In fact for faking the effects of lighting, you might use AO maps (ambient occlusion))

    • @FlyingTheston
      @FlyingTheston  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@baf_mcnab3065 I'm not taking it as a knock. But the normal map is exactly doing what I'm saying, it adds the illusion of bump to the model by highlighting or darkening the area, it does not deform the mesh in any way. So it gives the illusion that a surface is sticking up because usually on a surface that is sticking up it would be darker on one side and lighter on the other side.

    a good alternative to texture models a lot faster is quixel mixer quixel.com/mixer its a free alternative to substance painter and its really easy to use. Also it has a huge library of materials. One simply drags and drops the materials on the parts one wants. I make myself an ID Map and use it as a mask. If you need some help with it I could give you a hand and a introduction
