I never believed Kia or Hyundai were qualify (or aesthetically pleasing) vehicles anyways. However, since news about vehicle fires has continued to develop, I feel unsafe just being near them. Kia and Hyundai are both releasing a steady flow of EVs, but I’m even less inclined to look at a Kia/Hyundai EV than a Kia/Hyundai ICE.

Transport Canada needs to look at where Hyundai and Kia have been placing their turn signals on their vehicles as well. They have been increasingly placing them on the rear bumper. When driving behind one of these vehicles when it is snowing, or raining, it is almost impossible to see the signals.

Pretty much described all modern cars , the directional blinker lights are to close to the head lights .Many past cars had two lights indicating direction in separate places on the car , many blinked in a different sequence with their twin.,One facing front & one on the side.

I agree with you 100%. Most people now in the US are driving huge pickups. They are not able to see the turn signal if they are trying to change lanes. Yes, we also get a lot of snow and ice buildup on the rear bumpers here in Michigan as well. The engineers that thought of that design should be shot.

I had a 2011 Toyota Corolla that I bought brand new and after only 2 years the rear view mirror started to separate, all the weather stripping was coming off and the back passenger door panel had a large gap between the window and the panel. None of these things were covered by the manufacturer's warranty OR Toyota's ECP (extra warranty) that I paid for. The other thing was the stitching on the front passenger seat started to come apart and that was the only thing they fixed. This was my very first brand new vehicle and as a result I will never buy a Toyota again. Best of luck to you

Two years old no problems at all.. I've always heard from friends who own those brands after 5 years you really hear funny engine sounds. So they sell it off cheap and buy a japanese brand.

It never ever needed a boost, no sensor errors, no flat tires even,(experienced truck driver), only changed 3 signal light bulbs, 2 marker light bulbs, and regular oil/filter changes, USING ALL TOYOTA recommended fluids, under the hood. Sound system very good. Never ever required new brake pads/shoes, etc. as regenerative braking re-charges the large battery pack behind the rear seat, front of trunk. From Quebec, I own a 2020 Elantra, luckily it was covered under warranty, but there still is no recall.
My engine began knocking at 4000km, I let the dealership know and they ordered parts for the vehicle, this was in November 2020.
Fast-forward to January 2021, and they still hadn't received the parts (backordered) and were reticent to loan me a car. My Elantra was doing 16L/100km, was heavily knocking to the point where it sounded like a large commercial diesel and was regularly losing power on acceleration. I had to wait for an engine light to come on before I could take it to the dealership and they finally left me with a loaner car.
I asked them about it, and they confirmed my suspicion. Debris in the engine, leading to a bad lubrification of the rod bearings causing engine failure. This is EXACTLY the same issue plaguing the early 2010 Elantras, still present 10 years later.

They covered the replacement but I still played $1400 in a new ecm and another $300 for a starter in the next 3 weeks. Not covered by Hyundai. It ran perfectly fine prior, never even had a warning light. Traded it in because other sensors started going, which happens when you start replacing other sensors. Still waiting to get a check from the class action lawsuit in the us. Thanks for sharing this information.

Hyundai had another recall (beside this one) just few days ago. This is why it is important to do the home work before purchasing any vehicle and to check history or company reputation. Hyundai was well known back in 1980s for manufacturing very sub-standard, unsafe vehicle model called "Excel". That vehicle was a major disaster for the company due to so many issues and unreliability. Then about 10 years ago or so, the company made some improvements with the help of German engineering. This is why their style has strong similarity with many German vehicles. When I visited Japan recently, you will not see even one Hyundai on the road because Japanese people will not buy any Hyundai. Perhaps they know some thing we don't here in the USA. Personally with all these recalls mounting with hyundai and with past poor reputation, I would not buy Hyundai. I know many people buy Hyundai simply because they are quite cheap in price compared to Toyota or similar brand and models. But what everyone should do is to ask these simple questions:
1). Is it really worth buying Hyundai to save few dollars compared to pay just bit more to purchase other brands with hardly any major recalls?
2). What will be the reliability of such vehicle in the long run?
3). How well the re-sale value will it hold and depreciation in value?
unfortunately the reality is most people are not willing to pay just few more dollars to buy better overall vehicle so when they buy Hyundai, they feel they are saving by not paying more. But what is wrong with this approach is not able to buy quality product and settle for sub standard vehicle which will end up with disasters such as outlined here. Then you can end up losing entire car.

I drove back from skiing in Quebec City to Ottawa in early 2017 and only noticed my engine was knocking when I got home. I traded it in for a Toyota not long after that and of course, now that car is on the recall list. Just glad I got rid of it before it caught fire beside my house or with my kids in it! So what is new for Range Rover then? BIL had his own parking spot in the service bay, and as I dropped it off there so often the security and most of the sales people thought I actually worked at the dealership. I used to skip the check in line, drive through the side entrance, past the security then take it to it's parking, and leave the key with the service office, along with the fault list for the week. In the months they had it that recall was out for "immediate attention", and they had the new pipes, but they were never installed.
Guess how we found that out, I was driving the kids, and the hose popped, so I had to do a roadside fix to get it going, using a multitool, and cooldrink to fill the water up. Yup popped head gasket on a rear cylinder, but it was "within specs", so it had rough idle when cold forever after. The low water sensor is disabled on start, as it would otherwise falsely trigger with normal coolant flow.

When the Hyundai Excel was introduced I was a mechanic at a independent shop and my god those Excels were flooding in. Major issues and safety issues were common. Like brakes that lasted less then 10,000 miles, overheating due to undersized radiators switch gear that was cheap and breaks easily. I swore off Hyundai completely and never bought one. I rather have a 10 year old Japanese car or few select GM, cars then ever consider a Hyundai or Kia. Beautiful stylish vehicles but way under engineered for North American roads

I'm curious to know if low oil was the cause of the excessive heat. A "knock sensor" is a microphone on the engine. Manufacturers are putting thinner and thinner oil in now, consumers don't check their oil levels enough or change it enough, and engines naturally consume oil (depending on driving conditions). I'm not justifying the fires, I'm curious to find the cause. Is it a design flaw amplified by the as stated conditions above?
