One thing you just reminded me of is how unreasonably expensive most Mario course sets are. I remember picking up one of the Lakitu sets a few years ago marked down from either 40-50 to 25, and it BARELY felt like it was even worth that. With how flimsy and spread out they are plus the price being inflated because of the tech put into them, it’s really hard to even feel like you get what you pay for with them even if you like the course system (which I did at the time)
If Lego used the production capacity to make those Toad houses into 3D buildings, they'd probably charge hundreds of dollars a set, because otherwise, it makes financial sense to produce an expensive set for the adult collector market vs. an active playset for kids where you bounce around a little Mario figurine and can't charge that much to parents buying one or two. Don't get me wrong: I agree with you. This model makes everything absurdly expensive.

I have some sets of Lego Super Mario and I think that Lego mario is so unique and fun to play. If you have a mini figure, you haven't got any interaction. Also, The Mario Bros series is based on levels, yes there are some 3d games but Mario is a platforming game. I am not a hater I like your videos but I needed to talk about these things. Thanks 👍
I hate it when they try to incorporate stupid gimmicks into things... LEGO Mario didn't _need_ to be "gamified." Children would know how to make their _own_ games out of it, and the way they made it actually inhibits the ability to do that. I'm not really a LEGO collector, but I can only assume its worse for them. Instead of being able to display these cool Mario sets, they're goofy looking courses with soulless empty eyed square-shaped freaks. How are you supposed to display a LEGO Mario if his eyes are only visible when turned on, and even then it still doesn't look good? I know these specific sets aren't made for that purpose, but its still sucky for LEGO historians. The app tie-in makes it even more gimmicky and less accessible.
I bought the bowsers castle set thing which was VERY expensive, and I couldn't even finish building it because it was so flimsy. It was really disappointing that I spent 120 CAD for an unfinished lego set sitting in the back of my closet 😭
I got the Lego Mario starter pack for my birthday on 2020 and the Bowser's battle castle set on Christmas that same year. I spent a month building the castle and played with it for like a week. I havent updated my Lego Mario or charged his battery ever since
Love the first night set too ! I even built it in Minecraft with a few others. And since lego Minecraft went through a few changes over the years (with a big one in 2014), we can hope for some more changes in lego mario as well
I do enjoy some of these sets. I've taken some of the recognizable places like peaches castle, bowsers castle, Mario's house, Yoshis house, and DKs house and modified them to work at minifigure scale. And they all look pretty fantastic and fit with my fake figures really well.

How they treated the mainline Lego Mario sets and some of the Animal Crossing sets makes me worry about how Nintendo/Lego is going to treat a possible Lego Zelda line. But then again, Lego could nail it like SEGA did with most of their Sonic sets, or with the adult Nintendo sets (Bowser, Deku Tree, etc.) so idk...
While I haven't brought a lot of the Mario sets, the ones I did mostly have a focus on Yoshi, for obvious reasons. I even brought the Bowser car because it was cool. Oh, and next on my list are the Bowser train and Yoshi on the Yoshi Bike.
Bro I remember seeing the teaser for lego mario while I had an exam I was excited. Then I saw that on my screen......to say I was disappointed would be an understatement
I really hope we get official minifigures for mario at some point, considering we have lego sonic, minecraft, animal crossing and zelda, it would be perfect for a super smash bros display
I think it’s fine that they’re doing those course builders, but I find it’s only for younger kids. They could make so much more money from sets like Minecraft where they choose a location with mini figures geared for an older audiences along with the course builder
3:09 fun fact the bowser in the bowser car lego set has different pieces that make him slightly unique so he is basically just a coller bowser. Also IS THAT COOL BOWSER?!?!?!?!
I once had a dream where there was a Lego set that included O'Chunks from Super Paper Mario. I don't remember exactly what he looked like, but I'm pretty sure he looked much better than most of the figures in the actual Lego Mario sets.
Is that really necessary? A lot of the characters and enemies I think have been designed very, VERY well in brick-form. This is especially true of the Donkey Kong characters and the Luigi’s Mansion ghosts.
I have to be honest some of the courses bulid set's do have some form a display for example big bad island, ( odyseey you forgot to mention the luigi's mansion and donkey kong set's😢😢 )good video, pls make a video of the animal houses from lego Minecraft
I have a question why is everybody hating on the Mario Legos like they’re the most interactive lego series and most of the Lego sets we get collect dust on our shelves I just don’t get it
Really hoping they do a Mushroom Kingdom Castle in the same way as the Deku Tree set, minifigures and all. Also wouldn't mind black box sets for the other big Nintendo series as well.
@@benmalsky9834 I find that Minifigs make it so you can combine as many worlds as you want. I can give Baymax the Infinity Gauntlet and no one can stop me. It's that kind of thing. Mario Minifigures would mesh with the wide world of Lego instead of the ones we have now.
@@mysterybox2817 You SERIOUSLY need to see what people have done with MOCS, or My Own Creations. Lego minifigures are not the only thing that makes Lego, well, Lego.
The Odyssey vehicle thing would be a great, smaller scale set, like maybe $30, while stuff like Peach's castle or a Bowser castle would defenitely be at least $100. Other location builds, that aren't just buildings/vehicles, are more difficult, but I'm sure they could make some really nice terrain too, full of actually fun minifigure-scale platforms. Putting the characters in action poses for display and such. Make some item boxes actually contain a small item that represents a power-up. Make variations of minifigures for different power-ups. Make certain characters, character variations, and power-ups exclusive to super expensive sets, and boom, easy money.
I have never understood this take. Who cares that it is different? They wanted to try something new and nailed it. I personally have bought roughly 75% of these sets, and i think that they all are worth picking up. The interactivity in them especially is probably the best thing about these sets. The way that the sets like the reznor one move and play is so cool. Each set feels very original given how they are based off new things. And the sets based off actual mario locations are really nice, i like the easter eggs they throw into them. I also like the characters because the coin thing is just very replayable. I've spent hours building sets and trying to get the highest scores. Sure, lego mario is probably not the best line of lego, but it is far, Far, FAR, from bad.
I don’t understand exactly why everyone thinks minifigures are absolutely required for their satisfaction when the Mario characters have been designed very well in brick-form?
I think it would be kinda funny but ironic if LEGO made a set for Super Smash Bros. based on the stages Battlefield or Final Destination, and that was the only time you would get a Mario minifigure, maybe a Luigi if you're lucky.
When it released I hated the Lego Mario sets. Today it’s my favorite Lego series. Pretty crazy! But yeah, I just really love the absolute creativity of it all and would personally not be a fan of minifigure sets. Building each monster and figure is just so pure Lego creativity it’s a blast every time I try to a figure in a set, just seeing the techniques used and such. The 6 collectible blind bag series they did got so many unique characters/monsters into the lineup! The interactivity of the sets is just so interesting and fun to experiment with and come up right ways to create real boardgames using what exists. Honestly, if the series was just like Lego sonic, I would probably have loved it at first but got bored very quickly as that’s pretty uninspired and tired really But yeah, planning a way to do an irl Mario party with the sets. Been pretty fun planning it too!
Surprising how you don’t mention the DK sets which were released just last year as while minifigs for the 4 Kongs and 2 of the Animal Buddies would fit I think what they have makes sense since Diddy & Dixie would’ve had a rougher time translating to minifigs due to them being smaller but also would’ve looked rather awkward in comparison
I got the older peach starter course for my girlfriend for $24 USD instead of $48. So she seems to enjoy it for sure. I dont mind the sets too much, im mostly excited for the Mario Kart sets, and I'll most likely display them. My brother has the orginal Mario and Luigi starter course sets, so me and him sometimes play.

Thanks 👍
Even if Mario didn't work as a proper lego minifigure, he would be fantastic as a lego duplo figure.
0:06 Nathaniel bandy brings back memories
LEGO Mario would actually be good if there was a Thwimp in the style of the Piranha Plant and Bowser sets. Love those little guys.
So true, also hi green! :3
There should be one in the future. They’ve been REALLY GOOD at representing the vast array of Mario enemies in the line.
I've seen a lego piranha plant for 90$. That pretty much sums things up.
@@saeedalk847 That’s because it’s around 900 pieces. That’s normal for Lego.
I bought the bowsers castle set thing which was VERY expensive, and I couldn't even finish building it because it was so flimsy. It was really disappointing that I spent 120 CAD for an unfinished lego set sitting in the back of my closet 😭
@@Zackattack3055 I suggest you finish building it and it will be worth it.
@@benmalsky9834 I can't, it can't hold all the piece without breaking and I might be missing some pieces. So yeah, still in my closet. 😭😭😭
@@Zackattack3055 You can do it. And on be you do it will have been worth it.
I got the Lego Mario starter pack for my birthday on 2020 and the Bowser's battle castle set on Christmas that same year. I spent a month building the castle and played with it for like a week. I havent updated my Lego Mario or charged his battery ever since
I will not take this yoshi slander 😭
what did yoshi do to him bruh
Love the first night set too ! I even built it in Minecraft with a few others.
And since lego Minecraft went through a few changes over the years (with a big one in 2014), we can hope for some more changes in lego mario as well
Absolutely love this video for so many reasons!! We don’t only need drybones for smash, we need minifigures for Lego Mario🔥
I do enjoy some of these sets. I've taken some of the recognizable places like peaches castle, bowsers castle, Mario's house, Yoshis house, and DKs house and modified them to work at minifigure scale. And they all look pretty fantastic and fit with my fake figures really well.
you saying super mario galaxy and lego mario in the same sentence makes me want a lego comet observatory set so bad 😭

“we don’t have any original ips!!!”
parappa the rappa, ape escape, god of war, jak and daxter, klonoa, lemmings, ratchet & clank, sly cooper, and uncharted (they’re just sleeping on their ips with no new games):
Most of which were just featured in a decently liked 3d plattformer as cameos: yeah, we definitely don't have any IPs.
@@LG555Decently liked? You mean highly acclaimed.
I had an unbelievable obsession with LEGO Minecraft back in the day, there was a series made by Titan Pictures that I kept binge watching over and over again
Please make a video on LEGO Minecraft and its history
10:45 they recently started including Instructions in the box as of Jan 2024
2:43 HOW DARE YOU HATE YOSHI 😡😡😡
Yeah!?!?!?! why blame Yoshi!?
Odyssey should consider himself an opp after that statement

As someone who’s bought multiple sets in this series, I feel personally attacked 😂
One of my favorite Lego sets I own is the Question Mark block set. It is very cool.
(That’s all I have to say)
Finally, Odyssey is coming back to his roots.
Also please continue the Lego Indiana Jones series im begging you.
It’s NOT just for younger kids. Adults can really enjoy some of them, especially the airships and vehicles.
I just guessed this man in Akinator.. And he got it right?!
3:09 fun fact the bowser in the bowser car lego set has different pieces that make him slightly unique so he is basically just a coller bowser. Also IS THAT COOL BOWSER?!?!?!?!
been watchin bro for years, peak commentary, peak editing 🙏🏾 W video
I once had a dream where there was a Lego set that included O'Chunks from Super Paper Mario. I don't remember exactly what he looked like, but I'm pretty sure he looked much better than most of the figures in the actual Lego Mario sets.
@@Avatar-fc2qi The actual Lego Mario sets DO LOOK GOOD!! Stop with the slander!
LEGO needs to make official Mario Minifigures in the future, instead of course builder or custom/knock off versions.
Is that really necessary? A lot of the characters and enemies I think have been designed very, VERY well in brick-form. This is especially true of the Donkey Kong characters and the Luigi’s Mansion ghosts.
@@benmalsky9834In my opinion, some other Mario characters such as the electronic figures look too blocky which doesn’t look like Minifigures.
@@BrickMeisterZ If they do look blocky, that just makes them more fitting because it’s Lego.
I have to be honest some of the courses bulid set's do have some form a display for example big bad island, ( odyseey you forgot to mention the luigi's mansion and donkey kong set's😢😢 )good video, pls make a video of the animal houses from lego Minecraft
I only own the Lego NES, and it’s one of my all-time favourite sets for LEGO. I may also get the Piranha Plant one for… obvious reasons.
What are such obvious reasons?

We have moved on from odyssey central making videos about games and he also do Lego videos again
I agree mini figures are the best!
My top three favorite sets got some of the best
1: Bonsai tree
2: International space station
3: Tiger 3:1
At least we got Lego Dry Bones
literally everytime i see bowser in your videos i already wait for the freaking cool bowser joke
I have a question why is everybody hating on the Mario Legos like they’re the most interactive lego series and most of the Lego sets we get collect dust on our shelves I just don’t get it
I really love them and don’t want them to stop making these lego sets
And plus I love the silly goofy little brick builds of the characters
I have the Lego NES set, and it’s pretty cool, was even a fun set(except the part where you have to stack tracks and build the screen)
Fun fact you can put Lego Luigi,s overalls on Lego mario to make smash brawl mario
You will never escape the Minecraft movie video. 😈
Maybe odyssey would do a ranking of the mod vote on next Saturday and also hopefully the biomes and trees
I think the only reason that lego mario isn't a minifigure is because of that electtronic display thingy
I personally have both the NES set and the ? block. they are great display sets with some play features to boot.
Really hoping they do a Mushroom Kingdom Castle in the same way as the Deku Tree set, minifigures and all. Also wouldn't mind black box sets for the other big Nintendo series as well.
Are minifigures REALLY necessary for your satisfaction? I’m fine with literally anything they do.
@@mysterybox2817 True, but the same can be said for Lego bricks. They are meant to be combined with anything as well.
I find it funny how the other Lego, aka K’nex, did a better job making a Mario minifigure
You described it better than I could why the Lego Mario line as it is is really good.
I don’t understand exactly why everyone thinks minifigures are absolutely required for their satisfaction when the Mario characters have been designed very well in brick-form?
@@benmalsky9834 I know right?
I think it would be kinda funny but ironic if LEGO made a set for Super Smash Bros. based on the stages Battlefield or Final Destination, and that was the only time you would get a Mario minifigure, maybe a Luigi if you're lucky.
Really? I really like em! But some bigger and more varied sets would be nice. Time to watch da video! :D
YOU'RE 20??????? I thought you were just trapped in some 18-year-old purgatory
I’m like a cartoon character I never age
When it released I hated the Lego Mario sets. Today it’s my favorite Lego series. Pretty crazy! But yeah, I just really love the absolute creativity of it all and would personally not be a fan of minifigure sets.
Building each monster and figure is just so pure Lego creativity it’s a blast every time I try to a figure in a set, just seeing the techniques used and such. The 6 collectible blind bag series they did got so many unique characters/monsters into the lineup!
The interactivity of the sets is just so interesting and fun to experiment with and come up right ways to create real boardgames using what exists.
Honestly, if the series was just like Lego sonic, I would probably have loved it at first but got bored very quickly as that’s pretty uninspired and tired really
But yeah, planning a way to do an irl Mario party with the sets. Been pretty fun planning it too!
3:10 electrodome reference?
I used to buy loads of lego mario but now i dont use it and lego mario just sits demented on my shelf now
Surprising how you don’t mention the DK sets which were released just last year as while minifigs for the 4 Kongs and 2 of the Animal Buddies would fit I think what they have makes sense since Diddy & Dixie would’ve had a rougher time translating to minifigs due to them being smaller but also would’ve looked rather awkward in comparison
