Once you paint the facia the screws will not be prominent. It would also be easy to pull and replace if you need to get in there and do some work. It looks great. What a wonderful space you have to build your railroad. Everything is looking good.
Masonitte board, MDF treat edge with mix off 1/2 wood glue mixed with water, sharing from Fine Woodworker magazine. Otherwise edge drink paint to no end, moisture swelling of edge.
Did my fascia the same way. Had to put strips of wood glued in behind to keep it straight throughout the year to stop warping from expansion. Hot glued the foam scenery base to the front edge to prevent bumps from causing it to come separated. Turned out rock solid.
Facia board game changer! 🤗 That layout went from a hodge-podge distraction to a professional-looking layout. I never noticed how good that trackwork looks until now. ❤ I'm Lovin' It! Really nice work! . . . 🚂Lawrence
The facia came out great. What a difference maker. A few more ideas for finishing the facia. Myself I countersunk all my screws and covered them with a dab of wall board mud. A buddy used a brad nail gun. He has all sorts of cool tools😂. I like what you guys are doing. Keep the updates coming.
The facia makes all the difference bring’s layout to life. Can almost see the scene starting to take shape. Good job guys looks fantastic happy modelling 😎🚂🫵
I still like the straight facia at the peir, but seeing it on video, I get what you mean. We'll smooth it out. You didn’t show them the new powerbox or the remade curve at Dicks Building Supplies!...😂😂😂❤❤ Cheers 🍻 Corey "Earl"
What a transformation Wade, really nice! Have you ever produced/shared a track plan by any chance? I’d love to see an overview of how everything ties together with the levels, branch lines etc. greetings from the UK, Ian
Thanks Ian! I did have our original track plan a couple years ago, but things have changed so much with all renovations that it wouldn’t be accurate, also in November the last big renovation is going to get underway. The staging yard is going to be rebuilt along with one helix, with that we are going to extend the staging out under the rest of the layout. Once that is done the track plan will be final, after that could try and get a full track profile, but that’s a year away. Cheers Wade
Looks great but could you do a short video on how you anchored the upper shelf to your wall? I’m going to do the same but not sure if I should use 12 inch metal support bracket screwed to sheet rock. Rob
The wall on the branch line, or the shelf part of the layout was done with the 12” brackets, into the cinder block, then we built a frame on top and put risers on from there.
I have a 14" top shelf staging and I used 1/4" threaded rod to support the outer edges, turned out rock solid. But just make sure you are screwing to the studs! 😂😂😂😂 Cheers 🍻 Corey
@@coreywidmeyer9521 Yes, I will attach to the studs. I'm doing a 2% incline for 20 ft but only 2 track 8" wide shelf. I'm just going to use stainless steel angle iron without any outside edge support to see how sturdy it is. I have been using 3/8" birch cabinet plywood which is pretty light weight. What is the distance between your upper and lower shelf? I'm planning on 18" for mine. Rob
Hi there, I haven't seen your name. So I see your basement is very large and long!! I'm planning on moving out of Illinois and go west bound, Idaho or Wyoming. I'm trying to design a house and or the basement the best I can. Can you shed some light on what you have there?
Hey, curious if your going to get a set of the new Rapido GP9rm's? I'm on the fence because I'm not sure how modern they are...are they still in use up there? Let me know please..thank you sir!
Yes we have a few but they are getting speaker upgrades and weathering before they go on the layout. And to answer your question, there are only a couple of these style left in service, 4028 is one of them, I’m building that unit but it needs a couple of modifications to be made current, but there will be a few on the layout here in the next month or so when I get time to get them done. Cheets
@@SilverCreekSub also, it looks like it would need to be renumbered as well to 4028? And renumber the slug as well? Hell, I should send mine to you as well...lol
@SilverCreekSub as am I. But that engine seems to be gone from the roster or that version of it is too old for my timeline...so there's that. I'll check out the third video tonight after I get in from this run...looks interesting...best to you brother, be safe out there..

Ah to have that much space, and finished too.
We are very fortunate to have the space we do

The fascia made a huge difference. It really highlights the excellent job that you guys have done on the layout.
Thanks Derek!

Thank you! And yeah I’m leaning towards the finishing nails when it’s all said and done, but mudding over the screws could work well too! Thanks again
Great progress, layout looks fantastic
Many thanks!
You should produce a layout tour. From what I have seen it looks like an interesting track plan.
I have had several requests, I will once the layout is final, a big addition and rebuild is coming this fall
Sounds good. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
dang. you got a bunch of work done, and major improvement
Little by little 😁
Layout is looking really good. You have a lot to landscape but when done it will add even more interests to it.

Nice facia work but, wow what a layout
Thank you! It’s starting to come together
Looks awesome! 👍 How heigh is the top level from the floor?
Top level is about 5 feet
What type of throttles do the engineers use on this layout?
We use proto throttles with a JMRI wifi throttle over NCE
Cool.
Thank you!
Looks brilliant, strong work! What are the two deck hights on average?
Around 3 1/2 and 5 feet
Who did the roof top AC unit on that CN GP Wide cab?
That was a 3D print I had a friend of mine do.

This area is a place we rent long term, but the HO scale layout is 50x16
What system do you use for your signals?
We use CATS over JMRI for the full CTC control
Great layout, is this a club or private Layout. First time seeing this, great job this is a fantastic job. Mike HO from Australia
Thanks Mike, this is a small private club, just a few of us 😁
What is the layout dimensions? Is this a steel building or basement layou
It’s 50 by 16 feet, and it’s a place we rent in the local arena
Okay. 16 ft, it looks wider than that.
