Tip...don’t “lower” the bike, change the seat. Lowering the bike decreases the lean angle. Just trying to help.🤘😎

The E/Glide and the Road King you rode in my class both had H.D.'s reach seat. That seat puts you closer to the bars and closer to the ground. That's the only difference between the bikes you rode in this video.

Thank you Jerry! It certainly made it much easier to reach the controls. I still liked the Electra Glide best- it felt the most comfortable size wise. Are either of those bikes lowered?

I am a Street Glide owner. The Road Glide faring seem too big and the Street Glide offered better wind protection for the hands, easier view of gauges (I wear a modular helmet), and sportier riding position. Also, you can attach adjustable wind deflectors to blow more air on you on hot days or deflect it off on cold days. No matter which you both end up getting, get the adjustable rider’s backrest. Trust me, you will love having it.

    • @megsmotorcyclejourney

@@megsmotorcyclejourney Something to consider before spending $20+k on another bike is to find an HD dealer that will allow you to rent the model you wish to purchase for a weekend. That way you can ride it at highway speeds, and longer distances. Plus, you can see if you like the storage capacity too. I wish I rented one before I purchased my SG. I did not realize the wind buffeting I would get with the Street Glide's low windshield. Keep in mind that I wear a modular helmet too. I do not have any experience with the Road Glide. However, keep in mind that the Road King and Heritage Softail both have removable windshields for hot, summer riding. Just some advice you and Cameraman can think it over.. Also, the HD GPS (least got the 2018 model ) is not good. I heard they made improvements, but have the HD dealer demo how to use that before you purchase. I had resorted to use google maps on occasions.
Enjoy your Daytona trip and stay safe..

Okay, I’ll admit it. I am a shameless fanboy of the Heritage Softail. At 5’9” with a 29” inseam they just work great for me. I have owned 4 big bikes also but none of them ever gave me the pure enjoyment of riding like the Heritage. Currently I have 2 Heritage Softails. A 2010 and a 2020 with the 114. Great video. This is my dealership as well. I live in Columbia. I enjoy your videos because your rides are pretty much the places I ride...Over the years, I have purchased 3 Harley's from Old Glory HD. My last purchase was in 2017 and it was a choice between the Street Glide Special and the Road Glide Special...I did the same test route you did switching back and forth and I ended deciding on the Road Glide Special....I love it and don't regret the decision... Thanks for your channel and videos. I really enjoyed your video of the "haunted ski slope".. I am very familiar with that area as my daughter used to live in Butler....and we used to hike frequently at Oregon Ridge Park....I still love to ride in that area, and I know exactly where Cal's estate was...Also in that area was another famous Oriole, Mike Flannigan lived... Again, love your videos and channel, because I ride those same roads. I am also a huge fan of Motorman...Keep up the good work!

I own a 2020 Road Glide Special. I recommend changing out the seat for a saddleman gel seat, which will lower your stance and improve comfort. I also strongly recommend swapping the rear shocks with 13" LEGEND REVO-A rear shocks, and add a screaming eagle stage 1 kit. I added LED blinkers front & back, and HD rear bag break lights. I also did a HD stage 2 torque cam upgrade.

Meg, my first bike after a 30 year hiatus _( bought it last month )_ is a 2019 Road King, which I love riding and have ridden 1500 miles. That said, I would like some more wind protection for cold weather riding. I can't imagine selling my Road King because of the naked-bike experience, so I would likely add a Road Glide or Ultra to the fleet this coming winter. I started watching your video series when you were at Jerry's in FLA, which sparked my interest in riding again. Best thing I have done in many years! I practice in the parking lot on a weekly basis and will ride down to GA to work out with Robert Simmons *_Paying It Forward_* very soon. Best wishes.

The road glide is a frame mounted fairing vs street glide is a fork mounted fairing and the is around 850 lbs and street glide is around 800 lbs. So power is better on the street glide but the road glide ride is nicer because of the frame mounted fairing. Harley makes a super reduced reach seat it will lower you about 1.5 inches and move you forward about 2.5 inches check with Jerry ( Ride like a pro ) now if the bikes are 2021 they switch back to a cable clutch from hydraulic so buy a seat for you and cameraman can use the stock seat. for those who are watching but do not know..... the heritage is still a softail. no different than the lowrider s (you could put bags on and it would be the same bike)
all the touring bikes, (DG, RG, RK) are the same bike... the fairings and windshields are all personal choice.
there are 3 basic harley platforms:
the sportsters (low, 48, etc.... small l, light-ish and quick. these were the race bikes years ago...)
the softails (lowrider, heritage, standard... etc)
the touring (road king, road glide, street glide, ultras)
(also, trikes, and now electric and adventure (which is a street legal, off road bike)
...there used to be a "dyna" which was kind of a cross between a sportster and softail (the sons of anarchy bikes)
every harley is customizable beyond imagination. even a 25 year old bike is still the same....if you can flat foot it, you can learn to ride it safely. it takes a good 5k miles to feel comfortable and you done "get good" until after 10k miles of experience.

@@megsmotorcyclejourney you are welcome for the good words. I have been riding Harleys for 29 years and can tell you that being a safe rider is an important part of protecting yourself. The other part is staying aware of others on the road . I alway tell newer riders that the biggest risk is cars entering your path from either another lane of a side road. Two rules that I always follow is 1) Assume that no one can see you as you ride and 2) and even if you make eye-eye contact with the driver, assume they will try to run over you. I say this because if bu doing this you are always aware of an escape path when they do pull into your path, your chances of avoiding a crash are a lot better.
      Safe riding!

I owned a 2018 Street Glide and I never could seem to get comfortable on it. I’m 6’3” with long limbs and nothing I did (seat, bars, etc) gave me a level of comfort for any period of time in the saddle. Always felt like I was trying to back away from the fairing.
I test rode a Road Glide one afternoon just killing time and purchased my 2019 FLTRXS that afternoon. It was fairly comfortable with the stock bars but I opted to go with 14” Factory 47’s and it fits me like a glove. One of the things I noticed immediately was how stable the Road Glide is at very low speeds vs the Street Glide, which in my head the fixed fairing on the RG makes it more stable as you’re not constantly battling the weight of the fairing moving like you do on the SG. It’s a totally different ride in my opinion and the RG fits my riding style better. Maybe it’s got something to do with all of the years I spent on the MX track and having that desire to be farther back over the rear wheel, hell I dunno.
You guys are certainly going about the purchase the right way and riding lots of bikes to make sure you both can agree. Any way you go, there is no wrong choice so long as you get what you feel most comfortable on.
Keep up the great vids and quality content !

Meg, whether its a "company bike" or whatever, you really cannot outfit the bike for you and cameraman to fit and operate it comfortably and safely. It will have to be one or the other. You are a small petite person and he is an average size male. Different seats are a must for either of you, maybe handlebar positions and minor changes to the foot controls, but make this decision thoughtfully. Good choice for the Road Glide. Mine is a 2009, and love it!

Hi Megan I've had 3 street glides and I bought new a 17 road glide special .in my opinion the road glide having a frame mounted faring cuts the wind easier.by that I noticed on the highway or cornering at high speeds the handle bar fairing on the street glide will wobble some.but its still nice .the road glide frame mount is more stable in high speeds and wind. I like them both. As far as you sitting far forward and having trouble moving around the bike.the seat can be cut down on the sides letting your knees and thighs to be closer to the tank.this let's your legs or feet get more flat footed. Jerry has a video on this suggestion. Plus the back of certain seats can keep you more forward. For better control. Lowering the bike can alter the handling and ride .I've seen women your size riding both bikes.some even have big rubber heals on their boots.good video.just my experience with the two bikes. For what it's worth.Rich

I came to the same Road Glide vs Street Glide conclusion as you and cameraman. I had EVERY intention of trading in my Solftail Heritage Classic on a Street Glide Special. I was shocked that the Street Glide Special ride was so harsh and the wind protection was terrible. I ended up with a 2020 Road Glide Limited. Not having the weight of the fairing on the forks is noticeable at slow-speed maneuvers. I highly recommend you change the clutch and brake levers to reduced reach Softbrake levers and the brake pedal to an extended Softbrake brake pedal. I preferred the look of the batwing fairing, but I doubt I'll ever own one after now having ridden and owning a Shark Nose bike. Another thing to know, a large phone will NOT fit in the batwing. I have a Google Pixel 3XL and it fits fine in the compartment on the Road Glide. I'd have to mount it on the handlebars of a Street Glide. That was a big deal for me, as well.

TIPS for those issues you were having.
1: they have seats that will push you forward
2:FBI (Fat Baggers Inc) has a seat lowering kit which will drop the seat 2.5-3 inches so you dont have to lower the the bike, if you lower the bike itself then handling suffers as does the quality of ride
3: the new hydraulic clutches SUCK. you can get the Rekluse slave cylinder and/or the clutch kit which fixes the small friction zone and makes the squeeze MUCH lighter.
