I bought a 2020 Road Glide Special. I wished they offered it in chrome like they did the first couple years they made specials. I like the look ok I would have got chrome if they offered it at the time. The black shows every speck of lent, it smudges. The black is probably even cheaper for them to do on the bikes. You know Harley though, they known for figuring out how to make something cheaper, charging you more for it and convincing you there is something more special about it. Like denim paint. You get an incomplete paint job and pay more for it.

Loved the review. One comment I would like to share, is concerning being able to relate to the Harley spokespersons. When Ryan looked to see who they were, he didn’t talk bad about them, but questioned whether or not they were relatable to us as riders. The key word is riders, and no matter what walk of life they come from, if they have the passion to ride, they are all relatable. Brothers and Sisters in the wind.
Thank you Ryan for the great videos. Heres to many more years of riding.

I'll admit that when I went from having nothing but cable clutch motorcycles/ Harleys to the 19' Electra Glide Standard FLHT with a hydraulic clutch. The artificial feel of the hydraulic clutch was definitely weird for me at first but I grew to love it and the fact it's always consistently the same. Doesn't get spongy when struck in traffic. I feel like it would be weird to go back to cable clutch.

I also don't like losing the hydraulic clutch, feels like a step backwards as I loved the hydro clutch on my 2016 Road Glide. When i first heard about the hydraulic clutch issues a few years ago, i thought they were probably due to the basically air cooled block, there is no controlling wild temperature fluctuations without water jackets, thats why everybody else uses them. In other words, the slave end of the system was probably getting overheated, “boiling” the fluid, causing the issues. I’d bet the problem is a lot more prevalent in Miami than it is in Seattle.

  • @Evirthewarrior

Clutch story and why I think its a good change: I owned a 2014 Fatbob, cable clutch, loved it, it was stolen, I got the money from insurance and decided it was a good time to step up to a 2020 street glide special, after about a week of riding the street glide special I was asking if there was any way to change the clutch because it was way worse than the cable on my Fatbob. The pull was harder and was at the end of travel, far away from the grip, the dealer said no, I was really regretting the purchase, I loved everything about the motorcycle except the clutch, so I looked online the only way to do anything to was to get an adjustable lever (I got the Oberon ones). It took me from trading the motorcycle in and getting a softail to actually enjoying the motorcycle. If it were a cable then, that would not have been an issue at all, I would have just had it adjusted and not thought anything about it. Hydraulic clutches are much harder to pull, IDK why people keep saying they are "easier" they are further away from the grip so you are using your finger tips to pull it, and your hand is much weaker when it is extended, thus making it harder to pull.
I think the Hydraulic clutches suck and kinda wish I had a 2021 instead of a 2020 now, I have a couple thousand miles on the motorcycle now with the new lever so it is not as bad, but having to buy a set of 300 dollar levers to make it enjoyable sucked.

I love the hydraulic clutch on my 2020 Street Glide Special. My previous bike was a 2018 Sport Glide with a cable clutch and apart from needing a couple of adjustments over the first few thousand miles I had no problem with it. I could roll with either although I do feel that the hydraulic clutch is more premium and the cable clutch is really the cheapest way to get the job done.

I know zeist said more harley products are coming up and going to be virtual displayed, but at least they could have said something more about the new custom with the revolution x engine and pan America. I've had cable and hydraulic clutches; on all old, Japanese bikes. Less trouble out of the hydraulic ones (had a broken cable on the way to work once that was a hassle), but riding impression from one to the other is a toss-up. As long as you do hydro right it's fine, as long as you do cable right it's fine.
Finesse for a Gymkhana type of cone-work thing I can definitely see the value in a more consistent feel out of the hydro for sure; but for me just knockin' around it really doesn't matter.

Because the cable is adjustable and the hydraulic sucks and you cant adjust it, ether you like it with the friction zone at the end of travel or hate it, many riders including me, hated it, I had to buy adjustable levers just to get the friction zone close to the grip so I could more easily manage it. I seriously had the conversation with my wife about 200 miles into owning a 2020 Street Glide Special about trading it in for a softail that had a cable clutch and eating the extra cost of trading in and getting a new bike. The Oberon levers I found online via Jerry “Motorman” Palladino's recommendation on them saved me from doing that. I still wish I could have just adjusted the clutch and not had to spend 300 dollars on levers.

Cable clutch on my 05 Ultra...hydraulic on the 2018 Limuted. Got stuck in heavy traffic on the first long ride with the hydraulic. Forearm got fatigued with the friction zone being so far out...
Ordered OBERON levers when I got home. Those adjustable levers did the trick.
At a riding class the MOTOR teaching advised that every time you ride with adjustable levers you should adjust them all the way out and squeeze the clutch in 8-10 times and then return it to your setting for comfort.
The only issue I found is that the adjustable levers, when adjusted closer to the bars, do not engage the neutral safety switch so you cannot start the bike while it is in gear with the clutch pulled in.
Overall the adjustable levers work well for me!

So glad I bought my 2019 CVO Street Glide when I did. I had waited until the release of the 2020 CVO models and I saw they had removed the fairing lowers and speakers. Having just recently made a trip the the Smoky Mountains on my 06 Fat Boy with my buddies who were on Ultra Limiteds, and we got caught in rain several times, I decided I wanted those fairing lowers on my next bike. So I immediately checked several of my local dealers here in Houston for any "new" 2019 CVO SGs, and found what I was looking for. Ended up buying a new (3 miles on the odometer) 2019 CVO SG three days after the delivery of the 2020 models. I paid $5000 less but got those CVO color matched fairing lowers with the Stage II speakers, the heal shifter, two key FOBs and retained the capability to close the fairing vent, all of which were missing on the 2020s. Now the 2021 model also loses the hydraulic clutch, after market tuner connectivity, and possibly the SiriusXM module, with still no price reduction. They really should brand these new ones CVO Lite. To be fair, my 2019 is missing the RDRS option the 2020/2021 models have. But I am good with still having the linked braking with ABS. And, I'll have to check out to see if the new 100 Watts per channel four speaker Rockford Fosgate setup is noticeably improved over my 150 Watts per channel six speaker Boom Audio setup. Still, I feel my 2019 is holding good value when compared to these two newer year models. I know I would feel shorted to pay these prices today and be missing that many features that previous year models had.
Ryan, love your review, how-to, and documentary videos. When not out riding, this is the kind of "reality TV" I prefer to watch. Keep up the good work.

I, for one, really enjoyed the event. The objective of the event was to seemingly reestablish Harley's roots in the road and the ride. Every person they featured was someone for whom the road provides a degree of peace, escape, energy, excitement, community, and adventure. This is the promise of Harley, and benefits it hopes will re-attract new and lapsed consumers to the brand. I was impressed with how singularly focused their message was, and how beautifully they featured their products. This wasn't meant to be a tech spec event, it was meant to be a fashion show. I'm a 38y/o new rider, 4yrs riding, and have fallen head over heels for Harley (Ride: 2020 FXLRS). Whatever they've been doing, it's worked on me. And as a new rider, it's kind of frustrating how older riders/people with a lot of experience with the brand do nothing by bad mouth and complain about corporate, marketing, and branding. Why not root for the brand? Why not support what it's trying to do? It's made some mis-steps, sure, but what brand hasn't? For an American brand to have lasted this long, in this market, is a true testament to the strength of Harley, its culture, and its community. And I am forever proud to be a part of it.
