  • Way back in 2005 I started making this movie when I was asked by a few friends to put a video together. I first put it on CD and gave them away and then in 2011, I was able to get DSL here in the bush. So here is this old movie cut down from 3 parts into 1 to help you see how to build your own dredge. By using the ways laid out in this movie and my other movies you will have everything that you need to build a dredge of any size on your own.

    excellent video as usual Reed, ive been going back and forth on dredges for awhile now but i think ive settled on a proline 4 inch partly by learning from folks like yourself. I going used but its a proline 4inch with the GX 200 and HP 400 pump complete with all the bells and whistles a bit on the pricey side but i like it, it just speaks to me lol.

    Reed, I have looked at many videos on building your own dredge but I like yours the best!.... You make it easier for the average guy to build something that will work and you show how it can be done on a budget.... Could I get your opinion on my specific needs?, I live in Branson Missouri and want to build a dredge to collect fishing weights, coins, bullets and rings that swimmers and fishermen have lost over the years.... I have been doing this by hand for two years and I work the clear streams and dig stuff out of the cracks in the bedrock and have found lots of coins and rings in the gravel too.... I built a hookah and can stay down for about 4 hours at a time, and use pumps on floats to help blast away silt and gravel to speed things up a bit. I lose things because I can't control the water blast very well. I have a 5" suction nozzle and built a short 5" submerged dredge but have not tried it out yet.... I only have an 8 hp 4" trash pump and don't know if this will work or not... I am hoping to keep it submerged... Any ideas?... Jeff

If possible one obrazavatelen clip How construct a 5 inch Power Jet. thank you in advance

    My 5" submerged dredge is made from 5" exhaust pipe inside of 12" plastic culvert with a grizzly and a single 2 inch riffle...The whole thing is about 5 feet long.... Jeff

    Hi Reed, is that a 6 inch or 8 inch dredge? i am building one in Argentina.

  • @davidbean5807
    @davidbean5807 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Liked the look of your dredge I was wondering why you didn't add a couple of bicycle wheels on the ends by the thirty gallon drums and make them where they could be slid down or pulled up to make carrying easier by just lifting from the sluice box end and rolling it from location to location. Sort of like a deer drag. Looks like a very good design though overall.

    • @ReedLukens
      @ReedLukens  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have wheels but I don't use them on is one because it's 7' wide when put together and the trails that I'm on are way too narrow. So I drive it and then run what I need to in a wheelbarrow.

    • @davidbean5807
      @davidbean5807 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the design. I feel sort of like you it's more about function than anything else.

    how important is the angle of sluice box ? I'm building a 3'' crashbox style dredge with old 5hp b&s engine and an old gold king pump not sure of size of pump 1 1/2'' x 2". should i use standard 1" per foot ? thanks for the video

    • @ReedLukens
      @ReedLukens  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the old riffles, 1" per foot is a good place to start. My movie on building a pump platform will also work great for a 3" or you just need 4 15 gallon barrels

    Hey Reed I like you and what yer a sayin...It's like candy at a store... they put the good stuff behind glass. Yeah you set the value. Your value is ease of transport, cost of parts. Say you get in a hurry and heaven forbid forget a piece of the tubes that support the barrels.... or lose a pipe off the back o the truck... Not a big deal, cheaply resolved. Right? What I saying is don't cut yourself down... you got a mechine that's producing right?..

    I have a 4" pump with a 28"W-48"long and i have 6 of the same drums like you have but white.And a aluminum frame. if i use a smaller water hose like a 3"in to and 4 inch pipe will it speed up the 4" inch suction for a better dredge .or just leave it all at 4" pipe.i would like to have your setup.
    thank you

    any advise on sluice width for single stage 5" running a single gx270/hp500?

    • @ReedLukens
      @ReedLukens  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on riffles, 20" is standard for standard Hungarian, but with dovetails instead like we built in this video, 22" would be fine :)

      I got most of the barrels from work and bought 2 new 15's at Capital Drum in Roseville. Then if you look at my how to build a floating pump platform clip, You can get those for free at a lot of car washes - th-cam.com/video/qQiUJ9fwgsk/w-d-xo.html
