Looks like there is an error on the weight for the marmot superalloy. Some websites are incorrectly showing it as 2 lbs. 11 oz. it’s actually 2 lbs. 4 oz. all in. That includes the stuff sacks, poles and stakes.

Just a suggestion but when showing the interior, it really helps if you at least have the sleeping pad in there. Once you put in the Nemo Tensor and are up off the ground 3 inches, you might find some of the smaller tents unbearably small.
European especially UK brands are generally still green so we can wild camp without drawing attention or spoiling views for others; Terra nova, Wild Country (terra nova), hilleberg
I bought the Suma 2 for my solo trip on the Wonderland Trail last fall. It was great! Perfect size for me (I’m 6’1”) and my gear. I liked the size and low weight for the price. I’d definitely recommend for any solo backpackers on a budget!
My backpacking tent is a Sierra Designs tent that was my moms from the 90s. It’s heavier and larger than a modern tent would be but it was free and still is in great quality despite being 30 years old
I have had one for 5-6 years and no complaints . I like that it is freestanding and easy to setup. It is great for shorter backpacking trips where weight isn't as important . I do wish that I could find aluminum poles for it though
Hyke and Byke Zion 2p is like $100. I have used it for motorcycle camping for months. It is a little bigger than these in its stuff sack, but in a compression bag, it works great. Two vestibules, and it can actually sleep 2, comfortably. Definitely worth a look!
Thank you Dan. Six Moon Designs has the Skyscape Scout 2.5 lbs solo tent using 2 trekking poles for $145. Also on Amazon is the MIER (Lanshan) Ultralight 1 person tent 2.2 lbs for $119, or the 2 person version 2.8 lbs $159 and both use trekking poles.
My uncle bought his clip flashlite tent in the late 80's and he has used that thing for over 20 years!! They are great little tents! His was the one man but that tent saved us on a trip where my tent leaked and we both had to stuff inside that thing and it kept us cramped lol but dry!! My only quam with sierra designs is their colors. Please sierra make some of these designs in more subdued colors!!! Browns, green, greys!! Or make a different design that is specific to these colors?! Either way would be nice to see and they will sell in my opinion!! Also Eureka has made great tents for years too!! One of the few affordable tents with taped seams and wind tested!! Or is that colman lol? Either way their nice! My buddies use them! Thanks Dan good stuff man! Stay safe! Hike on!!
Back country to this day is THE BEST online shopping experience i have ever had. You really feel that the people care! Feeling that youre buying from people who care and not just some automated lifeless process where you feel like nobody is paying any attention is great.
FWIW, pretty much any 2P tent is a glorified 1P tent ☺️. And a 3P is a glorified 2P, etc. Thanks for the cheaper options though! How many tents are too many? Asking for a friend whose wife is telling him he has enough hiking equipment 😉🙃

Not sure how tall you are, but I'm curious to know if you could give me some indication on whether or not you think it would fit someone my size? 88" tents can be hit or miss for me depending on the slope of the walls.

Dan, I just purchased a 2 person Zion tent from Hyke & Byke. $99.97 on sale right now thru the company or thru Amazon. I realize it's kind of heavy but there will be 2 of us carrying it. I would love for you to do a review on this tent sometime in the near future. My grandson and I are planning on the CT next year since we got shut out this year. Love all the info in your videos.
I just got my sierra designs high side. I’m 5’6 and it seems perfect for me. It is small but the quality is great. My favorite feature is the vestibule that can turn into a canopy when you stake it out with trekking poles or some sticks. I chill under it with my chair and drink my coffee. But yes. It’s a glorified bivy, in a good way.
I'm 5'1" and petite. They are all big enough for me. I love internal pockets, easy set up, a big vestibule, and an easy way to watch the stars on clear nights.
Sierra Designs is the backpacking/camping brand that nobody talks about. My dad bought a "2 person" SD Orion AST back in the early 2000s based on advice from an REI salesman. He used it extensively for motorcycle touring. I still use it for single-person treks. It's very similar in shape/design to that Clip Flashlight tent in this video. But, the tent is light, easy to set up, tall & roomy, and just a great tent for solo camping (though you could squeeze 2 inside it). I have not tested it in heavy rain ... and, after ~15 years, it probably could stand to be re-proofed. If I had to buy a new tent today, I'd look at Marmot (have some great stuff and always seem to be able to find on sale), Sierra Designs, and Paria (based on the reviews Dan Becker has given in the past 2 years).
I bought the Naturehike VIK for about $140. One person, single wall. Weighs in at about 2.5lbs. Decent sized front vestibule and a smaller one in the back. Although it’s a single wall, I’ve found that it has good ventilation and develops very little condensation. Only had it out in the rain once but there were no issues.
I have the big Agnes now thanks to this video. I got it for $170. It’s been so awesome for the cost! I can’t believe their other tents are so expensive. The weight is pretty good for that life time warranty!
I have a eureka Suma 3. Love it. Still only weighs 5lbs. Never had an issue but like you said says 3 man I would do it 2 man at most. Vestibule is great to put your gear out. Great reviews.
Still using my 35ish-year-old North Face Bullfrog when I have to go to ground or when one of my kids so desires. Just snapped the elastic on one of my poles. Time to repair. Never a drop inside this performer. Just camp a season, seam seal, and repeat. Love seeing the new gear, though. I have gone full on hammock. Nice to be off of the ground. Hammock, tarp, and straps come in way below these tents.
I am glad to say I have viewed your videos for several years with much enjoyment. Here are a couple that may excite your interest. Dan Dursten's X-Mid 1P @ 1lb 12 oz for $200 USD and the X-Mid 2P @ 2lb 7oz for $280 USD. I own both because of the functionality for extended treks.
I had a eureka solitaire for years but it was too small for comfort and not very stableeureka Suma 2 for probably 10 years and I've slept in it hundreds of times. I love that thing. Also has titanium poles so they won't degrade. I think the thing was still under 4 lbs.
I have the Suma 2 that I got for $109, or maybe even $99 after rebate from Eureka when they first came out. It is a nice tent if you are OK with one door and very sturdy. But, the fact of the matter is that the lanshan 1, or 2 or the pro versions are by far the best value in this area (I have a 1 pro also). They are well under $200 and very light and well put together. For anyone who is OK with a non free standing tent and weight and value is important, these are certainly worth a look.
I have the eureka suma 2,... love it,.. use it with my 6 foot 3 son, no problem. Slept in torrential down pour 4 days Pacific Northwest in grass, no footprint,...no problem. Even when it is gloomy outside, the green is bright and cheery

If I have to crawl on my knees to get into a tent, it’s off the list. Also, I need to be able to setup the tent in rain in such a way that I don’t soak the inside via mesh screen: rainfly either first or attach the rainfly before setup. Would be very helpful seeing you get in them and a few shots during setup. Maybe setup a sprinkler and try setting them up and check how much rain is inside!
The snugpak ionosphere 1 person is a great option too, I've used it in all kinds of weather and has a high waterrepellency, it's not a bivy but it's not really a tent it's sort of both but it's not too pricey, worth checking out too, con's is you can't sit up in it and it's not freestanding
Just a small comment. I wouldn't consider $200 a budget tent. I think all the tents in my inventory were bought for under $200. My favorite solo tent is the REI Quarterdome 1, which if you get at the REI brand sale is sub-$200. They've come out with the trekking pole tents this year as well. All of the ALPS and Kelty tents are mostly in that budget range and we buy those for my son's scout troop. I just bought a Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo and Duo to see if I like a trekking pole single wall - both purchased for under $200 (and I'm . I know you can't get these at Backcountry, but are still worth noting. Suggestion: you might do some reviews of cottage industry tents and packs - Zpacks, Hyperlite, Six Moons, LiteAF, etc.
I have a feeling that we will see you using the Marmot Super Alloy tent on future backpacking trips! Great video Dan, from a Dad in the UK who has been inspired by you to out backpacking when this pandemic is over.
A great way to get a lightweight tent for a budget price is to share it with a friend. I bought the Kelty Grand Mesa (4lb) legitimately 2-person tent for ~$100. One guy carries the tent, the other guy carries the poles and fly.
Great review! Im sure many will like the more spacious ones. Weight is a big deal to us. Luv Sierra high side tent if I had to get one I would go with this one. Bought one similar for my son years ago. Borrowed it for a canoe trip and it was awesome. Plent of room for one person and gear. Also it would be great for teens. Kids grow up and want their own, you know.
If people don't mind the extra weight, I've had good success with the Hyke & Byke Zion 2 ($99 on Amazon). Sadly, it's NOT ultralight (weighing in at about 5lbs), but that kind of comes with the budget cost. They have a 1p version as well.
The colors ... eyes burning, burning!! Are we on the trails and in the woods, or are we at Chuck E Cheese? I'm all up on earth tones... do these companies even make earth tones? These days several good affordable options out there in under 3-1/2 pound tents that would be nice. One Tigris has some awesome tents imho. These colors!!! Might as well all be safety orange!
Plus I'm also not a fan of the see-thru materials they use. Glow in the dark tents that can't be missed and everyone can see you. Most everyone has their 'luxury' item or two that they take on an extended trip, I'll opt for 2 more pounds (6 lb max) to have non-see through, earth tone, solid material at least 1/3 way up the sides. So I'm easily able to get this combination at a reasonable price. BTW, thanks Dan, another great video, though I don't like these particular choices for me, I think for lighter weight options, it helps the people who follow the thru-hiker channels where $900 is their reasonable tent choice. One thing people should realize that these tent manufacturers are known to keep you dry in wet weather. There are many 'failed' videos on the $50 tents that were exposed to rain.
I normally don't like bright or dark colored tent, but that Marmot tent is quite pretty and I imagine the blue mesh looks nice when staring at the sky.
Dan, you need to check out the REI half dome 2. It doesn’t fit your parameters for this video bc it’s about 5 lbs (but nether does the marmot you showed). I’m a tent geek, and I bought the half dome 2 skeptically, but it’s become my favorite tent. I got it on sale for 159 I think it was.
Bought a Sierra designs tent on eBay for $28. Awesome. Bought another at a garage sale for $20. Than another at Kiwanis sale for TEN DOLLARS. 3.4 lbs, 2 man. I'm tent rich..(got 6 more tents too)
Nice array of tents, Dan. However, being retired my tents (6-man, 2-man, 1-person) are sub-century mark in price, except the 6-man, and I love them. What I paid for my Aqua Quest tarps I could have bought three more tents. My favorite tent is a Hewolf I bought on a whim from Amazon for $89. It's a one person tent with double doors and weighs 3lbs 8oz. I figured if it lasted a season I'd be lucky. Well three seasons later it has withstood heavy rains, snow (up to 6 inches so far) and unintentional abuse such as packed wet in a hurry. Another purchase consideration is color as I prefer more of the earth tones and camouflage (for stealth camping). It's hard to hide a Teletubby colored tent :) I recently bought a tent cot and It's a 30 second set up. Great for overland camping considering that initially it was intended for ATV or UTV camping. My favorite camping is still with a hammock whether overlanding or backpacking. Our "get well date" can't come soon enough!
You should take a look at the new REI Flash Air tent. Looks like the list price is over $200 but it was just on sale for $189. The specs look great but I haven't seen a detailed review. REI brand items often go on sale for 20-25%. Anyway love your videos!
Great review and holy schnikes, I totally forgot about the Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight. That's a great little tent, especially for motorcycle camping.
Hey Dan, been subscribed for a while, just some small feedback because I love your content and look up to your advice. I notice in basically all of your videos you address backpackers as men, including this video at 7:16, "this tent is for the guy..." Just reminding you that women do hike too and also watch your videos. I know to some this seems overly picky and I'll probably get accused of being offended but it's not about that. It's just that as a woman you do notice all those little times the hiking community leaves you out and no single one is a big deal but over a lifetime they add up to the message that hiking is for dudes. And as a public figure you can help us feel a tiny bit more welcome by doing really simple things like using more inclusive words. Anyway, thanks for an awesome video, will definitely be checking those tents out!
Do you really feel like he is excluding you when he says "guys?" I'm serious... are you sitting there watching this video thinking to yourself.... "I really wish us girls would be included too." Get over yourself. When people address other as "guys" it doesn't mean just men. It means everyone.
Timely for me as I am looking to buy a new tent. But I am torn between getting one of those pricey ul wt ones and going it heavier, again. So here I sit in quarantine searching for just the right tent for when it's back to normal. But, I still haven't found what I've been looking for. What I really need is a tent that is bomb proof, or at least more bomber then most tents that I see out there today and which is still under 5 pounds. One with total to the ground coverage so when it rains the water doesn't bounce up and into the tent and so the poles are totally covered 'cause I have found that sooner or later water is wicked into the tent where the poles attach to the floor. I know that this last can be avoided with a hiking pole tent, but I am just not convinced that they are stable and weather proof in a storm.
Have you tried the ALPS Mountaineering lynx 2 tent? I absolutely love it, double vestibule, roomy 1.7 person tent I would say. You should review it also currently very cheap I got mine for only 99 dollars!!! Seam sealed, bucket floor.

The Sierra Flashlight is like the Eureka Spitfire 2 with the exception of the head and foot bathtub floor cut short to be straight across where the Spitfire goes to a point at the head and foot
Man, I used to be an ounce counter and I have a couple super expensive tents, and then I found the current walmart single person backpacking tent for thirty bucks. It is nowy go-to tent. A little heavier, but more roomy and comfortable to be in.

Hey Dan, love the videos. I'm looking for a 3-person tent for my wife and I and debating between a cheaper tent vs a more expensive tent. Just wanted to come back and comment to say that the Suma 3 is on sale now in Canada for $175, and I just laugh because the Superalloy is $680!!! Haha! So a bit of a difference compared to the comparables you included in your video. I just bought the Suma 3 and the Salt Creek UL3 ($425) to compare and just see what you get for more than twice the price; for one, the Salt Creek has three doors vs the one door on the Suma. It's funny cause they weigh virtually the same thing! We'll see.
This is Great I came into Camping with my wife so I had to learn this trade on the spot, I can't wait to go camping in a light version with 2 kids every extra pound makes a difference Coleman is nice but I want only what we need nothing extra day hike or whatever
I got a 70 liter decathlon trekking backpack, their 3.3 R valued sleeping pad, so many stuff even a trekking chair that fits in backpack easily but I still not sure what tent to choose as most seem so heavy / hard to fit in backpack. And even worse, every single ultra light (which isnt trully UL xD) all say "dont leave in the sun for long as UL materials are vulnerable to sun exposure and will reduce their durability" so yea I need one UL tent on the cheap for 2 person that isnt afraid of the sun
You need to include if it’s freestanding or semi -freestanding. Big difference for air travel so you don’t need stakes and thus check your bag versus carry on.
The Mountain Glo in that Big Agnes Tent is awesome. You need to take that out some time and try it at night. What I like about it is the fact that it lights up the entire tent on the inside as well as the vestibule area. I have broke camp and packed up with just the light from the Mountain Glo lights. It's really cool.
I just bought my first Sierra Designs tent last week! the Sweet Suit 3 person. I am impressed with the roominess. Me, my 8 year old, my 11 year old, and our lab all have plenty of space for a little more than 4 lbs and under $300.00 ( probably should have waited 2 more days to use my REI coupon though- oops)! Very impressive tent.
How about the River Country Products 2.2 or 2.0. No vestibule but it's still a fabulous little 2 man trekking pole tent for less than $60 and scales at 2.6 lbs. You can't beat it if you're starting out and on a budget.
Have a look at naturehike tents. I have the mongar 2 man which is 1.9kg & cost me £92. By far the most spacious tent I've had we 2 entrances & big vestibules. Nothing beats my best buy thought, 1.6kg £15 proaction hike lite/tiger paws 1 man!
Nice to see marmot stepping up. Great low budget options. You can always fine Sierra designs tents on sale at BC and other retailers... looking for better deals check out gear trader, all the major retailers such as Back Country dumped tons of tents and have smoking deals on BA, Sierra designs and marmot tents...

Budget if you like Big Agnes’s try the Naturehike cloud up 2. Have it really liked it as 1 person shelter. Trekking pole I have the Dan Durston Xped 1p. From drop. It also comes in 2p now. Both less than 200. I have followed and wanted the Lanshan 2. I will probably give my son the naturehike and get this one next to try. Winter camping I got my eye on a luxe mini peak with stove Jack. Dan ask Devin about this one and see how it works for next winter in Wisconsin!

Now they need to start making tents in earth tones or subdued colors again. When I’m out hiking or camping I don’t like looking like a neon sign.

Dark colors add heat. Many an reflective shell would be good.
I got a Suma2 for myself and my 40Lb dog, loving it. 68D poly floor/fly for those puppy paws. Great weight for the room IMO

I am same height and it is a real positive for camping (and fitting in a bath :) I am looking at the Sierra Designs Meteor with star gazing feature.

He used it extensively for motorcycle touring. I still use it for single-person treks. It's very similar in shape/design to that Clip Flashlight tent in this video. But, the tent is light, easy to set up, tall & roomy, and just a great tent for solo camping (though you could squeeze 2 inside it). I have not tested it in heavy rain ... and, after ~15 years, it probably could stand to be re-proofed.
If I had to buy a new tent today, I'd look at Marmot (have some great stuff and always seem to be able to find on sale), Sierra Designs, and Paria (based on the reviews Dan Becker has given in the past 2 years).

I bought the Naturehike VIK for about $140. One person, single wall. Weighs in at about 2.5lbs. Decent sized front vestibule and a smaller one in the back. Although it’s a single wall, I’ve found that it has good ventilation and develops very little condensation.
Only had it out in the rain once but there were no issues.
I have the big Agnes now thanks to this video. I got it for $170. It’s been so awesome for the cost! I can’t believe their other tents are so expensive. The weight is pretty good for that life time warranty!
I have a eureka Suma 3. Love it. Still only weighs 5lbs. Never had an issue but like you said says 3 man I would do it 2 man at most. Vestibule is great to put your gear out. Great reviews.

Still using my 35ish-year-old North Face Bullfrog when I have to go to ground or when one of my kids so desires. Just snapped the elastic on one of my poles. Time to repair. Never a drop inside this performer. Just camp a season, seam seal, and repeat. Love seeing the new gear, though. I have gone full on hammock. Nice to be off of the ground. Hammock, tarp, and straps come in way below these tents.

I am glad to say I have viewed your videos for several years with much enjoyment. Here are a couple that may excite your interest. Dan Dursten's X-Mid 1P @ 1lb 12 oz for $200 USD and the X-Mid 2P @ 2lb 7oz for $280 USD. I own both because of the functionality for extended treks.
I just got my X-Mid 2P, so excited to take it out! Set up is super easy and so spacious inside. Incredibly light weight. Can't wait!!
I had a eureka solitaire for years but it was too small for comfort and not very stableeureka Suma 2 for probably 10 years and I've slept in it hundreds of times. I love that thing. Also has titanium poles so they won't degrade. I think the thing was still under 4 lbs.
I have the Suma 2 that I got for $109, or maybe even $99 after rebate from Eureka when they first came out. It is a nice tent if you are OK with one door and very sturdy. But, the fact of the matter is that the lanshan 1, or 2 or the pro versions are by far the best value in this area (I have a 1 pro also). They are well under $200 and very light and well put together. For anyone who is OK with a non free standing tent and weight and value is important, these are certainly worth a look.
I have the eureka suma 2,... love it,.. use it with my 6 foot 3 son, no problem. Slept in torrential down pour 4 days Pacific Northwest in grass, no footprint,...no problem. Even when it is gloomy outside, the green is bright and cheery

I'd like to see them all left out in the rain for a few nights to see if they leak. All tents look cool. But how do they perform?
If I have to crawl on my knees to get into a tent, it’s off the list. Also, I need to be able to setup the tent in rain in such a way that I don’t soak the inside via mesh screen: rainfly either first or attach the rainfly before setup. Would be very helpful seeing you get in them and a few shots during setup. Maybe setup a sprinkler and try setting them up and check how much rain is inside!

The snugpak ionosphere 1 person is a great option too, I've used it in all kinds of weather and has a high waterrepellency, it's not a bivy but it's not really a tent it's sort of both but it's not too pricey, worth checking out too, con's is you can't sit up in it and it's not freestanding

Just a small comment. I wouldn't consider $200 a budget tent. I think all the tents in my inventory were bought for under $200. My favorite solo tent is the REI Quarterdome 1, which if you get at the REI brand sale is sub-$200. They've come out with the trekking pole tents this year as well. All of the ALPS and Kelty tents are mostly in that budget range and we buy those for my son's scout troop. I just bought a Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo and Duo to see if I like a trekking pole single wall - both purchased for under $200 (and I'm . I know you can't get these at Backcountry, but are still worth noting. Suggestion: you might do some reviews of cottage industry tents and packs - Zpacks, Hyperlite, Six Moons, LiteAF, etc.
I have a feeling that we will see you using the Marmot Super Alloy tent on future backpacking trips! Great video Dan, from a Dad in the UK who has been inspired by you to out backpacking when this pandemic is over.

A great way to get a lightweight tent for a budget price is to share it with a friend. I bought the Kelty Grand Mesa (4lb) legitimately 2-person tent for ~$100. One guy carries the tent, the other guy carries the poles and fly.
I would like to add the Six Moons Design Scout. It’s about $150 for a one man 3lb or so shelter. Thanks for the great video and Merry Christmas!

Luv Sierra high side tent if I had to get one I would go with this one. Bought one similar for my son years ago. Borrowed it for a canoe trip and it was awesome. Plent of room for one person and gear. Also it would be great for teens. Kids grow up and want their own, you know.
If people don't mind the extra weight, I've had good success with the Hyke & Byke Zion 2 ($99 on Amazon). Sadly, it's NOT ultralight (weighing in at about 5lbs), but that kind of comes with the budget cost. They have a 1p version as well.

The colors ... eyes burning, burning!! Are we on the trails and in the woods, or are we at Chuck E Cheese? I'm all up on earth tones... do these companies even make earth tones? These days several good affordable options out there in under 3-1/2 pound tents that would be nice. One Tigris has some awesome tents imho. These colors!!! Might as well all be safety orange!
Plus I'm also not a fan of the see-thru materials they use. Glow in the dark tents that can't be missed and everyone can see you. Most everyone has their 'luxury' item or two that they take on an extended trip, I'll opt for 2 more pounds (6 lb max) to have non-see through, earth tone, solid material at least 1/3 way up the sides. So I'm easily able to get this combination at a reasonable price. BTW, thanks Dan, another great video, though I don't like these particular choices for me, I think for lighter weight options, it helps the people who follow the thru-hiker channels where $900 is their reasonable tent choice. One thing people should realize that these tent manufacturers are known to keep you dry in wet weather. There are many 'failed' videos on the $50 tents that were exposed to rain.
It would be really cool to do an update since most of these tents are out of stock on the website.
Also, a bonus tip would for taller campers (6'6)

I normally don't like bright or dark colored tent, but that Marmot tent is quite pretty and I imagine the blue mesh looks nice when staring at the sky.

Dan, you need to check out the REI half dome 2. It doesn’t fit your parameters for this video bc it’s about 5 lbs (but nether does the marmot you showed). I’m a tent geek, and I bought the half dome 2 skeptically, but it’s become my favorite tent. I got it on sale for 159 I think it was.
Brian Smith how does the half dome do in the summer months for ventilation? This is one I’m looking at. Wish it was a little lighter.

Nice array of tents, Dan. However, being retired my tents (6-man, 2-man, 1-person) are sub-century mark in price, except the 6-man, and I love them. What I paid for my Aqua Quest tarps I could have bought three more tents. My favorite tent is a Hewolf I bought on a whim from Amazon for $89. It's a one person tent with double doors and weighs 3lbs 8oz. I figured if it lasted a season I'd be lucky. Well three seasons later it has withstood heavy rains, snow (up to 6 inches so far) and unintentional abuse such as packed wet in a hurry. Another purchase consideration is color as I prefer more of the earth tones and camouflage (for stealth camping). It's hard to hide a Teletubby colored tent :) I recently bought a tent cot and It's a 30 second set up. Great for overland camping considering that initially it was intended for ATV or UTV camping. My favorite camping is still with a hammock whether overlanding or backpacking. Our "get well date" can't come soon enough!
You should take a look at the new REI Flash Air tent. Looks like the list price is over $200 but it was just on sale for $189. The specs look great but I haven't seen a detailed review. REI brand items often go on sale for 20-25%. Anyway love your videos!
Great review and holy schnikes, I totally forgot about the Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight. That's a great little tent, especially for motorcycle camping.
Hey Dan, been subscribed for a while, just some small feedback because I love your content and look up to your advice. I notice in basically all of your videos you address backpackers as men, including this video at 7:16, "this tent is for the guy..." Just reminding you that women do hike too and also watch your videos. I know to some this seems overly picky and I'll probably get accused of being offended but it's not about that. It's just that as a woman you do notice all those little times the hiking community leaves you out and no single one is a big deal but over a lifetime they add up to the message that hiking is for dudes. And as a public figure you can help us feel a tiny bit more welcome by doing really simple things like using more inclusive words.
Anyway, thanks for an awesome video, will definitely be checking those tents out!

Timely for me as I am looking to buy a new tent. But I am torn between getting one of those pricey ul wt ones and going it heavier, again. So here I sit in quarantine searching for just the right tent for when it's back to normal. But, I still haven't found what I've been looking for. What I really need is a tent that is bomb proof, or at least more bomber then most tents that I see out there today and which is still under 5 pounds. One with total to the ground coverage so when it rains the water doesn't bounce up and into the tent and so the poles are totally covered 'cause I have found that sooner or later water is wicked into the tent where the poles attach to the floor. I know that this last can be avoided with a hiking pole tent, but I am just not convinced that they are stable and weather proof in a storm.
Have you tried the ALPS Mountaineering lynx 2 tent? I absolutely love it, double vestibule, roomy 1.7 person tent I would say. You should review it also currently very cheap I got mine for only 99 dollars!!! Seam sealed, bucket floor.
I have an old eureka spitfire stuffed in my closet of hiking gear. Those are all good choices in my book. I use the tigarwall 2 as well.

The Sierra Flashlight is like the Eureka Spitfire 2 with the exception of the head and foot bathtub floor cut short to be straight across where the Spitfire goes to a point at the head and foot
Man, I used to be an ounce counter and I have a couple super expensive tents, and then I found the current walmart single person backpacking tent for thirty bucks. It is nowy go-to tent. A little heavier, but more roomy and comfortable to be in.
Hey Dan, I'm very interested in the Suma 2 but I'm 6'5" and not able to find one to test-fit myself in it. Not sure how tall you are, but I'm curious to know if you could give me some indication on whether or not you think it would fit someone my size? 88" tents can be hit or miss for me depending on the slope of the walls. Hey Dan, love the videos. I'm looking for a 3-person tent for my wife and I and debating between a cheaper tent vs a more expensive tent. Just wanted to come back and comment to say that the Suma 3 is on sale now in Canada for $175, and I just laugh because the Superalloy is $680!!! Haha! So a bit of a difference compared to the comparables you included in your video. I just bought the Suma 3 and the Salt Creek UL3 ($425) to compare and just see what you get for more than twice the price; for one, the Salt Creek has three doors vs the one door on the Suma. It's funny cause they weigh virtually the same thing! We'll see.
Backcountry is a great company to purchase from, they will always make sure to price match and lead you in the right direction if need be.

I got a 70 liter decathlon trekking backpack, their 3.3 R valued sleeping pad, so many stuff even a trekking chair that fits in backpack easily but I still not sure what tent to choose as most seem so heavy / hard to fit in backpack. And even worse, every single ultra light (which isnt trully UL xD) all say "dont leave in the sun for long as UL materials are vulnerable to sun exposure and will reduce their durability" so yea I need one UL tent on the cheap for 2 person that isnt afraid of the sun

You need to include if it’s freestanding or semi -freestanding. Big difference for air travel so you don’t need stakes and thus check your bag versus carry on.

The Mountain Glo in that Big Agnes Tent is awesome. You need to take that out some time and try it at night. What I like about it is the fact that it lights up the entire tent on the inside as well as the vestibule area. I have broke camp and packed up with just the light from the Mountain Glo lights. It's really cool.

I just bought my first Sierra Designs tent last week! the Sweet Suit 3 person. I am impressed with the roominess. Me, my 8 year old, my 11 year old, and our lab all have plenty of space for a little more than 4 lbs and under $300.00 ( probably should have waited 2 more days to use my REI coupon though- oops)! Very impressive tent.
How about the River Country Products 2.2 or 2.0. No vestibule but it's still a fabulous little 2 man trekking pole tent for less than $60 and scales at 2.6 lbs. You can't beat it if you're starting out and on a budget.

Have a look at naturehike tents. I have the mongar 2 man which is 1.9kg & cost me £92. By far the most spacious tent I've had we 2 entrances & big vestibules.
Nothing beats my best buy thought, 1.6kg £15 proaction hike lite/tiger paws 1 man!

You can always fine Sierra designs tents on sale at BC and other retailers... looking for better deals check out gear trader, all the major retailers such as Back Country dumped tons of tents and have smoking deals on BA, Sierra designs and marmot tents...

Trekking pole I have the Dan Durston Xped 1p. From drop. It also comes in 2p now. Both less than 200.
I have followed and wanted the Lanshan 2. I will probably give my son the naturehike and get this one next to try.
Winter camping I got my eye on a luxe mini peak with stove Jack.
