I like how faithful they were to his personality in this game, he's still always willing to help, always stepping in to try to make things better.
Yeah, I love the way he gets down to Marlene's level when talking to her and reassures her that he's open to hearing what she has to say.
When Elmyra initially snaps at him, he doesn't react defensively or snap back. He just maintains his healthy attitude.
He compliments and encourages Cloud for taking charge during their team-up because he's known Cloud to be shy and reserved.
Zack's the older bro everyone wishes they had.

But Physically, he made the Top Version that surpassed that of Sepheroth's.
Hojo tried the to made Top Tier Soldiers that surpassed Sepheroth. An update to flaws of Sepheroth.
So both Cloud & Zack were test subjects but Zack rejected his new experiment due to him already a soldier. So he remained the same.
But Cloud passed the experiment & became The Best Version of Solider up to date by Hojo's design but he was deemed as failure by Hojo because he never woke up and fallen into a coma.
During this time... Zack was telling him his own life story... That's why Cloud memories is confused with Zack's because he heard those stories from Zack and assuming it was his own.
But he woke up after Zack broke both of them out of Hojo's Lab.
So technically... He's the only soldier that surpassed everyone. Even the mighty One-wing Angel.
The issue is... Hojo want all new Soliders to be control by Sepheroth. So all newly made soldier were placed under psychic-link that Sepheroth can control them. That's why sometimes Sepheroth can takes over Cloud's body.

I loved this scene because their friendship is really special to me. I did feel that when Cloud said it, it felt out of character. Considering how much he resents Shinra and often corrects people by saying he's an "Ex-soldier," I was surprised to hear him say that. 😅
A lot of marines hate what the US does in other countries.
But never do they dishonor the brotherhood. And always keep in mind that one's a marine, always a marine!

True but I think that meeting 1st Class SOLDIER Zack might have been one of best things to ever happen to him so it's more of a homage to the man who quite literally put everything on the line for him than it is Cloud liking Soldier. The same could probably be said about Zack too since the sword and that speech is an homage to Angeal and the fact that he swore to uphold his ideals and legacy. Plus by the end of Crisis Core, Zack really doesn't like Shinra or SOLDIER given what be tells Cloud about them earlier, what he learns and goes through in Niblehime and that shinra literally sent an army to execute him.

I need that Zack & Aerith reunion. Poor Aerith never knew the truth. She never knew what happened to him. The years he lost. That she was always on his mind. Whether they apologize, kiss and make up, or whatever, I just need to see them one more time!
Aerith being a Cetra made it so that she knows he died. She felt when he returned to the life stream. That's why she looks up in a panic when he dies in Crisis Core.

@@david_bytes_ Actually Aerith didn't lie. In the Ultimania books Zack is described as a ladies man who took Cissinei out to dinner a few times even though he thought it might make Aerith Jealous. This also fleshes out why Cissinei had a crush on Zack.
Aerith also assumed he was a ladies man. Aerith just happened to be zacks favorite girl and he eventually grew to like her more. They were teenagers also back then.

That is the core of their designs. when designing the protagonist of FF7 there were 3 design choices. Original was Angeal, then the design changed to Zack and then they changed it once more to Cloud. That's why those three are connected through the Buster Sword.

Funfact : Cloud's ( he is not named yet ) original design was Zack's but Tetsuya redesign him to what we see today as Cloud Strife but the team still use the original design which has long black hair which is Zack today .
and even before Zack's design the first OG hero would have had Angeal's design. That's why Angeal was written to be the original owner of the Buster Sword. The symbolism and tribute to those three designs and their connection to the Buster sword can e seen on the back over of the original Crisis Core with Angeal, Zack and Cloud all placing their hands on the hilt of the Buster Sword.

This just goes to show that even though Cloud took on Zack as his "persona" or sorts they were always connected regardless if it was just because of Hojo experimenting on them both, the fact they were in the same team heading up to the reactor or whatever they have always had a bond no matter what. They were meant to be friends, there was a connection there even if none of the bad stuff happened, the universe were twlling them that they were meant to be friends regardless.

@@taxo If you haven't noticed, that was literally the point, as of the beginning of FF7. The only way that Cloud ever woke up from Mako poisoning was because Zack died. I'll explain.
It's very heavily implied that what Mako poisoning actually is is when the Lifestream, full of the souls of dead people, invades peoples' bodies like a virus if a concentrated amount of it enters them through water (osmosis) which sort of "formats" their soul like a computer hard drive since random people aren't compatible with each others' identities.
When Zack died, and long before that point, he wished to give Cloud his strength because he knew Cloud wanted to be stronger so he could do his duty as a SOLDIER. His soul literally did bleed out into Cloud. Shinra uses the Class system to determine how much Mako a SOLDIER's body can take before they lose their minds and free will. The whole story of Crisis Core, talking about cellular degradation, was because Shinra was trying to see how much of Jenova's soul they could put into people in the exact way that Zack entered Cloud's body, in order to increase their Mako-to-blood threshold. Sephiroth was the only experiment to be stable because his soul couldn't bleed. He had to invite Jenova's presence into his body like how Zack forced his way into Cloud's. That's why Angeal and Genesis started to die to little cuts and why Sephiroth's blood would have killed them.
Zack and Cloud were locked in the basement of Shinra Manor along with Vincent because Shinra thought it was the mansion itself which had finally 'turned Sephiroth into a true Cetra' and since Zack and Cloud had hands in defeating Sephiroth, they thought the both of them could have overcome Jenova's Legacy in their blood in a way that Sephiroth had not been able to. Falling back into the Lifestream in Mideel reversed the process and gave Cloud back what he had lost. It also gave Aerith a way to contact both Zack and Cloud and remain whole. Their bond, their Legacy, Was the "Promised Land". The bond between them.
Sephiroth summoning Meteor was so that his soul could join with and "eat" the Planet's by bleeding the soul out of it just like Shinra did to Cloud. Sephiroth wanted to do what Zack did to Cloud to the Planet. The "stupid living legacy" thing.
It's the subtext of the entire game series. If you think it's "plain stupid", sometimes it's just because you don't understand something when you think that about things. That goes for a lot of things in your life.

@@taxo No, it doesn't mean that Cloud's a tool. It's something soldiers do when their brothers die on the battlefield. they keep going and carry the memories of their fallen brethren. It's also symbolic.
And in Cloud's case with the mako it also imprints Zack's knowledge and memories onto Cloud.

Funny but I think next game. Aerith and Zack r in the same world. She’s still considered the protagonist alongside with cloud. And yes Aerith body died but cloud did save her. But it clearly glitched out as you all saw. Cuz think about it how can sephiroth sword still get deflected. Since ff7 remake trilogy has opened the possibility of multiple worlds. Aerith still alive people. (That’s my theory of the game). The main world being ff original. Hence “Fate” ghost. Story all gonna link back to remake ending. Beating sephiroth and changing fate. Opened up new endings. Cloud been known she gonna die as a narrator or story writer u gotta now keep em alive and not kill em off cuz u allowed them to mentally prepare themselves. Hence even tho cloud rn is suffering from personality disorder and mentally think aerith still alive. Even tho I think he can really c her. It just shows that the build up to her death wasn’t enough to make it sad. Cuz she literally died unexpectedly. One moment “wait I’m alive” next moment ahh wait I’m gonna die.
Cloud will save her in the third game! They showed that scene for a reason lol. They wouldn't taunt us like that

While Steve Burton was AMAZING as Cloud, Cody truly is a worthy successor. However I agree regarding Rick Gomez. Caleb is trying, and improving, and there are times when he sounds alright to good even, but he just can't fully nail it. he still sounds too young for the character.
His voice lacks the weight of experience, ready to charge into the fight blindly. while Rick could carry that weight and you just felt like you could trust whatever his character said when she spoke because of that tone.

Well at the end of Crisis Core, Cloud DOES do the sword prayer on top of the train. He just doesn’t say the words. After doing the prayer, he just says “my name is Cloud Strife, SOLDIER 1st Class”
So, to me, it didn’t seem *that* random here that he’d do the pose or even say the line. It’s still part of his persona.

I MISSEDDDDD ZACKKKKKKKK so muchhhhhhh. I was 10 when I played crisis core on the PsP (never played the of FFVII) so I always tried to find a way to keep Zack alive using and never could😭😭 Zack is my personal fav bc he represents the hero who never got the chance to really be one.
