  • Omnibus F4 Pro V2.1 Solving GPS and Receiver Port Wiring Issues SBUS PPM iNav CleanFlight
    • Omnibus F4 Pro V2.1 So...
    If you have a V2.0 or V3.0 see this video instead
    • Wiring GPS to Omnibus ...
    Note! Magnetometer should not be enabled for planes because it can conflict with the GPS readings for direction. However multirotors must have the mag enabled to use Nav flight modes.
    iNav Cleanflight is fork from regular Cleanflight on Github. It is Cleanflight with GPS navigation added to it.
    If you purchased the version 2.1 of the Omnibus F4 Pro flight controller you may be surprised by the receiver or GPS not working properly when they are both connected at once. The problem arises from a conflict with the receiver port and the port where the GPS is connected. This is not a problem on the other Onibus versions 1,2 or 3. The solution is to move the GPS to a different port than is normally used. This issue and the issue with the receiver port now being on serial/UART poet 6 can send you on a wild goose chase when configuring this board. Chances are if you have a GPS connected you will be using iNav Cleanflight. The iNav CleanFlight Wiki can be a good resource but not always easy to find find what you are look for. I found the solution on the WIki in Issue 2576 and I have posted a link to it below:
    github.com/iNa...
    If you read through the discussion you will see it was a little hard to figure out what the problem was but eventually it became apparent that there was a serial port conflict and the GPS had to be moved to a different port.
    Also included in the issue discussion we find that the FrSky X8R SBUS receiver would not connect without a different version of the firmware than expected.
    I decided to use a D4R-II Receiver in PPM mode instead of the X8R and it connected very easily with standard firmware OmnibusF4V2.
    Luckily you don't have to read all Wiki discussion. Instead just watch this video instead and I think you will understand.

    Thanks to you I also managed to get this board working with GPS-MAG-and a receiver. PPM receivers work, and also checked whether SBUS would, and it does. Happy days. Thanks again Dave!

    I am testing the F4 V2.1 board with INAV on the FT explorer
    This board is quite different from the V2 version and this confused me since I was following the videos that used the V2 board.
    So following advice on Github, the board was finally flashed with OBF4V3 firmware
    The nav modes now operate ok with the GPS and compass enabled together
    These modes will not switch when bench testing unless the compass is enabled
    So far I have flight tested the Horizon and RTH modes with the GPS and compass operating together and the plane flies fine although the throttle setting on RTH seems low
    I'm waiting for the weather to improve so I can test the other nav modes in flight with the compass turned both on and off

    Hi Dave, and Happy New Year.....Good Tutorial, but Im pretty sure that in iNAV (not Cleanflight) when using a Plane, they advise AGAINST using the Compass..This is partly because with a Plane that's always moving, you simply dont need one, especially with an M8n GPS...but more importantly it causes conflict in flight....Same goes for Baro, either the GPS derived altitude OR the Baro, but not both, it will cause problems in flight.

    • @DaveMerc
      @DaveMerc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy New Year! Yes I agree with you (except I like to put open cell foam over the baro and still use it, but that's just my thing). Please understand that this video is not just for planes but for multirotors too so I include all the options (GPS, Compass and Barometer) in case people need that info.
      I am actually putting this board on a quadcopter right now and will do a plane after that. Sorry for the confusion.

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, yes, noted.....The problem is, that people watch your video and will duplicate exactly what you have done....because they are not aware of the differences, or the dangers.
      I'd like to see you use iNAV + GPS on a Multi actually as Id like to try it myself on a Martian Im about to build.

      HI Guys! First of all, thank you for this tutorial, I´m struggling since 3 days on this issue. I installed the Omnibus F4 V2.1 board with M8N Neo GPS on a Nano Talon, a plane. From your conversation above I understood that I should switch off Barometer and Magnetometer in order to avoid conflicts, is that right?
      Regards from Italy!

    • @DaveMerc
      @DaveMerc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For planes yes but for multirotors leave them on. Actually I have been leaving the baro on my planes enabled but placing a piece of open cell foam over it to reduce wind pressure problems. Mag I never use on planes.

    I have fully flight tested my plane with and without the Mag operating.
    It responds without problems in all modes including navmodes, RTH and Failsafe test
    There is no interference between the GPS and the Mag
    When setting up the modes on the bench, the navmodes will not switch on unless the compass is operating so it gives the impression that they are not working with only the GPS enabled

    i have this exact problem on an f4 pro v3. i think it is a clone from banggood? i can only use ppm not sbus or the gps dies? the sbus seemed to conflict with the gps badly using uart1 receiver and uart6 for gps. ppm was a last attempt as it uses less data than sbus and it seems to work now fine? i tried this way but 4 pin jst on v3 is uart1 also so can't use both together.

    The problem I found is that the Spektrum satellite port is uart1, and so is the 4 pin for my gps. I have to go figure out where on earth to find the 6 pin that has uart3/6 so I can use that instead. It was almost plug and play until I hit that bump. You can't reroute resources like with Betaflight.

    Thanks for all your informative videos. How do you tell witch board you have, I ordered the 2.1 from BG, and received a board the other day. The one I received have no 2.1 printed on the back, and the black square thing next to it says 150, on yours it says 100.
    BG no longer has a V2 on their website. As I'm still waiting for stuff to arrive, I can't test it yet, only guess. So is it a V2.1 or another version. Any help will be appreciated.

    Dave, great video. I have setup (not flown yet...weather!) a F4 V2.5 from RTFQ in a EasyStar clone with just a GPS, no compass. This may not apply to the board you are using, but I cannot get RTH, or other NAV modes, to be active even though SW settings move to the selected area. I understand a compass is not required for fixed wing so I wonder if the cause for this is the plane is not moving on my bench so no heading is produced where a compass would??? Any thoughts or experience with this?

    • @DaveMerc
      @DaveMerc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure all the pre-arming checks are green in INav setup. If so then some of the modes should work like altitude hold. If not you might need to calibrate.

    • @seniorblackfox7001
      @seniorblackfox7001 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Failed to mention in my first post but all pre-arming checks are green even the Compass (which I do not have) so may need to look into that. I have another GPS/NAV ordered that should be here tomorrow and will hook that up to see what happens. Thanks

      @DaveMerc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you able to arm the board and spin the motor up. It may have to be armed and have GPS lock before the GPS functions will work.
      Honestly I have never tried RTH on the bench other than seeing that the mode displayed on the OSD in my goggles. I just assumed the craft would need to be flying to use RTH.

      If you are going with a PPM receiver connection (not SBUS) you can still use the OMNIBUSF4PRO firmware however you need to keep in mind that serial port 6 on the v2.1 is used for the receiver port and not connect the GPS to J10 because it causes a conflict with serial 6.

    using PPM instead of SBUS is not a solution just a handicap as speed and channel support is greatly reduced :( there is a modified iNAV where more uart can be used and remapped to different solder points

      One guy posted that INav 1.9 had solved the problem for this board. Hope it's true.

    Why didn’t you just use a gps with a built in magnetometer ?

      It does have a mag on the GPS. It's what is used for the compass part of it.
