    I’d argue that it wasn’t just the attacking Pokémon but also the insane Pokémon draw we had. Dedenne is one of the best cards ever printed, and that along side crobat meant any deck could find whatever they needed turn 1 most of the time (especially before the supporter change)

    Iono and Judge are definitely good for punishing too many cards in opponents hand. Radiant Alakazam
    can also punish opponents with huge damage. Hand Stopper Trainers or a Hand Hammer (Radiant Alakazam)

      The new cards are going to benefit stage 2s so people should get used to it. The deck is only taking advantage of the newly released comeback cards for evolution decks. Their goal is to make it so you have to play decks with many different single prize and ex lines. Every set they’re releasing parts of decks and now we’ll get more dark and fire type support in obsidian flames to counter.

    • @sirens4562
      @sirens4562 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They actually released united wings as a counter too it, but lost box is the reason the deck isn’t succeeding despite it having everything it needs and being fairly balanced.

    As someone who loves TAG TEAM cards (for the artwork and concept), I do have to agree that they were the beginning of the major power jump in recent years. ex’s are looking good to slow down the meta for the fact that no new 3-prizers are being printed, and VMAXES rotating out soon. It would have been cool if TAG TEAMS were played when you have the two Pokémon needed already in play, and perhaps lower them to being worth two prizes because of the amount of work you’d need to put in to get some of them.
    I do have issues with energy costs however in the new Pokémon. My general though process is that one energy equals either a weak attack or setup, two energies is a mediocre attack or a stronger search/effect along with a bit of damage, and three energies and onwards is when you should be using your strong attacks.
    Looking at the new cards *cough cough* _Garchomp ex_ *cough* things are becoming two much. One energy, *160* damage (that’s more than Greninja V-Union, mind you), and acceleration to *three* more energies. It even has the benefit of being a Tera Pokémon, giving it immunity on the bench, and the indirect advantage of having compatibility with Irida. One could argue that it’s a stage two mon, but Rare Candy exists, essentially making it stage one. The only saving grace is that it’s weak to electric, and Miraidon decks are viable, giving them a good winning matchup (BUT, Garchomp ex fits in ground decks, so the winning matchup is actually a losing matchup as long as the opponent as a backup attacker!)
    Okay, my comment has devolved into a rant over the course of it, so I’m sorry! Your video was great and well thought out.

      P.S. I also hate Mew VMAX lol. It’s used EVERYWHERE where I am, so it gets stale fighting them again and again really quickly, especially since every Mew list is pretty much the exact same.

    For sure, finally next year 3 prize pokemon leave standard play. Some of the newer stage 2 ex mons have high hp and amazing abilities however they require setup which makes them, in my opinion, nothing when compared to any of the highly played 3 prize mons. I finally feel like, for the first time in a very long time, the competitive play tcg scene will finally become what it was back when the original ex days (that being AMAZING)

    Kind of funny that you think Iono is expensive because it's playable and not because it's the first ever streamer waifu. Even the prices you showed were for graded cards, which no one is going to be playing. But otherwise a great video!

    • @grafzeppelin4069
      @grafzeppelin4069 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, lol. FA & SIR Iono are expensive primarily because of the waifu factor, not the playability. The (relatively) high cost of Uncommon Iono *IS* because of playability.
      It just sucks that we don't have a moderate-cost full art version (or even a standard holo) for players.

    I'm sorry, I can't get behind any card that encourages topdecking. While Iono does take up a supporter slot, the idea that you can force your opponent down to just one card from potentially a dozen is extremely oppressive and terrible for the game; it lends to games that are purely about what you draw rather than how well you play what you have.
    One of the things I loved about SWLCG was that it allowed players to have a lot of control over their hands- hand management was the name of the game. Cards that took this power away from the opponent were rather costly and limited. Since players always drew back up to (or in rare cases, discarded down to) their reserve value at the start of their turn, players always had a fresh set of options to utilize. This made me realize just how badly the 1-card-per-turn format has been holding back the genre all these years.

    • @jamesctcg
      @jamesctcg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this is an inherient pokemon design issue that iono slightly improves. The difference in play from the same hand in the early game actually does very little to change the game, and the player going first wins most of the time because decks can do literally whatever they want. At least iono makes games more dynamic and difficult to play. I understand your pov though

      @@jamesctcgjust say you like playing lost box lol. If we’re being honest it doesn’t just gate keep “some” decks. It gate keeps ALL new decks from the SV era and nearly all decks from the later SwSh era. Players have to think about lost box when analyzing every new card released ranging from the 60 hp basic to the 340 hp stage 2.

      Then, people said RS Urshifu was "gatekeeping" single prizers; it wasn't true.
      Now, people say Lost Box is "gatekeeping" single prizers; it's not true.
      It's multi-prizers as a mechanic, period. They inherently place less strain on your deck's consistency and card economy. If you go back to Ruby Sapphire Base, the basic multi-prizers at the time were horrible because they didn't yield enough value (damage output, HP) to be worth giving up 2 prizes (among other reasons), and so there wasn't that barrier.
      LB isn't doing the gatekeeping, it's the (currently) exceptional single-prizer-centric deck that breaks past the gate. RS Malamar was able to do the same a couple years back.
