I love this song , ever since I heard it last year I just can't get enough of that voice.
I'm glad you acknowledged the use of silence ate the very beginning, it's amazing how many people don't realise it's the literal sound of silence that starts off the song. The use of silence thru out the song even if only for a second or two is well done. I tear up everytime I hear this song as it just releases emotions. It's a good stress release just listening to his voice but then add the music and video it's phenomenal

Written by Paul Simon in 1964. Originally performed by Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon's explanation:
“One of the biggest hang-ups we have today is the inability of people to communicate, not only on an intellectual level, but on an emotional level as well. So you have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. This is a song about the inability to communicate. It’s called, “The Sound of Silence”. - Paul Simon 1966
You can see/hear him say this before they begin their performance here:

You need to listed to their official live A Reason to Fight and Hold on to Memories, The Light, etc. They have so much out there that is fantastic. This video started my trip down the rabbit hole and I'm now a Disturbed One!

The lyrics of this song are a poem. There's so many ways they can be interpreted. We each find the meaning of this song within us. For reference, the song was written by a young poet and musician early in the 1960s. The conflict of the civil rights era was going on. The president had been assassinated. The Vietnam war was picking up steam. Society was not peaceful. There was no communication between the hippies and boomers. Many groups hated and distrusted each other. I think that's what Paul Simon was addressing in these lyrics. If the song still feels relevant today, that's the magic of poetry. Thank you for your video, sir.

If they don’t play this at my funeral, I’m not going (not my quote, but I fully adopted it). You NEED to listen to the live concert version he did with Myles Kennedy. The Houston concert specifically.

Disturbed is a versatile band. David's voice is incredible. From heavy metal to the softer side. Memories is a great song by Disturbed. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I loved your reaction to this cover, so much symbolism in this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul. This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. "Neon light that split the night", I remember when neon light would turn on there would be a crackling sound thus touched the sound of silence.
Suggestion = The official video by Disturbed “Hold On To Memories” was released Jan 23rd 2020. “Hold on to Memories" is about not only honoring those we’ve lost, but also making the most of our time with those we still have.

Disturbed is my fave band. David is my fave singer. You should react to...The Light, No More, Reason to Fight, Bad Man and Hold On To the Memories. There's so many. And the brand new album they just made is awesome! And I should know cause I own all their albums

Totally agree. The original was a warning. Disturbed's version is frustration that the warning wasn't herded.

This version of the song is a worthy successor to the one by Simon & Garfunkel.

Is that the original artist. I thought it sounded familiar but couldn’t place it

@@dadwhatsfordinner , yes, they were the original writers of this song. They were folk-rock singers & it was very much a warning. Disturbed’s version (to me) is full of anger that the original warning wasn’t heeded.

I think it’s time to introduce you to Pentatonix!, if you haven’t heard them. They do a cover of this song that’s insane. A good introduction would be their cover of “Hallelujah”. Would love it if you could react to that one. Thanks in advance!!

I tried so hard to listen to Pentatonix sing this song, but I can't. I think my mind is prejudiced by the fact we went to see them in concert, a large group of us and it was so bad every single one of us left. I'm kind of mad at it I guess. I think they make a better TH-cam presence than live.

Disturbed's "A Reason to Fight". It's about addiction and the lyrics are awesome. The way it is sung is awesome. David's voice is unmatched in his range and power. ♥️

  • @Melly01

Yes, they are typically more nu metal, but have the ability to do a ton of styles, as you can hear. David Draiman's vocals and technical training are a solid foundation of whatever music they're doing. If you prefer this sound over harder music, maybe go to "A Reason To Fight," or "Hold Onto Memories" or "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You." Those are all a bit more like this. "The Light," is still really positive and uplifting, but with a little harder drive without it being overwhelming. Their music videos are always the way to go, IMO. They do great, artistic videos that support whatever the message of the song is.

if you want some different bands to react to there's powerwolf (my will be done, army of the night), beast in black (from hell with love, moonlight rendezvous), ordan ogan (the things we believe in, december), gloryhammer (hootsforce, rise of the chaos wizards), (and powerman 5000 - when worlds collide)
or could do a sabaton reaction video for the song inmate 4859 (and its history video) don't want to spoil it but be warned inmate 4859's story is a heavy one

Please, please research before you react to anything. I'm so tired of people who don't even know what they're reacting to. You will not gain followers if you don't even know the original song. It's not just a meme.

      @dadwhatsfordinner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

A meme? It’s called a blind reaction for a reason. But thanks for your feedback anyway.
