This is a masterful performance by the great Coleman Hawkins, supported by the fine Norwegian pianist Einar Iversen.. Only a few hundred people have viewed it but it deserves to be seen by many thousands.
A stunning performance by the Father of the tenor saxophone.
I was employed at the Metropol, Oslo in 1960 in the large kitchen on a washing-up machine and again in 1962 with my friend John McEwan who was later transferred to the sister restaurant Frascati. In total I spent several months in Oslo staying in digs in the town. To save enough money to return by boat to England in 1960, I often worked double-shift 16-hour days in the kitchen then walking back from the Metropol at Akersgaten 8 to my digs in Majorstuen though the snow at midnight only to return to work the next morning at 7:00 am. I will never forget my time at the Metropol and the kindness shown by the staff and management. Chris Dell😮
We're lucky to have this. Hawkins shows that players never have to leave chord changes to play fresh music- that harmonic structure isn't exhausted for improvisation. An important video.
A legendary performance - and Norwegian Jazz History at its best!!
6000 views of- a masterpiece. 😢😢. Painful. Ty Hawk. Beautiful 🌸💯
Excellent audio.
Fantastic!
What a treat!!
Enjoy the show!
Coleman is great but that pianist is terrific great pair
Must have been hard to play drums behind this virtuoso performance. Got to have an internal cesium clock.
One of Sonny Rollins’ top five picks of all time from the Hawk.
