Man I hope you live a long life, closest I got to Bud Powell was by way of his protégé Walter Bishop Jr. He told me when he was 17 he had a Bud Powell album and copied it note for note and stated hanging out with Bud, Bird, Miles, Monk and others at Milton's club in Harlem, it's hard to believe all these cats are gone now.
Amazing! Do you know why nordic countries and Germany were the only people to record them so much? Dolphy, Mingus, many of them great tours in Europe and specifically the fact that they were video recorded. Any idea why?
@@erickricardoflores8472 America had no idea what they had produced, the importance and greatness of it, and still don't, by and large...The French, Scandinavians, Germans etc. heard artists such as Bud and Bird, got it, and instantly and correctly equated it to the great music their own countries and composers had produced over the centuries...
Bud Powell lived in Copenhagen for a while. At the time of this take bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen was just 15 ys old, to turn 16 on May 27th. Btw the drummer's first name is Jørn (Elniff).
He was definitely having an on-night here, which was not always the case by this point in his life. Bud suffered from mental illness stemming from brutal NYPD police beatings with billy-clubs to his head and subsequent involuntary and inhumane electro-shock 'treatment' at forced hospital stays in the USA in the late '40's/early '50's, prior to his relocating to Europe, and really never recovered.
Pure cinema, magnificent camerawork. Powell, tho well tempered, suicidally virtuoso. Unfortunately 'Round About' 7:00 the whole thing becomes suitable case for treatment
Those were the days. I were there, and I Will never forget that evening.🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
That makes you a Legend

The first number is stellar. Thank You.
Special genius in his phrasing
Opening song is; Anthropology, followed by Round Midnight.
To think that NHOP is 15 here...Kinda depressing but also really inspiring

Won't be another like Bud for at least 100 more years.
there will never be another bud powell.
Lots of pianists can play like that. He was the original tho.
@@clintjones9848 Once you've had the original, there is no other
Luciano invernizzi, I was there❤
指が以外に短い、それでもこの演奏、素晴らしい、独特の気品、バップフレーズの炸裂、それがまた良い❗️😾❗️🎵🤓
In an era of jazz greats, Bud was a giant.
WONDERFUL
このperformansでのBudはかなり体調が良いみたいですね。この時期にしては。
The lick he played at 9:37 was sweet
This fellow is pretty good.

Wow!
round midnite seems to be spoiled by some sort of warbling in the sdtrck?
what does it sound like that? like a change in pitch on the piano solo
It's just the tape warble from an old recording
