Love this. I’m 42 and have been playing for 30 years. There are so many amazing drummers out there that you forget how cool it is just to be able to play a simple beat. This reminds me that some people get it and some don’t. Drummers unite and appreciate yourselves and each other!!!

I've played guitar my whole life and have never understood drummers, y'all have a different ability. Like if I try to sing while playing I begin to play off, can't focus on two things at once. How y'all can kick the bass while hitting the snare and high-hat without getting confused blows me away 🙏😮‍💨

Hey, You are 42 ? I'm 42 also and always wanted to play drums and finally I decided to star this month and now I'm able to play 8 notes beats and do things that i didn't had the idea I could do. Well said! Especially nowadays that on TH-cam you can find amazing drummers it seems like we are nothing compared to them. I have started in my 30thies, I m 40 years old now and I've learned how to play something, I can comfortably play songs like Enter Sandman or Crazy Train by Ozzy.
Still most of times I don't define myself as drummer because I struggle with loads of rudiments, however as you've said this video makes you understand how much you've progressed

Watching the gears turn is enjoyable. Such a simple beat looks and sounds so easy, but the ability to separate your limbs is the challenge. The rub your head pat your stomach thing.

    • @BaconIsNotBiceps
      @BaconIsNotBiceps ปีที่แล้ว +24

And this was as basic as it gets. Pro drummers can get each limb doing completely different things. It's amazing what some like Weckl, Donati, Vinnie, etc can do. It boggles the mind.

      Agree with you guys here.
I had about 2 years worth of learning and playing the electronic organ, and some years later in high school the teacher in the music class was having us try all the different instruments. I was surprised to find that my previous experience with the electronic organ had trained my brain to be able to play the simple beats but nothing complex.
I am always amazed at how excellent drummers make all things look so easy and simple.

I think people who can play drums, even just the basics, take for granted just how much coordination it takes. It's a lot more complicated than it looks. I've been playing on and off since I was a kid, and I'm mostly self-taught. I have dyspraxia (developmental coordination disorder), and it took me so long to pick it up as my brain couldn't isolate all of the separate parts. Drumming has been great for my coordination, even though it takes me a bit longer than some people to learn beats.

I finally got it. If you have coordination/cogitative issues, pause the video at 0:51 and set the video Playback Speed to .25. Go grab some silverware from you kitchen as your drumsticks and keep replaying it in slo-mo over and over again once you have the beat in your head. I recommend starting with the right hand and getting that tempo down first. Then work in the foot. Once you have those two beats down consistently, introduce the left hand because I feel that is the hardest.

This really looks so fun and gives me a newfound appreciation for percussionists, it definitely must be harder than it looks.
This really makes me wish I could learn to play! I took piano, viola, and guitar as a kid but never stuck with it because my parents let me quit for some reason. I really wish I would have stuck with learning an instrument. Playing drums sounds so cool but I wouldn't be able to do that at home with my current living situation, since they're so loud and also need a lot of space. And I bet it costs a lot too since they're so big and so many add-on parts.
Thanks for inspiring my musical interests though! Really makes me consider picking up an instrument again.

These days, we're lucky because there are so many options for quiet (or even silent) practice on the market. Lots of compact options, too. They aren't all cheap, but some are fairly inexpensive. And, of course, the most economical option - a practice pad - takes up almost no space at all, so it's a win/win!
If you have an interest in giving drums a try, you can find an option that will work for you! 👍🥁

Thanks for watching and commenting! No pressure but we made 30-Day Drummer with Domino for people in your situation. It's an easy way to get started drumming with even just a practice pad and sticks (you can get a full bundle plus the lessons for $117 right now).
No worries if it's not the right time for you, but you can take a look at the course here: www.Drumeo.com/30-Day-Drummer/

I am super shy with my playing while I am actually good and I hate when strangers talk to me on the streets but if I see a drum kit…
I would do this right away and would not lie. Then I would play something like the halftime shuffle from Rosanna like this guy did or a very fast punk beat as there was no double bass option 😂

I've taught rank beginners on drum set..surprising how difficult it can be for someone who never held a pair of drumsticks or played on a drum set to play a simple rock beat I go back to it playing to a metronome to keep myself grounded and remind myself of where I started.

Start with just the hi-hat to establish your rhythm. Then add either one of the drums, then the other. Keep that hi-hat tap going, though. You can practice just tapping on a table. Use two different parts of the hand; one sharp, like a knuckle or fingertip, and a softer, thud sound, like the palm for the bass.
