honestly i cant tell the difference from what type of editing you do the only thing i recognize is your reaction which makes it great so its still all the same to me
I always hated Iceman when I was a kid because he was set up to be the villain, but it wasn’t until I got older that I realized he was actually trying to help Maverick. Sure there was some trash talking and egos mixed in there, but he was the most disciplined and responsible pilot, and he tried to make Maverick better. He really deserved to win Top Gun.
I assumed that too, but one scene ruins it a bit. The scene where Ice refuses to move out of the way and let Maverick take a shot, when Maverick had the better angle. In that scene, Ice was thinking more about scoring points, than completing the mission. So I don't think Ice was trying to help Maverick. He was just finding something to criticise him for, cus he saw Maverick as a threat for the trophy. The trophy wasn't the point of the movie. It was just a device in both characters' story arc to create a rivalry they could overcome when the situation became real
@@TheJoshuaPimentel do you think the earth is flat? Or are you one of those conspiracy theorists? The jet wash flaw was something that could happen to the F14 and it did happen a lot more than you think
13:23 The 'old guy' she's with is Rear Admiral Pete Pettigrew, the REAL 'Viper' and technical advisor for the movie. In the Vietnam War, he and his wingman came under attack from 4 MiGs whilst low on fuel. 90 SECONDS later, two MiG's were down, with Pete bagging one, and the remaining two saw enough, broke contact and ran.
My family is great friends with Pete. My dad flew with Pete at Miramar. He introduced my mom to my dad. We used to housesit for them in La Jolla during the summers back in early 80's. They would go on vacation and we would go down and watch their house and enjoy San Diego. During college, I would stop by their house. They had several scripts from the movie. Tom and Val used to stop by for lunch and listen to stories and get better familiar with pilot life. Pete was there at Miramar for my father's funeral. Military honors and everything. Pete and his family are the greatest people on earth.
Mr. Video, In the story line, Maverick's dad dies in Viet Nam. That means his mom was a single parent, at least for a while. If she never remarried, and died after he was an adult, the possibility exists that he simply didn't have anyone left. This story line aside, the level of sacrifice embraced by our real-life military men and women is astonishing. Remember that we're all on the same team. Pray for them. Donate to Toys for Tots to help the Marines. Volunteer at a VA (Veteran's Affairs) retirement home.
Hey Leo, when I was in highschool I was part of a NJROTC program. I was taught by 2 retired service members, Captain Owsley and Chief Buncab. The Chief actually trained a Top Gun pilot that later went on to become an instructor for the Blue Angels.
My brother flew F-16's. He had to retire bc he got bad PTSD. He's still dealing with it now. He is now a training instructor for the Air Force with the flight simulator. So he still gets the experience of flying planes, but not actually up in the air. After this experience I totally understand how Cougar was feeling.... That anxiety can kick in at the worst time! Not safe!
I haven't even started the vid yet I just want to say I APPRECIATE YOU. I been riding with you for about a year now and love your reactions. IM SO PROUD OF MYSELF!!! 🎉
1. An old shipmate of mine was onboard the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood (not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot. (Besides Navy recruitment).
It's great watching this young green horn's reaction on naval aviation and 1980s film. I had the same feelings when I first saw this film when I was a kid. Top Gun never gets old. Watched it at least once a year. Top Gun:Maverick will give you different vibes, but unforgettable none the less. ✈⚓🇺🇸
"We're gonna slow down. He'll go right by us like a cartoon!" "We're gonna go inverted 2 feet from their canopy! They'll just let us!" This is some silly shit.
Just a bit of information about Val Kilmer who played Iceman. Several years ago he got cancer in his trachea & had to have a permanent tracheostomy. Tom Cruise REALLY wanted Val Kilmer to be included in the 2nd movie, but Val is difficult to understand due to the trach. They found a way to work it out with some great technology, & so he is indeed included in the sequel. They actually included his cancer diagnosis in the movie as well. I hope you check out TopGun Maverick, because it's excellent!
I ran a restaurant and bar in Pensacola Florida for 5 years in the 1980's. And when this movie came out. Navy pilots rate each other by carrier landings and night carrier landings. They love to give each other crap. But are some of the nicest people I've ever met.
Great reaction to a great movie, that was fun. I literally was one of the only women there and not only did I get a lot of drinks paid for they also did the whole You've lost that loving feeling bit to me. Definitely didn't hate it and I gotta say you Americans have some pretty hot marines, clicked with one particular guy and we hung out together for the whole summer while he was here. And when he went back to his base in Cherry point, North Carolina I went down for a week to visit him. Great guy and were still good friends to this day almost 25 years later. 😊😊😊
I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid, even went as Maverick for Halloween. But it also completely blind sided me. First movie to ever make me cry. Lets see if he notices Andy Dufresne, before he went to Shawshank 👀
I just subscribed based on this review and editing job. Perfect amount of editing and commentary. I like that you don’t talk just to talk, and you really watch the movie and pay attention to all the important dialogue, unlike some other reactioners who are more concerned with playing up their commentator role and miss key dialogue. Excellent review!

When you learn how to ace pilot fly in GTA or play ANY dog-fighting/air combat game and you'll understand why jet fighter piloting is so fun. It's like a rollercoaster ride once you master it. In GTA online after Top Gun Maverick game out, SOOO many dog fights above the city of Los Santos lol. Yay!! This movie still gives me anxiety during the flying scenes, even the practice flights lol 🥰🤘🤘 Watching Top Gun with Mr. V, the Top Gun of TH-cam!!!
To explain the hard deck for those who may not be familiar with the term. It is a set altitude representing ground level. By going below the hard deck "Mavrick" in simulation drove that 14 nose down into the dirt. As die hard 2 demonstrated any plane that does something like that is not going to hold up well. "Jester" as an instructor was allowed to go below the hard deck to reestablish the position of both aircraft to avoid a midair. Once that was done, he could continue the exercise and climb above the 10,000 foot marker or call the exercise off and have both aircraft RTB.
Hey Mr. V. Exciting fun film, good for kickin' up the anxiety and vertigo, lol. Love Goose, so heart tugging. Thanx so much darlin' take care and have an amazing rest of ur day. Peace

I've said this since this first time I watched this movie in the 80's. Viper should have flown with Mav one the mission. Holy shit that would have been awesome.
Just FYI. A Bogey is an unknown contact. Once you know that the contact is an enemy, it is no longer a Bogey. Now it is a Bandit. One of the many things that they got wrong in the movie.

This was a great reaction Al!! 😂 You make me laugh. Great movie selection. Keep up the good work Leo ❤
Gotta watch the sequel next. It’s amazing
Pburg checking in. Good to see you mr video.
I've said this since this first time I watched this movie in the 80's. Viper should have flown with Mav one the mission. Holy shit that would have been awesome.
The new Maverick Top Gun II movie feels a lot like this one. it's a fun time.
Just FYI. A Bogey is an unknown contact. Once you know that the contact is an enemy, it is no longer a Bogey. Now it is a Bandit. One of the many things that they got wrong in the movie.
Another brilliant movie from this era you should check out is *Scarface*
