Last year I travelled from Vancouver to Halifax by Via Rail train with a Tern folding bike to explore the cities. I can't imagine traveling without my bike.
I am sure the rain didn't make it fun but it was exciting to watch. I have done Brompton days in Ottawa and Quebec City (weather was spectacular) and I brought my Abus Bordo folding lock because sometimes the Brompton is just too heavy to carry around. I am glad you showed the reality of Brompton and big cities. Great video!
Exactly! Had I maybe gone on a patio or library I would have probably brought the bike in but then again… the rain so no patio and I also want to be courteous and not get floors dirty or soaking wet. I’ll revisit doing a brompton video in the future!
Last time I went to Montreal on VIA Rail with my Brompton, I didn’t even pack the bike and they were fine with it. The station in Ottawa is really easy to get to by bike so I rode in with just my borough bag, folded the bike and rolled it on to the train. The folded bike even fit nicely in the dead space between the back-to-back seats so I did not lose sight of it during the entire trip. I usually try and score discounted business class tickets by buying a few weeks in advance, the meals and drinks are actually pretty good. You should do a similar trip to the National Capital :)
Awesome. I got my Brompton from Curbside, and it has seen a lot of use. I’ve cycled in all of Canada’s major cities, and in my (biased) opinion Ottawa has the best scenic pathways. The city is also making steady progress on implementing segregated bike infrastructure across the urban areas. If you like beer, there are quite a few microbreweries you could string together in a bike tour :) Let us know when you plan to come up!
Hello, I loved the video, I loved the images, I loved how you described the city of Montreal, I liked the images and the entire route that you have chosen to make the video, I have already subscribed to your channel, I will see all your publications and your trips, greetings😊👍👏🚴♂️ (I also have my Electric Brompton and I enjoy using it on my trips).
Fun video! Your footage looks great, despite the rain. :) I gotta ask though, your pronunciation of "MONtreal" is kind of wild (we won't talk about the French!) but where do you hail from? I was going to guess Americuh. In fact I recall you had mentioned that at some point in the past, so I'm settling on that!
Good video, Kevin. Certainly unfortunate the weather wasn’t accommodating. 3 days of that would be a tough slog. I’m an Anglo Torontonian who is ( shamefully) not fluent in French. (……..not suggesting you should be ashamed; by the way) but I was nonetheless entertained and charmed by some of your pronunciation of the French locations. Old Montreal is indeed a mixed bag, nonetheless there are some VERY good restaurants there. Your clip whets my appetite to cycle in Montreal with my (Curbside Cycle purchased ) Brompton P Line Electric. The hills that punished you would have melted away on an electric Brompton. Good luck on your next production. May I suggest a channel called Brompton Traveller. His productions are extremely enjoyable and perhaps ‘the benchmark’ in cycling clips. Oh……and check out the weather app, too!
Tough with this time of year and also having to book tickets in advance with via for best pricing.. was fun and good company nonetheless! I’m an American and I won’t hide the fact I don’t know a lick of French. I definitely wanted to put in some effort of pronunciation but hey.. doing this all on the fly with AI generated pronunciation videos lol. Glad you enjoyed the video. I’m not 100% on buying a brompton as the only reason I would want one is for travel but I don’t do that enough and I love traveling super light. I’ll have to think about it more. I hope you’re enjoying that brompton electric! Those are fun!
What a LOVELY vlog. Great recommendations (Sophie Sucree, Edmunds .... not orange julep though!) I recently moved away from Montreal and acquired a Brompton to make it easier to get around. This made me so nostalgic and wished to go back with my new C-line. I highly recommend biking along the Lachine canal the next time you are there. It was my daily commute and I miss it dearly having such a blessed start and end to the day. Thank you for the video and reminding me of my home!
This is very true! But with the short stops I took I didnt want to bring in a soaking wet bike. Definitely brought it into the apartment I was renting for the weekend!
I’m their videographer, so no renting for me. However, doesn’t hurt to reach out to their sales staff to see what’s up. I don’t know their day to day operations! Hope that helps.
How much is that Brompton travel bag? Do you have a link where to buy it? Also what do you do if you a flat on your tires during your travel? Are there bike shop that know how to fix a flat tire for a Brompton especially the rear tire? Btw, how much did curbside store for renting a Brompton for your trip?
Hi there! The brompton was given to me to create this video for the weekend by them! I do quite a bit of their video work as well. Currently $375 CAD. curbsidecycle.com/products/brompton-padded-travel-bag?_pos=1&_psq=transit+tr&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Good question! I think most Corridor trains now have the Siemens Venture train sets so it might be very different! But generally at one end of the cars there’s a space to leave your luggage and or folding bike.

VIA rail: let's make taking the train as inconvenient as flying!
I can't say enough bad things about North American rail travel. It's almost as if it's intended to be worse than car or air travel. Oh, wait...
Delightful, your video sure is a great way to see Canada. And from a native too.
Love the Brompton trip. Great editing. Good look at the cities too. 🤩👏🏽🚲
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this vid. Bicycle, Food, Town Tour and Rain.
Lovely video
Great trip
i love that you ride, i got a brompton to use with the bus and train. very handy.
It was a pleasure to watch this video. Never been to Montreal and I am glad to have seen it from your perspective.
Very well produced Vlog and I see Brompton. Subscribed!

I really intend to make a trip to Ottawa! Might have to get another video project approved so I can get the Brompton again!

Weighing your bags on a train - an absolute joke!
Welcome to Canada! :(
what a great video Subscribed
ideal car model. Some bikes are really cool though, I love the e-bike
good job! I hope your channel does well.

LOL! yes I am an American living in Canada and since this video I’ve practiced to say MUNtreal instead 😂
Good video, Kevin.

Hahaha that julep juice cured the hangover though!
I can’t wait to go back and will do a summer time follow up for this video!
Around 15:11. The store on left is the HQ of Velo Quebec. The organization that controls cycling in Quebec. Pretty good coffee shop as well
Nice video Kevin. You had a jam packed 4 days
You got that right! Plus the bike messenger event… oooof that took some energy out of me. Can’t wait to do a follow up video in the summer!
Suddently it takes not a lot of money and efforts to build bike lanes. I hope more cities will follow.
2:08…did u use a bungees cord to attached the transit travel bag to the seat post in the rear or the bag has a self cord to clip it to the seat post?
The rear rack that you can get with a brompton comes with bungees!
Locking up in the rain
Bro it takes 15 seconds to fold 😂
This is very true! But with the short stops I took I didnt want to bring in a soaking wet bike. Definitely brought it into the apartment I was renting for the weekend!
Very helpful video. I may bring my Brompton to Montreal and Toronto next time...😊
Does curbside let you rent out the brompton to try it out ? Or was it just for the video?
I’m their videographer, so no renting for me. However, doesn’t hurt to reach out to their sales staff to see what’s up. I don’t know their day to day operations! Hope that helps.

Ah and flats… ya if I had gotten one I would have had to go to a bike shop in Montreal. I don’t have any recommendations as I didn’t visit any.
Look up Dumoulin Bicyclettes in Montreal
I 'm still not sold on 16" wheels...
What type of seat post is that? Looks like you were able to easily remove part of it?
Thats bromptons extended seat post! Not sure if they have updated it to have a locking mechanism but thats it!
How store the bike in the train?
Good question! I think most Corridor trains now have the Siemens Venture train sets so it might be very different! But generally at one end of the cars there’s a space to leave your luggage and or folding bike.
Vieux (French for 'old') is pronunced "vee - er"
Thank you! Definitely going to be working on my pronunciation for the next Quebec video!
A weight limit on a train ride? lol?
One of many unique Canadian things!
