Hey, very helpful video! I just had to replace these same microswitches. Would have been extremely difficult without your video. Thank you very much!!

Thanks I have the same issue, will check the hook latch first, before taking my iron tablets .looks like you had two seperate issues , great idea to solder the wires doing away with the corroding connectors.

My 981 top has the same symptoms and is going into the dealer next month. Hope they can fix it with just the mechanism and microswitches at the windshield hook assembly. But, thanks for the detailed presentation.

That was a real PITA and glad I have a 2010 Cayman S coupe. I think if that I wanted a cabriolet it would have to be the 987.2 Spyder or put a tonneau cover on it 😎.

Good Vid - thanks. Would've liked to see more on the disassemble part, taking everything down to get to the microswitches. The re-assemble helped, but still missed a bit.

At 10:58, it looks like the whole mech is lifted up out of the car - this is the part that would help - how did you get it to this point?

thank you , on this project I diagnosing this issue while I was filming so it was hard to focus on the two tasks at the same time, but thank you for the advice ill ty to use it for my next videos.

@@ThatLigarage question - did you ever have to put the top motors in manual mode (that adjusting bolt that "clicks" when you tighten it behind each seat) - if so when?

@@lloydc872 I did but I'm not sure if i filmed that part, I figured it was simple but next time I work on one of these issues ill post it.

So to be clear - you didn't actually have to replace the back microswitches? This whole job could have been done by fixing the front microswitch by the latch?

have same issue..very helpful..ty..did you end up replacing anything in the latch or just reposition the micro sensors/switches there?praying I dont have to do the microsensors at the rear operating mechanism

    • @ThatLigarage

no i took it all apart to find out what's truly wrong with it and to show you guys all the components incase you have an issue with a car your working on thanks for the comment

@@ThatLigarage no I get that you had to fix the wire connection, but the actual problem was the latch switch mechanism, right? Just trying to figure out what I should look at first.

    • @ThatLigarage

@@christopherb8219 it was the micro switch in the latch mechanism, the latch part worked fine.

I have a 2013 Boxter and the dealership replaced the latch micrositch that you said fixed the issue in the video. My top originally would stop halfway and you would have to hit the button again to finish opening or closing it. It eventually failed in the down position and said it Was not in the lock position. It did not go up or down from there and we took it to the dealer. They replaced the switch. However, its still stops halfway now And then we have to hit the button again. Could the left and right pillar microswitches be causing the issue or do think the latch with the microwave switch in the top that you replaced could still be the problem.

    • @ThatLigarage
      @ThatLigarage  ปีที่แล้ว

It was a while since I filmed this episode so forgive me if I’m wrong but I believe the switch my the latch detects the position the latch is in so it dosent crash in to the window pillar. If that switch is bad it will hold it back from closing all the way

Hi wsmith. Just wondering what was the fix because my car is doing the same thing . Roof opens and closes but stops halfway and have to hit the open or close button again to complete the cycle

Less techno music over dialog, and a bit steadier camerawork would be nice. Nice fix BTW.

I just encountered the same problem. 2013 Boxster. The roof stopes, when I hit the close button it will close. From your video it appears it has the same problem. Because it’s in the latch module. Do I have to put the top in service mode? Can I just open the top half way take the latch assembly off and inspect the modules? Without tearing the whole thing apart?
