    Wow, superb video !!
    I have a 981 boxster GTS in white, and i use not to like the rear of this car (i love all the rest lol). I found it too flat or too round, just to "simple".
    This rear ducktail makes all the difference, and just wow, i love it now. This design is just perfect to my eyes, it really looks like a Spyder which i really love. With some of the angles, i sometimes see the sypder with its 2 bubles behind the driver and passenger's head lol
    This is gonna make my car just look perfect !!
    The price is quite high, 708€ here in France at Porsche (unpainted) + the brackets, but ill do it !

    Did you notice any instability at high speeds? At 100mph, 120, 150? Whats the effect - do you feel more downforce than before ? I'm thinking about getting this but I want this to be functional and don't want to sacrifice stability.

    • @TDS981
      @TDS981  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no concerns whatsoever, remember that it is an OEM Porsche 981 part and not a dodgy copy moulded with a different shape. it's tried and tested and I note absolutely no difference in the way it drives. When Porsche designed and tested the Spyder it was an essentially an ordinary 981 with a ducktail and a 3.8 in the back. The humps were added for aesthetics and for the roof mechanism.

    Love it! Looks great! Would love to see you add the Spyder front bumper/spoiler/splitter to balance it out more. I actually think Porsche should have an option to add both spoilers to the regular S or GTS because as lovely as a Spyder is, that top is ghastly. This would create a nice car that's in between the two. I know that would probably make the Spyder seem less special but it would allow for a more aggressive look for those who would prefer that with a top that actually works everyday. For instance, I would love to have the new 718 GTS 4.0 with the Spyder front spoiler and ducktail rear spoiler and still basically have the same performance but with a top that works.

    • @TDS981
      @TDS981  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Trey, yes I would like the Spyder front end too or even a nice little lip for the front. Appreciate the suggestion 👍
      I think you are bang on about offering this as an option, I think it should have been included with the GTS to give it that special something. I love the Spyder very keen perhaps to buy one some day but then when my roof is down it's down and can leave it in the garage like that too.

    • @TDS981
      @TDS981  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since this doesn't have any real aero advantages I don't think it applies but if you installed the GT4 picnic wing then that's another story!

      Probably the duck tail will provide a lot more of down force, than the original.
      From a supplier in US, it states to be used under your own risk. Specially at high speed. It recommends to install the front spoiler kit. I don't know if is it based on aerodynamics or just trying to sell the complete rear and front kits.

    Great work. Looks fantastic, including the re-positioned badge. (Now subscribed after finding a number of your very useful videos). I was inspired to investigate changing my 981 Cayman S spoiler for the GT4/Spyder ducktail as the standard spoiler appears to lift at either side after a period of time. This is something commented on a number of forums and OPCs have confirmed to me it's a known 'feature' ! I approached my local OPC to get some idea of costs and was informed the GT4 ducktail is a different part number than the Spyder ducktail although I'm fairly confident they are the same size and both are interchangeable and would fit a Cayman or Boxster. Any views / advice on this ? The 981 GT4 ducktail is nearly £100 more expensive than the 981 Spyder ducktail (probably as it's a GT product?) !!

    • @TDS981
      @TDS981  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve, great to hear and thanks for subscribing. I've had this same conversation in reverse with someone who was looking to buy an aftermarket Cayman ducktail that was less expensive than the OEM Spyder version. I think that we concluded that it was probably worthwhile getting the right one for the car. I bet they are similar but the Cayman has a slightly different rear profile to the Boxster Spyder, the GT4 Ducktail is also fixed. The Spyder version rises just as the OEM spoiler. Have you researched what other Cayman owners have done?
      I was comfortable with the Spyder one because I noted Porsche had done the same thing with the Spyder test car which was based on an ordinary Boxster.

      @stevefry4974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TDS981 thanks for the response. I did research the aftermarket ducktail for the 981 Cayman and there are a few options that appear identical to GT4/Spyder design but would prefer to reduce the risk and probably go OEM if confirmed the GT4 ducktail can be installed and operate without limitation of being fixed as on the GT4 models !

    • @TDS981
      @TDS981  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After all of that I reversed the decision, badge is back on the boot lid where it belongs. I decided I prefer it, with the plate on it didn't look quite right.
      However, if you want to do it, take the measurements of your existing badge and replicate the positioning onto the bumper.
      Starting with the 'S' as the centre point from the top of the letter, following the curve it is 48mm below the bottom line of the reversing light.
      Good luck and thanks for watching!

I've now subscribed to your channel, as I've watched a couple of your other videos, and have been equally impressed bu them as well.
    On a different note, I am interested in doing a similar mod to a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, i.e. changing the OEM 718 spoiler for the ducktail spoiler from the 718 Spyder. Any ideas on how this is done? Are additional brackets required for this? What are the part numbers? How do you find an OEM spoiler from a reputable source (rather than some cheap, low quality, ill-fitting part, from ebay)?!?

    • @TDS981
      @TDS981  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tilum2, thank you for the very kind feedback, it's nice to hear and I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
      I think your idea is a very good one,.it will look awesome and I'm keen to see the pictures when you've done it.
      For me the best place to source the part is from your parts desk at the nearest dealer or if you are lucky you can find a used one. Aftermarket options can be hit and miss so probably not worth the risk.
      I don't have direct experience with the 718 but at a guess you will require 2 brackets and the spoiler itself. It will come primed so you'll need to have it painted as I did.
      A quick search suggests this to be the part number for the 718 Spyder rear spoiler but please do your own research before ordering.
