Veganizm actually it’s mean it exclude spicy thing like pepper onion garlic cause the word J is form the monk extra rule that they will not eat meat and any spicy thing
In addition to the inexpensive "Rice with Tofu" in the frozen section (39 baht) - they have a vegan soup in the chilled cooler that is loaded with mushrooms (30 baht). They also have a variety of packaged rices that you can easily mix with the soup. It's easy to have a great vegan meal at 7/11 in Thailand for less than 100 baht.
Hey im from thailand and the 17 (เจ) that you see it’s come from chinese language which is jay, it’s quite similar with vegan but some smelly vegetable is not allow in jay ex, garlic but vegan can eat all vegetable so vegan can eat all jay staff and actually thai tea and lactasoy band added most sugat but they have some with low sugar those are so delicious and vegan festival in thailand will be in every October around nine days but don’t strict with the date you can observe thai calender and have เทศกาลกินเจ on the date number and also 7-11 have very delicious frozen food especially for khow pad kra pao🌶. And if you go to Phuket at that period most of them will wear white clothes and all side of main road will cover with vegan food that have yellow triangle flag around their street food shop.
the first time I arrived in Bangkok I lived off 711 for a week! The best thing they have there imo is in the freezer section.. it's (tofu) sized frozen meals.. they have noodle and veg ones and even one with noodle and a variety of vegan meats. I ate those a lot :)
Yay! Yes, there's so much good stuff to try! If you get the coconut rice popsicle, I mentioned, be careful, there's a bean one that looks similar but is NOT good hahaha. (My friend got the wrong one recently). So, look at the ingredients, and make sure you get the one with coconut milk and black sticky rice... Happy Travels!
Its a great thing that you are showing Vegan options and also maintaining the over watch of what is healthy and what is not healthy. We Vegans must live as long as possible to end an argument, for all time to come.
17 in yellow label is Thai word means vegetarian food. Be careful about soy milk. Some brands add milk power. You just look for 17 label is the best choice for vegan.
The video was filmed in Chiang Mai. I posted a new video from CM yesterday. If you have any Thailand questions, can you post it on my new Thailand video so I'll be sure I see it?
I'm a Thai. That vegan sign "เจ" has differnt concept with vegan. It's about Chinese-Thai belief. It allow oyster souce. In some menu especially stir-fried menu, just check a little bit before have it.
Noooo! Jay food doesn’t contain any animal products including oyster, the concept of “Oysters are allowed” rooted from the belief that there’s a time when Guanyin buddha traveled across the sea and had nothing to eat so she prayed and then oysters came up from the sea and she ate it. But this idea of eating oysters is considered unacceptable by Jay eaters because there is no evidence to confirm that Oysters are allowed (no worries😄)
I'm so jealous. I'd love to visit Thailand. Its always a pleasure connecting with a fellow vegan TH-camr. Great video, my friend. I'm your new subscriber =)
Yes, I made the mistake of drinking the chocolate 'soya' milk! This is great info. Must dash to my nearest 7/11! Have you tried the Chocolate Dipped Solar Dried Banana treats - in a fancy, brown box. Only 60B and amazing! :)
@@romanlillie You must! And there is a low sugar version of those soya and chocolate tea drinks, it's really good. The other plain one which is not low sugar is a bit weird, but the low sugar one is really nice - more of a rich, vanilla flavour. I tried the Boran coconut cream and sticky rice/black bean icecream! Thanks for making my vegan life even more amazing in Thailand, appreciated :)
Roman Around The World : Yes , it's spelled jay which means vegan. The reason why its look like 17 because the writer wants it to look like chinese letters. My country recieved the vegan festival from china.
Lots of TH-camrs in general are in Thailand. It's beautiful, cheap and has great wifi. That's a winning combo for many people who work online. But that said, I travel around a lot but always like to come back to Thailand.
the raw vegan/ fruitarians have decided thailand is the place to be, low costs, beautiful weather and all the tropical fruit one can dream of :) there are meat eaters who travel to places like thailand strictly for the fruit too
I'm bad about the potato chips too. I need to follow you around and nibble. As a fairly new vegetarian, a lot of these things I've never even heard of, let alone tasted. Taro?
Taro is similar to potato but different family, it has natural steroids in it, so if your a natural body builder, or you just want to be big and solid taro is for you. If you look at the original Hawaiians that is why they are all huge.
Facts: Many assume Buddhists are vegan or vegetarian. while in fact, only a small percentage are. Many assume vegetarian/vegan fare is easily found in Thailand and Asia, when in fact it is extremely difficult to find any vegan, and even more difficult to find WFPB fare aside from a very limited number of trendy/hip eateries catering to Western tourists along with the inflated prices that are typical for such locations catering to tourists. If one wants to follow a vegan or, better, a Whole Food Plant-based regimen sans the refined/processed sugar, salt, fat/oil laden junk, be prepared to cook for yourself. Availing oneself of the wet /open veggie and fruit markets allows one to source a wide variety of very cheap fruit and vegetables. It can be as simple as buying a cheap rice cooker and preparing steamed veggies and rice. But if one expects to find vegetarian/vegan/WFPB street food - I dare say you will starve here - as even if you ask them to omit the visible meat, the broth/stock and sauces all incorporate all sorts of animal and oil-based substances. Sorry folks, but in China and SE Asia, the people (natives), as a rule, are simply not vegetarian or vegan - despite one might think after watching the Kung Fu series!
Very true. Here in Thailand there is a vegetarian festival that lasts for just over a week. And during that time a lot of the Buddhists eat vegan during that time frame but not necessarily the rest of the time. I've certainly had a bit of trouble finding vegan food in more remote areas.
Thank you for mentioning this. I wouldn’t say Thailand 7/11 are necessarily vegan friendly besides in some snacks. They only have one meal for a select amount of time.
even a little bit of margarine i'd throw that product to the pits of hell where it belongs. i'd rather starve to death. i've done a no solid food fast for 3 days before. very well disciplined vegan. xD
I am Thai. For your kind info. That Taro brand snack is made from Dried fish meat and flour. It is notTaro root vegetable. There is surely no Vegan symbol on it. The Chinese style letters on package may confuse you.
As mlkh said Taro brand in Thailand is not vegan. See www.premier-marketing.co.th/en/interbiz-taro Also notice the fish on the package. This is not the root. Sorry for the bad news.
Hi Roman, been enjoying your India travels. You're lovely! For the next time you’re in Thailand, at larger food courts, look out for Chinese-style “vegetarian” stalls which offer an array of dishes served with white or red rice - essentially vegan, no meat, dairy, eggs, alliums. Avoid the dishes that are "mock meats" which are made of gluten or soy. The Thai word for vegan is this, which looks like an open jaw about to chow down on a baguette "เจ" . Not sure if this link on Google Translate will work here translate.google.com/#th/en/%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%88 An APROXIMATE pronounciation is “jae” but the consonant itself doesn’t exist in English - it’s somewhere between a soft “j” and “ch”. You’re likely to be met with blank stares anyway so best to show the word in Thai.
A Pyrhhic victory at best! While they can indeed leave out the larger pieces of meat, almost ALL of the broth and sauces incorporate animal substances, and these are all common to all the dishes and are made in advance. In China, as in Thailand, vegan or While food plant-based dishes are simply not a common occurrence - and the cultural norm is to increasingly incorporate more and more meat into the diet.
Yup, try the refined processed 'vegan' junk food! But hey, you can find processed/refined sugar, salt, fat/oil and chemical laden animal product free junk food - anything but whole food plant based - Oreos, potato chips and Coke in 7-11 as well! LMAO!
Well, this all is neither healthy, nor tasty! Better keep running on regular food. Thailand offers amazing and delicious seafood at non industrial quality but at an very low rate. I cannot miss so much taste! And the seafood comes supplied by small fisher-boats, people just make a good job here to survive! Are they evil?!
That 17 in Thai is เจ which pronounced just like letter J. Mean vegan..
but it means it excludes garlic and onion right?
Veganizm actually it’s mean it exclude spicy thing
like pepper onion garlic cause the word J is form the monk
extra rule that they will not eat meat and any spicy thing

OMG yes!!! I love that festival so much. I've been there twice.
Excellent answer. Kap khun krap Nataporn
Hi ! I’m from Thailand and “Taro” is absolutely not vegan because it is FISH SNACK (read the ingredients list and you’ll notice that)
i second that. Taro isn't actually the Taro plant.
I thought her unusually twisting mouth was the only thing wrong about her,but you gave us clarity. Thank you.
This is so useful! Thank you for posting this :)
the first time I arrived in Bangkok I lived off 711 for a week! The best thing they have there imo is in the freezer section.. it's (tofu) sized frozen meals.. they have noodle and veg ones and even one with noodle and a variety of vegan meats. I ate those a lot :)
Thank you so much! This is very helpful for my trip to Thailand!
So happy to hear this!
Really loving the videos lately! I can really tell you love being healthy! I'm super into health as well!
Yay, Thanks! Yes, I do love being healthy. And it's pretty easy in Thailand, there's so much fruit, and even vegan snacks around.
That's amazing! I can see! I'm going to Thailand in about a month! This really helped me!
Yay! Yes, there's so much good stuff to try! If you get the coconut rice popsicle, I mentioned, be careful, there's a bean one that looks similar but is NOT good hahaha. Yes it's the life in our days too not just days in our life
The letter that says "17" is actually the Thai language that says "vegetarian" or vegetarian food, not the number 17 as you understand it.
love the video! thinking about moving to thailand within the next year and all i can say is I'm so excited
Oh yay. Yes, Thailand is pretty great.
they dont sell these anymore
They do!!😂😂
The yellow bag with the fish on it is made with fish protein isn't it?
I don't recall the exact contents. But I just look out for the vegan symbol that looks like "17" because then it won't have any fish or meat in it.
Don't buy the Taro stuff as it's actually fish meat ☺️ but I agree with the rest of the video... Basically addicted to that ice cream as well!
Super helpful x
Awesome video! Good to know that I won't have to starve if I travel to Thailand
Wow really cool stuff. I am definitely going to visit Thailand one day, they must love us vegans lol. Great video by the way! 🙂
Yes, there are great vegan options in Thailand. Cheap and delicious. Lots of restaurant options, and fresh fruit on the street...I miss it so much...
The 17 symbol is actually Jay (เจ) in Thai which means vegan like she said. This is awesome.
Yes! There are so many options in Thailand (especially in the major cities).
vegan in thailand is MANSAWILAT, ask that in resturants
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
17 in yellow label is Thai word means vegetarian food. Be careful about soy milk. Some brands add milk power. You just look for 17 label is the best choice for vegan.
Was this in ChangMi? Will you do a Q&A on Thailand if you stay longer?
The video was filmed in Chiang Mai. I posted a new video from CM yesterday. If you have any Thailand questions, can you post it on my new Thailand video so I'll be sure I see it?
I'm a Thai. That vegan sign "เจ" has differnt concept with vegan. It's about Chinese-Thai belief. It allow oyster souce. In some menu especially stir-fried menu, just check a little bit before have it.
Ok, that's great to know! I didn't realize oyster sauce is considered Jay. I'll remember to ask about it :)
Noooo! Jay food doesn’t contain any animal products including oyster, the concept of “Oysters are allowed” rooted from the belief that there’s a time when Guanyin buddha traveled across the sea and had nothing to eat so she prayed and then oysters came up from the sea and she ate it. Welcome to Thailand ครับ
I'm so jealous. I'd love to visit Thailand. Its always a pleasure connecting with a fellow vegan TH-camr. Great video, my friend. I'm your new subscriber =)
Nowadays 7-eleven has frozen vegan food name “Stir-fried basil vegetarian protein with rice”. It’s เจ (17) (Jay) (Vegan). It’s spicy and yummy 😋
Some of the frozen food are also vegan!! They have very good vegan krapao ^ ^
I'm surprised that they don't follow you around the store And say Hurry up and buy! 😂😂
Your skin is amazing !
Hey, are you sure that the products containing margarine are vegan? Margarine often contains milk derivatives or animal fat, especially here in Asia🤔
It's always good to double check. the Jay symbol that looks like the "17" is a good guide when in doubt. Those for sure shouldn't have milk.
Yes, I made the mistake of drinking the chocolate 'soya' milk! This is great info. Must dash to my nearest 7/11! Have you tried the Chocolate Dipped Solar Dried Banana treats - in a fancy, brown box. Only 60B and amazing! :)
Oooh that sounds so good! I haven't tried those, but I will next time!

Final thought!137 Degrees (that's the name) almond milk (slightly sweetened one), favourite plant milk ever, and I have tried a lot!
Yes! That brand has sooo many different nut milks. Even pistachio!
What you called 17 symbol it's really the yellow flag with Thai letters written vegan. It is the vegan season time in Thailand.
Yes! I always look out for that. To me it looks like 17. Do those letters spell "Jay"? I might be misspelling it.
Roman Around The World : Yes , it's spelled jay which means vegan. The reason why its look like 17 because the writer wants it to look like chinese letters. My country recieved the vegan festival from china.
PoL Lee how do you pronounce it because I’ve heard people say ginjay
@Beautiful Boy, Gin Jay means "eat vegetarian/vegan" from what I've just learned.
It seems like most vegan TH-camrs live in Thailand!!! Is there. Reason for that?! I’m just wondering
Lots of TH-camrs in general are in Thailand. It's beautiful, cheap and has great wifi. That's a winning combo for many people who work online. But that said, I travel around a lot but always like to come back to Thailand.

Kra prow Jay with rice. The best

Oh dear, I don’t think “Taro” is vegan. It’s a snack made of fish. Tell me if I’m wrong.
Taro is actually a root. It's a bit like a potato. Maybe the fish you're thinking of has a similar name?
Roman Around The World yes
I am Thai. For your kind info. That Taro brand snack is made from Dried fish meat and flour. It is notTaro root vegetable. There is surely no Vegan symbol on it. The Chinese style letters on package may confuse you.

i think the 17 means “jee” which in thai means vegan!
That’s true 7 eleven in Thailand is the best.
Thanks for the Vegan video
Oh wow! 2 things I'm going to buy right now:
1) dat Vegan Thai Tea
2) Try the vegan ramen
Ankur Jalota haha yay. You'll have to reply w your review! And try the coconut milk sticky rice popcicle while you're there lol. It's so good!!!
Yup, try the refined processed 'vegan' junk food! But hey, you can find processed/refined sugar, salt, fat/oil and chemical laden animal product free junk food - anything but whole food plant based - Oreos, potato chips and Coke in 7-11 as well! LMAO!
The 17 thing, it’s pronounced J and it means VEGAN
That's what she said in the end of the video
Hello
VEGAN4EVA !!
Taro hahaha , its dried squid
Well, this all is neither healthy, nor tasty! Better keep running on regular food. Thailand offers amazing and delicious seafood at non industrial quality but at an very low rate. Thanks! The humidity in Thailand agrees with me and makes my skin feel really healthy.
