There are two classes of express trains. The fastest G trains: Shanghai - Hangzhou, 45 minutes, 2nd class ticket RMB73, 1st class RMB117. Beijing - Shanghai, 4 hours 48 minutes, 2nd class ticket RMB553, 1st class, RMB933. The slower D trains: Shanghai - Hangzhou: 1 hour 2 minutes, 2nd class ticket RMB46.5, 1st class RMB56 Beijing - Shanghai: 8 hours 50 minutes, 2nd class ticket RMB408.
@Cliptravelworld, both the trains you took were still D trains, the top speed of D train is no more than 250km/h. The latest and fastest trains are G trains, which is capable 350km/h and above. The G trains between Shanghai and Hangzhou are the best. The trains used in this route are CRH-380A, which means they are capable to run up to 380km/h in commercial service though it runs top speed at only 355km/h in Shanghai Hangzhou route.
