I love the heat Jan brings to this interview. I know people always expect him to be the calm and humble athlete but he has always been this way. There are a lot of athletes talking about how he got in their head (e.g. Lionel at the first Collins Cup) and when he knew he was fit, he would always tell you that he is not just winning but also breaking the record (e.g. Roth 2016). As long as he doesn't get beaten on what he thinks is his best shape (we all knew he wasn't in best shape for Ibiza), we will have to give him the benefit of the doubt. You can clearly see that Kristian and all the other athletes respect him and therefore take his statements as a serious threat. As for comparing Kristian to his daughter, I think that this is just peak banter and also entertaining for the interview. Let's see how this plays out but I think Jan always gives himself the best chances by starting the competition ahead of the actual race...

Jan is in the winter of his career and you can hardly compare him to Kristian who is in his Spring/summer. Magnus is there, Max and others. Lets relax and enjoy these final competitions with those guys instead of comparing them. A podium for Jan would be huge with 42, not more not less. He is the GOAT. 👍🏼

Its the media that has created this debate about the rivalry. And i think Jan has handled losing a bit of the spotlight poorly. As a German I have seen a lot of interviews with Jan. This day he seems quite aggressive, kinda stressed. Guess he is under a lot of pressure to perform. Not sure if that is the best situation for him. And it's a missed opportunity to have some fun chat with Kristian.

Compare this Jan to the Jan i saw at Roth earlier in the year, commentating and supporting EVERYONE and I think you can realise it's very scripted, two amazing athletes that behind the PTO curtain have the utmost respect for each other as well as their other competitors.
KB LS are going to make JF hurt on the run. I dont mean that struggle hurt but the intense pain of being just on the edge. Im just not convinced that Jan wants to do that anymore. or perhaps not with this race. I think Jan will race smart, stay within his boundaries and save it for Nice.
Wrong, he typically has the faster bike/run of all these athletes. Question for him is how close can he be in the swim and then will him and Blu (or Long) work together to get close on the bike. It will take a massive Magnus like effort to do it. Blu typically drafts the bike which is why is run is better. If he has to do the work then he won’t run faster than Lionel.

Der @PTO Hub: The volume between in the interviews are almost every time very different. In this case Jan Frodeno is louder than the moderator, Christian Blumenfeld is in between. Especially with headphones it is very uncomfortable. The moderator is not loud enough meanwhile Frodeno is to loud.
PTO team you are aware that there is software to do post processing on both video and audio?? The only person with a decent mic was Jan. Can these interviews be a bit more professional in future?!?!

Also the fast swimmers are going to go all out on the bike so there is little chance Blu will catch them on the run. The distance isn’t long enough.

Yes and no. The issue is with the PTO races the swim is longer then a 70.3 and the bike and run are shorter. So poor swimmers are even more neutralised. There’s also a very big pack of great swimmers in this field so with 8 or so out off the front, if they get a decent gap in the swim it’s going to be very hard to pull them back in

Cant see Jan make a top 3. Field is stacked. I reckon only way for him is through experience. The Americans and Europeans have mostly raced seperately this year. This is the first global shake up. I reckon the race will be way more aggressive, and a few blow ups knocking out some contenders. Jan wont have the power to keep in the game, but if many blow up, he might just slip by for a 3rd at best.
