  • Just how much difference is there between watches that cost $1 and watches that cost $1,000,000? And what about the watches in between, $10, $100, $1,000, $10,000 and $100,000?

    I love this video, but in reality the real value of automatic watches appear between the $1000 and $5000 range. But still a clever video and the explanation of the automatic movement and escapement is great.
    Also the explanation of a perpetual calendar was short, sweet and understandable, your doing more for understanding watch movements in this video than I've seen to date. Bravo.

    Last year sometime I ordered a Casio F91W on Ebay, and instantly forgot about it. 4 months ago I decided to find out where the beeping was coming from at 1am every morning. Turned out that it was the F91W......I then forgot about it again until today. Today, I finally unboxed it, and set the time / date etc. Realised within a few minutes that out of my whole watch collection (Currently 17, ranging in value from £18 to about £3K), that the F91W is without ANY doubt, the best 'daily wear; watch that I own. Can take enough of a beating so that I won't break it during a normal day at work. Waterproof enough for a normal day. IF I do break it, no big deal, more accurate than any mechanical that I own. Day / Date display, alarm and chronograph......Got EVERYTHING that I need from a watch! For £18!

    Eeek, the Patek is so cluttered with terrible fonts, and the Tissot is so old fashioned it may as well be a Citizen, and the Rolex looks dull, but it’s the icon of all these timepieces. The Jacob looks like a million dollars. Insane. What would I buy? Maybe a Hamilton at $1000, a Cartier Santos at $10k, and at $100k, maybe a Vacheron, and then have change to buy another Vacheron? Great video.

    I got a Casio F91W back in the 1980s, probably had 5 batteries replaced, still runs and some scratches. Kinda like a Volkswagen Beetle, just keeps on running. Rolex's are useless, I have 2, a gold President and a common Datejust I recently rebuilt from a zip bag of loose parts and smashed case, bezel, part of the crystal and a whole lot of money later, new case, new crystal, new bezel new dial, new hands, 2 jewels and replaced escape wheel, runs like new and both are in locked away in the safe. Wear it? And get a scratch on it? NEVER. But if I had 300 oil wells on the banana plantation I would settle on a Patek Philippe Grand Master Chime. I would like the chimes it makes, then become annoyed at how fast my life is draining away. I wonder if they hold the $31 million value? Speaking of 'wonder', are you going to Geneva tomorrow for Watch & Wonders?

    MB&F outperform Rolex and most companies, and are worthy of their price based on the R&D, assembly, materials and so on. Rolexes are too similar to each other, and are not really different to other marques offering similar styles.

    • @DonLee1980
      @DonLee1980 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rolex are only "worth" their price because people are willing to pay for it. if their 2nd hand market weren't above retail, you think people would line up on a 5 year waiting list? of course MB&F are much better in terms of art and horology. But I'm willing to bet that the Rolex is much more reliable, tough and cheaper to maintain.

    • @alwayspooh1588
      @alwayspooh1588 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DonLee1980 I do not know about the reliable point, but I bet damn sure they are cheaper to maintain! I looked at MB&F in a WoS in London, and my goodness they are on another level, and good luck finding someone who could service them outside of MB&F, and the price they would charge!

    You cannot find a Seiko 5 at the price of 100 dollars. Sorry.
    Right now, in my country (ROmania), the cheapest 37mm Seiko5, the old model with the 7s26, the crown at the 4 o'clock and the abismally horrible bracelet is 120 EUROs, which is about 135 US Dollars.
    There are a few cheap (but reliable) automatics for 100 USD: Orient tri-stars (got two of them, performing like work-horses for 17 years), Pulsar, Lorus and some Invictas, when their discounts are even crazier than the usual...
    But Seiko 5s for 100 bucks... nope.
