I have started Derma Rollering and did research before hand. I have good knowledge or biology, bacteriology and surgical procedures after being an oral surgery auxiliary and have found your video the most informative for people who need to be aware of roller cleaning in what may "seem" to be a fad. The thing is, it does WORK. I would suggest though that sterilisation of the rollers is paramount and true sterilisation, as opposed to disinfection, is virtually impossible at home. Using baby bottle sterilising solution is not the best option as it can oxidise the needles on less expensive rollers (little specks on the needles). White spirit alcohol dehydrates blood products on the roller and causes speckles that cling too. The best way to cleanse rollers is possibly to boil them for a number of minutes, place in a brand new food storage bag once thoroughly dry. Inspect a roller before use every time and if it doesn't look like new, don't use it. Thank you for the most informative video on the net about Derma Rollering X
I've seen research out of Europe that says to wash in soapy water after using and then soak in 70% alcohol (not higher, not lower) for 10 minutes before storing. Then you soak again for 10 minutes in 70% alcohol before using the next time.
kcharbs yeah thats what ive read and on most of the sites ive googled to gather info.. bt ive only read once that just disinfect etc, but that alone cnt disolves the proteins n blood etc which can cause massive infections :/ wash liquid in a plastic container n swish it around without banging it on the sides which cn damage the needles n i u cn swish it min or so just to get those prticles away n then i tend to spray the alcohol stuff over the head n seal in plastic case it came in, and the ten min later i just loosen so theres no moisture trapped in it.. then ill just spray again prior to using, and i tend to make sure there no harsh alcohol disinfctant left and use the boiled kettle water just to rinse off the head before it touches my skin.. bt thought it was common sense with the proteins on skin that cnt be dissolved without hot soapy water .
@@clairehargreaves9744 I read about washing with warm water. Boiling can damage needles, because of the plastic that holds it together. I would use 70% rubbing alcohol and wash with soap before.
Don't laugh that's a very valid idea! People don't realize how filthy their pillowcases are. And you have just opened up all those micro cuts on your face.
Needed this video. Finally someone knowledgeable and educated about the process explaining it in detail, yet simplified also so someone like myself (not a skincare expert) can understand. 🙏🏻 thank you!!
I never got results from mild use, such as in this video. I make deeper impressions with a 2 and use a stamp. But my skin is heavily scarred. I think your aftercare tips are spot on. Makeup within 24 hours of dermarolling/stamping makes your face itch and like it's been burned. The Ordinary products are amazing. Thanks for the info!!
Dermatologists use chlorhexidine antibacterial solution on the face before using the derma roller to avoid serious infections. Dr. Lim's video is worth watching on this subject.
Wonderful thorough video...I sneeze as well when I Nuface and dermaroll on the forehead...as an older woman who has been doing this before most people heard of it..for 15 years...we need the 1.0 to stimulate our collagen and really make a difference in our lines..you knoe collagen creation starts to slow down in ones 30's..any woman over 40 needs the 1.0 if she is seeing the signs of aging on the face..yes the .02/3 is fine for serm on us as well..but the longer needle is needed every 4to 6 weeks...I use a numbing cream and I do not PRESS the 1.0..I use light pressure and roll..just thought I would share if you have older subscribers!!
Tried it today.... finally! I was terrified to try derma rolling at home but after going step by step with your tutorial I DID IT!! it was easy and painless Thank you again!

Just bought the dermaroller from Gin Amber. I have been spending an absolute fortune recently to keep my skin looking good (I just turned 40). Here's hoping this will be a new cost effective way of treating myself at home. The information in the video is very useful for someone who has never even considered this treatment before. Thanks!!
I have just bought a derma roller and looked at 3-4 videos from dermacologists for information and then found your channel and have to say I got all the information I needed here. Thank you
You're the first person i've seen lifting the roller when going over an area multiple times. Others don't seem to realise you are going through the exact same holes if you don't.
This is the next step in my I will be embarking on in my skin care journey. C: I finally got to a place where my routine has effectively kept acne at bay (and it effectively manages my oiliness too), and now I want to treat the pitted scars that I have had for the last ten years since my acne breakouts were so persistent in my teenage years. :( So thank you for this guide
I've researched and researched for instructions for dermarolling and couldn't find anything that provided as much detail as you did. Thank you for such a thorough and informative video. I can't wait to do mine tonight. Thank you!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I echo another comment posted here..... This really was the most descriptive, comprehensive, and informative derma roller tutorial I have viewed yet. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for the derma rolling video....I have seriously slacked off on it but now I will get back to it! I do mine about once a month.....the .5 or .75 gently!!! and then I use hyolauronic and a bit of Marula oil and give myself a no makeup relax day....if I must go out in the Florida sun I always use a high SPF. It made me feel much better to watch you and know that I am doing the right things....including alcohol before and after in my tool. I am also very happy to know that it actually does good things and is not just a fad!!! I love 💕 watching you...wish I had your accent!
So refreshing to have a lovely English accent like Gemma explaining treatments so calmly and to the point. She is a natural beauty and doesn't pretend to be someone she isn't. 💖
I love how detailed this is. My husband uses a dermaroller before then he switched to the Banisher, a dermastamp that targets the problem areas better and avoids the active acne easier. With consistent use of 5 yrs now.. his skin looks great than ever!

I know this is pretty much standard for beauty videos, but it’s deceptive and creates unrealistic expectations for us in real life.

nice to see a woman who looks real--this lady is beautiful and yet has no lip fillers, teeth that are amazing but do not look like perfect dentures. It is discouraging to watch someone who obviously has fantastic skin w/multiple surgical procedures and fat lips--way more real! thank you!
Thanks so much for this video! I’ve seen several on dermarolling and this is by far the most informative and helpful. I’ve been trying it for a while and felt I was seeing some good results but after watching this I see I need to do a few things differently. Also, as one of your other viewers said, it really does wonders for plumping and smoothing lips as well. Please keep bringing us your wonderful videos!
I have been doing microneedling and derma rolling for some time and it has helped. You have covered very important cautious points. I personally use 0.5mm for the scalp and 0.25mm for the face. Beyond that should be done by a dermatologist. Also strict hygiene and sterilization of the device is a must. Never over do this therapy else it will have reverse effects. Do microneedling at night and not during the daytime.
I've tried dermarolling. My needle length was .25. I believe I have a very sensitive skin. It hurt almost everywhere. Especially between my eyebrows, my upper lip and around my nose. I think I might try some numbing cream.
This video has been a revelation. I have never considered abrasion before, but I find your videos make so much sense and this one is so thorough and I am going to try it. I will probably watch this again before I do, but I had to just thank you so much for taking the time to carefully lay out the facts, and show the procedure.
I ordered a Dermaroller yesterday to use on my arms after watching a different TH-camr. It comes with three different heads so yes a 0.5 for the face. I'm so pleased I came across your video, now I feel confident to try on my face too. You're a real gem, a big thank you and I've now subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to watching your other videos xx
Thank you for the advice! The 0.25-0.5 has my skin radiant and smooth. No lines or wrinkles. I’m 50. I can’t find a reason to go any higher at this point, but some comments say that I will not boost collagen unless I do, and that these length of needles are just tickling the skin.. I’m enjoying my results thus far.
she is using british english. To make it even more confusing in the UK they say 'oh' for zero as well and when you use the word 'zero', they look confused for a second or two!
This was SUCH A GREAT VIDEO! I just got a derma roller set and it came with a few different sized rollers all in 0.3 and there is one for under the eyes that is 0.25. I also get freaked out by the thought of doing my under eye area so I’ll also be avoiding that area altogether! I may use it over my lips because I heard you can roll the lips out as well. I have a bunch of serums and direct acids from the ordinary including the two you mentioned here so now I feel 100% prepared to start getting my roll on!! Thanks again for the amazing video!!
Thanks! I bought a dermaroller on a whim. I've tried so many different products searching for the one or the one combination that would help with my hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores and scars. I've only used it twice because I wasn't sure how often I should use it and I honestly didn't know it's purpose. I just thought why the heck not try it lord knows I've tried everything else! So now I know what it's for and how it works and how often to use it. Can't wait to see what happens. Thanks bunches!
Forgive my grammatical errors... it's late... I'm tired... I have CHF... so not kidding and I'm hungry... or just really tired. My mom always told me I was just tired when I decided at 1100 that I wanted a bowl of cereal. Now she's not here to stop me physically but I hear her voice in my head saying you're not hungry you're just tired. Way to go ma! Way to spoil a midnight snack!
I actually tried this doing it with you on the video. I LOVE IT. The video made it so easy to understand and made me fell good doing it at home. I have a question because I am thinking I may be using too much stuff AFTER the procedure. I use The Ordinary - again thanks to your amazing videos - and after doing the dermaroolling, I put on the caffeine 5%, then the buffet mixed with the marine hyaloronic and then the rosehip 110% cold pressed oil. I do not put anything else on, but I am thinking maybe I should not be using the rose hip oil and just the other 3 products. Thanks for any advice. For the first time in 50 years my skin actually looks really nice.
I was really hesitating to make this procedure until I saw your video and be convinced it could be done safely. Since then I always put on your video every time I use derma roller and follow it to the point
I got the .25mm. I have excema and last time I tried dermarolling (10 years ago) I looked like a lobster for way too long. I stopped immediately but thought I'd try it again. I bought white tea cleaning wipes and a green tea pore mask to use before rolling and a soothing cream called one thing for use afterwards. All vegan products. I have no idea if the cream is pore clogging. Guess we will find out. Little worried about sun exposure. Unavoidable for me unfortunately. I work in a very dirty, very hot place as well so lot of concerns really.
So happy with this tutorial! I just ordered a derma roller because I have a bunch of old acne scarring and I'm excited to give it a go. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️🙏
What a amazing and informative Video, I'm clearly late to the party with derma rolling but I have seen such good feedback for ache scarring and I have a lot and have been feeling really down and low about my skin so I have brought one and will start as soon as arrives. Thank you for the clear instructions I can't wait to start. much love. I love your videos so much x
This is SO helpful , thanks for putting this out there .There are so many videos out there about micro-needling which either tell you not to do it at home ( usually from professionals such as aestheticians or dermatologists ) or don't give you enough information to do it safely .
Wanted to say a big thank you for this video, I've tried derma rollering last night for the first time and after watching this video all the way through a few times, I feel I've done it properly and safely : )

Thank you for your video. I'm a 47 year old man who has a bit of acne scarring from my teens. I actually have a consultation tomorrow at a skin clinic so just wanted to do a bit of research first. Very informative and very helpful!
Aghh this made me so jealous, I can't wait for the trerinoin to get rid of the last pimples from the acne so I can start Microneedling again! I seriously saw an improvement in my pitted scars, highly recommend it!
good morning i did just purchase the gin amber beauty dermaroller 0.25. i selected this one from the chart gin amber had on her website. i'm slightly anxious about doing this to my face, and then i thought, holy moly, i used to put baby oil on my face and lay out in the sun last century before sunscreens. this is my birthday present to myself. 74 next week. i will take pics. thank you so much for this video. i use the ordinary and i just ordered the sunscreens you and your mom recommended. you are my holy grail. ;0) thank you again.

Is there anything you would update or change about this? I will say I follow all your safety tips, and I've never had any infection, granuloma, or hyper pigmentation. I really appreciate how comprehensive this is!
Thank you for mentioning the matrixyl. I have had some very strange skin problems causing very unsightly lines around my mouth and cheeks. Really effected my confidence. But I used the ordinary matrixyl and they went in 2 days! I've had this issue for over a year. I've used filler dermal roll, (thought I had damage from side sleeping) nothing helped! It seems I have transepidermal water loss. Which learned about after googling what matrixyl is particularly good at treating. Life changing information. Thank you for indirectly saving me so much anxiety and frustration. I used the matrixyl in combination with c serum. For anyone who has strange uncemetrical lines on their face which come and go, Google transepidermal water loss, hope that might help someone.
I've learnt more about tewl, stop hot showers and all exfoliation. Use products with cermides and products for exema. Also seal these in with vasaline at night and buy a humidifier
I just ordered a dermaroller tonight, and this video just happened to pop into my feed (Big Tech craziness). I've done some research, so I hope I got the right one. It is .25, so that is somewhat concerning given what you said about its effectiveness at .5. I might also need to get others for the eyes and body at some point. Glad I'm not into the expensive ones now. I was wondering how much pressure you use while rolling. I couldn't find that information anywhere. I appreciate any help you can offer, besides the excellent tutorial you gave.
Okay so I know this is an older video but I've never dermarolled before and I REALLY want to make sure I do it properly when I do. It's extremely important to me that I don't mess up. So I'm doing my research FIRST! I love watching your videos, you're always so informative and I appreciate that so much. So I have a couple of questions... For after treatment it sounds like you are saying that simple straight to the point products are best to use. I plan on using pure hyaluronic acid serum and I want to use a gentle but affective moisturizer as I have very dry skin already and you said this will dry the skin a bit so I was curious if you think straight aquaphor would be okay to use? It's noncomodegenic and I use it often on my face already. My other question is about dermarolling the scalp... How often should this be done with the .5 and for how long? I'm wanting to help my hair grow naturally and this seems to be a good procedure to try for many reasons. Thank you so much for your help!
Use a peptide serum along with your hyaluronic acid! Something with Matrixyl etc. I use the Kate Somerville peptide serum, and Snoxin II. Peptides are amazing to use right after microneedling and they don’t burn the skin like retinol or vitamin C, so they’re safe to use after puncturing the skin.
Right Gemma I’ve just ordered this!! I’ll let you know how I get on, I also ordered the dermaplane blades and intend to give that a go as well. Gimme 6 months and I should look about 15 😂😂😂
I have used this for first time , around a week ago, I followed your tutorial to the letter and my skin looks great, bright, soft and even, I love it! I intend to do this once a month, I have been dermaplane every week though so am sure that’s helping, I am also using the ordinary skin care regimen and can honestly say that my skin has never looked or felt better and the cost is a third of what I have bought in the past!! I am definitely a convert. Your tutorial was spot on and easy to use, thanks Gemma 💋
Awesome video! Thanks for discussing the needle lengths. Glad you did a demo, I was only doing one pass but now I see I need to bump that up to several passes.
Heather Foss I ordered a derma older and wished I had just ordered the derma pen. I’ve seems rolled twice with a .25 needle size. I did see the results. Not so much on my smile lines. So I’m excited to try the derma pen. I haven’t received it but it’s on the way. Good luck!

@@clairehargreaves9744 I read about washing with warm water. Boiling can damage needles, because of the plastic that holds it together. I would use 70% rubbing alcohol and wash with soap before.
Other tip: make sure to sleep on a new clean pillowcase if ur doing it before bed.

I've watched a lot of videos on how to do dermarolling the right way... this one was by far the most informative one. Thank you so much!
I always have this video playing whilst I’m doing my dermarolling! It keeps me in check with what I’m doing! Such a great guide.
Same how much pressure do u use?
I did this tonight and realized I was doing everything wrong lol. My first time lol
i use a .75mm roller & use it every 5-6 weeks. i'm not going any higher than that. its helping quite a bit for wrinkles & acne scars.
Dermatologists use chlorhexidine antibacterial solution on the face before using the derma roller to avoid serious infections. Dr. Lim's video is worth watching on this subject.

Yes, my dermatologist said anything below 1mm is just tickling the skin and you would have the best results with this size. 👍

Just bought the dermaroller from Gin Amber. I have been spending an absolute fortune recently to keep my skin looking good (I just turned 40). Here's hoping this will be a new cost effective way of treating myself at home. The information in the video is very useful for someone who has never even considered this treatment before. Thanks!!
This is the best explanatory video I came across.

Thank you so much for the derma rolling video....I have seriously slacked off on it but now I will get back to it! It made me feel much better to watch you and know that I am doing the right things....including alcohol before and after in my tool. I am also very happy to know that it actually does good things and is not just a fad!!! I love 💕 watching you...wish I had your accent!

I love how detailed this is. My husband uses a dermaroller before then he switched to the Banisher, a dermastamp that targets the problem areas better and avoids the active acne easier. With consistent use of 5 yrs now.. his skin looks great than ever!

I bought one today, but after this video will return. Thank you very much. I would have, probably, damage my skin.

My needle length was
.25. I believe I have a very sensitive skin. It hurt almost everywhere. Especially between my eyebrows, my upper lip and around my nose. I think I might try some numbing cream.
Good job on presentation!!! I watched the entire thing, unlike most long videos, you have no boring parts in the video at all...

I've only used it twice because I wasn't sure how often I should use it and I honestly didn't know it's purpose. I just thought why the heck not try it lord knows I've tried everything else! So now I know what it's for and how it works and how often to use it. Can't wait to see what happens. Thanks bunches!

I got the .25mm. I have excema and last time I tried dermarolling (10 years ago) I looked like a lobster for way too long. I stopped immediately but thought I'd try it again.

This is the best video on Derma rolling. Thank you.
I'm inspired to go home and start doing this after my vacation!
